@@thatbants8510 Actually, it IS true - seriously, Google "who owns VAG", and you'll discover that Porsche SE owns 31.2 percent of VAG, which gives it control of 50.7% of the voting rights. Because, while there has never been a "Volkswagen Family", there most certainly has been, and still is, a Porsche family. If you can't even research your points before you hit the "REPLY" button, why do you bother posting ANYTHING? Seriously, all you would have had to have done was perform a simple Google/Yahoo/Bing search, and you wouldn't have wasted both of our time by posting drivel...
@tzarcoal10185 жыл бұрын
@@richardsmart9331 You are right, but not entirely, they own each other vice versa if you will. The car manufacturer Porsche AG is 100% owned by the Volkswagen AG, and the Porsche Holding SE has control over 50.7% of the voting rights, as you already said. BUT the Porsche SE is not the same as the car manufacturer and the Porsche SE, does not have any direct control over Porsche AG. Many managers change companies very frequently.The Porsche SE today is like an Overhead Company of Volkswagen, similar to the Google- Alphabet Situation for example. Even tho on paper Porsche SE owns Volkswagen, in reality Volkswagen was the one to came up on top of ownership conflict of 2009. In the end it was more a merge than a take over by Porsche, because the Board of Porsche SE is now filled with mostly former Volkswagen Executives. Basically it was a conflict between the families Porsche and I could not find any English links, but the description on the German Wikipedia explains it quite well. So your " Porsche owns Volswagen/ Audi just sayin' " does not really reflect the reality.

Other than than, I've had no major problems whatsoever with it, and everything is designed to be easily accessible and replaced on the go, something most other car brands don't really recognize as a thing. Right now it's at ~850k but we're going on a ski trip throughout Europe next month and after that to mount Elbrus in Russia, so we'll probably round it out by spring. We also used it as a delivery vehicle (with the seats and floor carpet removed) for about 10 years, and that's how it got most of its mileage. Still in pretty good shape though, now that we have actual delivery trucks, we use it for family road trips around europe ussia orth Africa\the middle east (not anymore though, things got a little too heated). Anyways, it's still in pretty good shape. I'm honestly surprised at the sturdiness of the engine, maybe we just got uber lucky with our model, maybe it's just that good. The worst part about it right now is the aging steel. Because in my country the roads are salted in the winter (and it hasn't really been kept in a garage for most of its life), the rust is starting to pop up quite a lot under the chassis and the window seals and I have to repaint it basically every spring to keep it from decaying and leaking. It's quite fun though, and car paint is cheap, so I don't mind. :D

Im Russian, but you can't seriously say that Ferdinand Porsche was a monster for following Hitler. Hitler was Germany's leader at the time and it doesn't matter what country you're in, you will be proud to make vehicles for your country. Porsche was a mechanical genius and designed wonderful vehicles, which included cars and engines for military application. He did what he loved and died doing exactly that.

People who talk about the political views of historical figures from Nazi-Germany usually forget or neglect that back then, the political and social views of most people outside of Germany weren't much different. The average citizen outside of Germany was just as nationalistic, racist, antisemitic and fashistoid (in the sense of wanting "strong leadership") as any German. Nobody ever talks about the political opinions and social views of historical figures like some famous American war time general, or some company founder of the time. Retroactively making this a war between "Good" and "Evil" is just silly and atavistic. Fact is, American people didn't protest any more than their German counter parts when government agents came to haul their Japanese neighbors off to the internment camps. Who cared about what was going on in those camps? Would people have made much of a stink if years later they would have gotten the news that their Japanese neighbors wouldn't come back from the camps because they unfortunately died of some disease, or had to be shot in a violent revolt, or something? It was sheer luck that "the best generation" of Americans didn't become reviled "accomplices" in a genocide, as Germans of the time did become. They didn't do any more than the Germans to prevent it. They trusted their government and the media just as much. It is easy to point fingers and feel morally superior over people who lived almost 100 years ago and believed what the media and their government told them. It is embarrassing when we do it, we modern people, who live in the age of the internet and still start wars under false pretenses and let simple propaganda and jingoistic patriotism manipulate us without trouble.

I'm a factory trained Grand Master GM technician and all I drive are 'Dubs.... Always have and always will. Their essence of engineering design and interchangeability of parts along a global vehicle platform is what every other manufacturer strived for, continues to strive for and always comes short of. Admititly, VW corporate are a bunch of cock suckers to deal with regarding any quality and or safety defects but at the end of the day I always have a shit faced grin on me when I strut out to my Passat, turn the key and that little 4 banger turbo charged marvel of engineering perfection comes to life and just purrs..... I open my moon roof, crank some tunes, turn on my AC, set my heated seats to 2, spark up a cigar and just melt into those perfectly engineered seats and enjoy the interior fit and finish and the luxury ride at a bargain basement price and just decompress on my voyage home.

*fun fact:* Volkswagen currywurst is a brand of sausage manufactured by the Volkswagen car maker since 1973. It is manufactured at the company's Wolfsburg plant and sold in restaurants in its six German factories. The currywurst are also sold externally at supermarkets and football stadiums and given away to Volkswagen customers. The sausage is branded as a "Volkswagen Original Part" and has been given the part number *199 398 500 A.* The product has been described as the most produced of any of Volkswagen's parts, some 6.81 million sausages being manufactured in 2018. In many recent years the company has produced more sausages than cars.

Wow!!! As always such a great and well-researched video..! I even learned some new things about the origin of VW under the Nazi-regime. BUT (as a german) I get fed up by phrases like "The shadow of the Nazi-legacy still hangs over his work". No it doesn't!!! We will never know whether he was forced to accept the contract with Hitler or did it on his own to fund his dreams, but that was 84, I repeat, 84 years ago. The brand Volkswagen has developed since and nowadays does nothing (as (I know, unbelievable for some of you Americans) almost the entire german population) have to do with the term "Nazi" (although all over the world are still such people). So it was nice and interesting mentioning that but please think twice before saying things like that :) Have a good one and keep up the great work!!! :D
