I think what makes a song beautiful and powerful is that whoever listens to it can relate to it in some way, shape or form. It really matters little what Chris thought of when he wrote the song. I think what matters most is the meaning each individual breathes into the song. It's what you can take away from the song and fit it to your life that makes the song meaningful and memorable.

For people wondering about the strumming patterns, it's pretty much all downs. Now I heard that it goes up when he's about to change chords but honestly it does not matter if you get the strumming pattern exactly correct as long as you strum at the appropriate time, change chords at the right time and your rhythm is good. Just my 2 cents at least.
