A comparison of three military cold weather jackets; the Slovakian M97, the Czech M95, and the US M65. Looking at the similarities and the differences.

I have a Slovakian jacket. The magazine pockets are good for a plastic water bottle and the large one holds a field book.

As an American, I actually own all three of these jackets (plus a "few" more of others...to my wife's dismay). I've owned three M65's over the past 45 years. Each of these has their own merits, but in an actual real winter usage I'm going with the M65 of these three shown. Right now, I even have the faux fur button in hood ordered and coming for mine soon. Ultimately, as a modification, I'd like to sew sleeve pockets and magazine pocket to an M65, using "Velcro" closures on all; making a "best of the three". Maybe I'll find a doner pair of BDU trousers that I can use for the material to do it. The Czech and Slovak each are made of a unique weave of material compared to what I'm used to with US issue. The Czech is a nice light-weight and pattern for 3 season use without a liner, but I find rolled hoods a pain in the neck. The Slovak jacket looks cool, and camo pattern sort of looks like CCE and M81 had a love child, but that hood down the back for some reason is also irritating compared to the M65.

just curious, why attach a magazine pocket?

Hey man, I served in vz.97 and it's good gear. Those strange loops on the shoulders are used to drag a wounded soldier from the battlefield. The winter liner is very warm, we called it "fake fur". In the night patrol at -20 it was useful. The liner was used in vz.85 and taken over in vz.97. I am also a collector of military surplus and I have several winter liners for vz.97, so if you write me the size of your jacket, I can send you one. Nice video, keep it up. Take care!

I have both M65 and M95 jackets. I wore the M65 when I was on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces 1972-94. With the liner it kept me warm during the winters in Idaho and western Germany. However, the M65 would soak up the rain, reducing it's insulating properties. Not so with my surplus Czech M95. It repels rain much better. It's also much warmer (with the faux fur liner) than the M65 in temperatures below zero F.

That would be an M65 K version class 1. As far as I'm aware, the K version was the last version produced.

Own the Czech M95 jacket with the button in pile liner, warmer than my American M65 with its quilted liner. Don't have a liner for my Slovakian M97

Why don’t the wives understand how great all these jackets are. Not to mention valuable and extremely well made and awesome. I guess they naturally have that flaw not being able to see quality

I've found my issued M-65 in the camo seemed to fade really fast. My old OD M-65 didn't seem to fade a lot at all.

That's interesting. I would have thought they would have been better quality. On saying that, I notice British army MTP stuff seems to fade quickly and that's more modern.

You must tell us about the liner of jacket and about warm capability, not about pocket, pocket magazin. Must show the liner and quality of this and how keep the temperature.

Would love to but, unfortunately, none of the jackets cam with the liner. I do have a reproduction M65 with liner and that worked down to -20 deg C.

I learned nothing of the thermal properties of these jackets. Try materials, lining, weight and layering system. Throw in a British smock and your sorted.

would have liked to have had the liners but a layering system is more modern and the US replaced the M65 with a layering system.
