I think part of the reason that pyramid schemes work so well is because you have no idea how many people are above you. You just think to yourself, “oh the more i sell this product to others, the more benefits i get”. Which partly makes sense cause even in day to day shopping, if you bring a new customer to a shop where you shop frequently, you feel entitled to a discount for the service you offered. You don’t see how many nodes are above you, and you only see the fact that you’re the center node for these people that you’ve roped in.
