Fantastic acting and a great film. It may be far removed from the actual Colditz story, but so was the TV film and previous movies. No Bader, all the German officers speaking English etc etc. Fact is only a few got away, Neale, Lutyens, Reid, Henley, Littledale, plus seven others (well done chaps). Most of the prisoners just did their time waiting for the end of the war.

The one thing that this series is missing is the all the songs the prisoners would sing, not that it needed to be a musical but one or two even shortened versions of them being that music was such a gigantic part of those soldiers lives.

Only 11 minutes into this film and there's such a huge difference between it and the much older BBC tv series I'd been watching until KZbin recommended this. The perspective of these writers is much more challenging to the viewer; it's much less idealistic; much less glorifying of soldiering, and fighting any war, no matter how important and glorious that war may be romanticized to be. There are fewer stereotypes, more conflict, mistakes, feelings that don't resolve quickly or easily! Both products of their times, I realize! Had never even heard of Colditz til it showed up on my little iPhone screen recently, in the fall of 2014! Thanks to all concerned for opening up this amazing part of history for the rest of us!!!! 👍🌟❤️🎆

This is the first time I heard and have seen this version. On its own it isn’t too bad, but is essentially more about a love triangle and wicked acts to poach another man’s sweetheart by any means foul with attempted escapes on the side. Perhaps it is unfair to compare directly with the 1955 version on that basis. I shall have to re watch the 1955 version which I saw many years ago. Thank you for posting.

This is a 21st Century rendition of the famous Colditz escape in WWII. Unfortunately, it feels much too modern and pales by comparison with the 1955 film THE COLDITZ STORY featuring John Mills, Eric Portman and Lionel Jeffries, which is a much tighter and character-driven work. In any event, thanks for posting.

Not quite as good as the original 1970s series of the same name but anything with Tom Hardy in is always gonna be worth watching !
@vincenthuying983 жыл бұрын
In itself this story is kind of interesting, however, compared to the Colditz television series the storyline about the p.o.w.’s, the details of their escape plans, the clear missing out of an escape officer, sbo, etcetera, make the story which is titled after OFlag IV’s nickname a rather thin one. The whole part of the storyline of McGrade falsely conquering Lizzie too obvious and too thick on the thread. It makes watching this movie to the end into a chore, rather than a pleasure. It’s a pity today’s storylines aren’t considered apt enough to awe an audience when no romantic involvement is part of the movie. It leaves the viewer with a kind of aftertaste even this story in itself wouldn’t deserve, weren’t it for the fact that its title refers to a production which can still be considered a significant part of television’s history and has left a more than lasting impression beyond the quality of the product presented here.

Blatant copy of the Titanic, just set somewhere else and in a different time. Titanic didn't need to have the 'romantic' setting between Jack and Rose, and in this film, the guy's name is Jack Rose. Irrelevant love story. I was looking forward to more of the details of the escape attempts and how they were organized and co-ordinated. Glad I got this on KZbin, because I wouldn't have paid for this.

Oh dear, I've just finished watching the original series which was well before my time but was on my list-to-do. My difficulty with this one layes in the perception that acting of the 70-series was astute. The actors profoundly embody strong willed charismatic characters. I will have to park this one for some time. In the first few minutes I can't notice anything special, let alone being close to the source material. Perhaps I could put on some new glasses but for now... nothing seems to come close to the original...

Sort of sorry to cut and paste this but it will lead you to some great TV, and yes the film above is just piffle. For all you that have enjoyed Colditz, please try to see Secret Army. Another Gerard Glaister production, this has Clifford Rose as a deeply menacing Sturmbannführer Ludwig Kessler Bernard Hepton isn't a nice German, in this he is a Belgian who can be very cold and murderous. The escape line kill just as many British aircrew than the Germans, if not more. Just because someone is a lead character doesn't mean they will make it to the next episode. Later pastiched in the comedy series Allo Allo. The premier of 70s WWII dramas. KZbin isn't your friend here, but someone has just posted the first episode (Link not allowed) Lots of episodes on OK Russia. Harder to find are the 70s contemporary series Warship and The Sandbaggers, both created by an EX-RN officer. The Sandbaggers is possibly the greatest ever spy series (yes, including the le Carré ones) and the majority of the action takes place in one of three offices.
