That's soooo cute, oh my God! I love it. This moment said it all. About their inexperience and lonely life before all this. How they are both children. Hope they truly love each other and wait for Chise to turn 18 before anything serious happens. She's still to young fragile, and independent. I want them to have a happy ending together. I usually hate romance anime so this took me by surprise

In Japan and certain parts of England, where this takes place, 16 is the legal marrying age for a lady. I'm not exactly sure of the time period this takes place, but it was also definitely more common for lady to be wed at 16 about 100-150 years ago. It varies where you are, nowadays.

I'm pretty sure this takes place in modern times judging from Chise's clothing. But the extend lifespan of certain characters might be why the idea of marrying at 16 doesn't seem like a big issue to most of the characters. The only characters that question Chise and Elias' relationship are the ones who are more up to date with modern times.

English dude here, this takes place close to modern age and it is legal to marry at 16 years along with parental consent , since people who turn 16 are considered semi adults

I wish they do the nasty when BOTH of them grow a little more mentally, physical age here is meanless. I wouldn't have problems if Elias and Chise were to do it if Elias wasn't so clueless regarding social relantioships, sexuality and many more things and Chise would had dealt with her depression.

1:00 the English dubbing has him saying he has the fireplace lit but then it shows the fireplace cold. I always wondered why he'd lie about that. I get that he might not be actually fazed by cold and simply want to convey a point but it struck as odd nonetheless. Why deliberately tell a lie. Now that the subtitles say "stove" I have even more questions because a stove implies kitchen, implying it's out of our sight, and so it's fine - no lie and the fireplace is just added drama. But if it's not, then it's either weird or the narrative foreshadows us that something is not quite right with Elias.
