*John King* Are you funny in the head? No film or tv production would allow alcohol to be drunk during takes. Because actors have to be professional, they have to be able to perform. Ever heard of multiple takes? Or do you believe every scene shot on film or video is done in a single take? Drunk actors are unprofessional and that is why they will find they are out of a job. While filming the cannabis scene for "Platoon," the actors did actually smoke weed before shooting began. However, as with any production, they had to do a few retakes. By that time they were no longer stoned but rather feeling unhappy. But still they had to continue.

@@AudieHolland Yes, Simon Williams who played James Bellamy was at a special event for a charity here in England. Fantastic time had, we spent two hours with him talking about his life and career. In a Q and A session, we got to ask him questions, and of course Upstairs Downstairs was the key topic. One young woman asked him if all the food and drink prepared and shown on screen was real. He said it was. He said, the downstairs food in the servants hall was real food and drink brought in to Studio 1 at the Southbank Studios of London Weekend Television including alcohol. He joked that London Weekend Television were stingy as they would never fill a decanter full up of brandy or whisky, but would fill it up 1/3 full, to save money - but did you hear what he said, they filled the decanters with real brandy and whisky. That comes from the mouth of the actor who worked there. What more proof do you need. And if you don't believe me, I suggest you email Simon Williams through his management agency, and ask him, I will provide you with the email address if you want?

I dont knwo if this was a true story for Colditz but unlike the compassionate Commandant here and in the movie "The great Escape" , the Germans would have gone ape shit and rounded everyone up and very stressful and the fact they could pass this off as a suicide seems unlikely although back then they didnt have the science of entry wound angles and residue on the dead germans hand if he fired the gun. today, no way would this be a suicide. If they never found the murderer, this would be very worrisome with that person loose as the Colonel is responsible for all in his camp and charge...

@@damarekonayaro5781 This is when the BBC made good dramas, they entertained. True the BBC's Charter has within it a requirement to educate and inform but all the BBC does with drama now is to moralise and virtue signal. Hence, how they have fucked up Dr Who. When the Boat Comes In (as mentioned above) looked at capitalism and socialism in the 20s and 30s almost certainly with a bias towards socialism but it was done with a light touch. Now all they want to do is ram the message down your throat. Stuff whether the programme is any good or not. A series like this or the possibly even better Secret Army would never be made now.
