V piesni spievala Lisa Stansfield bývala speváčka skupiny BLUE ZONE, ktorá bola spoluautorkou piesne spoločne s bývalými členmi skupiny Ianom Devaneyom a Andy Morrisom.Ďalšími spoluautormi bol Tim Parry a producenti Matt Black vl.m. Mark Kohn a Jonathan Moore. Skladba pochádzala z albumu WHAT´S THAT NOISE, ktorý bol v UK rebríčku štyri týždne od 29. apríla 1989 a skončila na 20.m.

Mobile phones were very common in the UK in 1989. They were an essential part of rave culture to find the location of "illegal" raves. That's the point of the song. I have a clear memory of listening to this song on the M25 in 1989 when my phone rung.

This is good fun, I must admit. But I must also admit that (if you ask me) it isn't a patch on "Telephone Thing", the Fall's scabrous 1990 mutant-dance-rock single, which they recorded in collaboration with Coldcut, and which is built on the skeleton of this song. "My Telephone" is more fun to dance to; "Telephone Thing" is weirder and wittier. But they're both pretty great.

i had no idea coldcut were even involved in telephone thing until i heard it on an old peel show and he mentoned that. the fall version is certainly a superior song imho!
