Coldplay - Paradise // Amy Turk, Harp

Aside from the fact that it's been quite a long time since I've posted a pop cover on this channel, I've been gigging this song at weddings for a few years now since it came up as a request a couple of summers ago, and it's become one of my favourites to perform. So, I hope you like my take on it! This arrangement was a great challenge to create, and is one of those songs where all the stars align, and somehow I'm able to fit in the melody, chords, bassline and percussion parts for the full duration. It's not always easy to tell if that's going to be possible when I start arranging a song, especially if it is for a client and something I wouldn't normally listen to, or don't know already, but it is so satisfying when it all comes together. That's something that's been so gratifying about taking requests from my clients over the years, that it has challenged me to dig deeper and find new ways to make modern material work for the harp. I think this piece showcases my favourite things about that process, when it really goes well.

Um so I’ve never posted a comment on youtube before cause I’m a 24/7 lurker, but here I go. You consistently make my jaw drop with your creative arrangements and technical brilliance. I’m also a harpist, been playing for 22 years and for the past several years have been somewhat jaded. I didn’t abandon the instrument entirely, but I rarely sat down to play for a few years. Anyways, coming across your channel was the catalyst that revived my passion for playing. Your style is a breath of fresh air, and I can hear how much you love your craft in your performances. I’m finding it hard to put in to words how inspiring it is to me. Also I’m slightly drunk. That could be a contributing problem. In conclusion, you are amazing. I don’t expect I’ll ever achieve the same level of virtuosic mastery as you, but that doesn’t matter to me. I enjoy playing the harp and I love watching you breathe new life in to the instrument.
