Better drill than most infanyty battalions. Well done lads

There is something with the elegance of movement in the use of long rifles in drill that the stubby little SA80 simply cannot achieve.

Good stuff.... I did this in the cadets way way back in 1960 at The Duke of Yorks in Chelsea... these lads look better than we did!!!

Pains me to say but this drill is better than modern regular Guardsmen!

Agreed, i put that down to the Guards Depot no longer exclusive to the Household Div.

Oh my! 32 years ago...and I wasn't young then. Very smart young men. I hope they had great days, whatever field they settled to.

Absolutely brilliant drill lads you can be proud of what you did. I wonder how many of you entered the military full time.

I suggest that this is an army cadet unit under Coldstream Guards instruction. Lee Enfields were used by cadets at that time and had been out of regular service for decades. The squad is not wearing Guards kit.

Well done lads not sure about using the SA 80 for this , but the old and trusted LEE Enfield or perhaps the SLR works well.

Great performance from 99 battery. Nearly as good as the winning performance by 'B' platoon, the Cameronians, Scottish rifles ,Glasgow ACF at Drip camp, Stirling, in 1977.

Guards should do Buckingham House Duties with Lee-Enfields, Bundeswehr "Guards/Ceremonial Troops" still use Mauser K98.Looks silly with Bullpup Rifles and covers over optics.

What I want to know right now, is are they Coldstream Guards, Royal Artillery, or cadets. All three were mentioned, but not specified😅

99 Cadet Battery, 9Regiment Royal Artillery.

I’m surprised that they are carrying the old Lee Enfield in the same way as an SLR, it looks odd. The Lee Enfield was carried over the left shoulder when on the march, it had no pistol grip like the SLR has. I suppose the Cadets are drilling with the Enfield because there are no SLRs available for them however well done and well turned out, hope they joined the regulars when they were older. Coldstream Guards veteran.

If you can read the title. It says 'Coldstream Gaurds 'Drill' Competition'. It doesn't say they're CGs.

Wait.........this is supposed to be 1986? Why are they using old Enfield rifles instead of SLR's?

I`m surprised to see them drilling with Lee Enfields.
@littlenemo146 жыл бұрын
Rupert McNaught Davis they are not Lee Enfield, they are using the greatest rifle ever, the SLR 7.62mm one shot stopper.
@rupertmcnaughtdavis73026 жыл бұрын
Steve,definitely Lee Enfields,No4 Mk 2`s or possibly Mk 1`s.
@littlenemo146 жыл бұрын
Rupert McNaught Davis I have drilled with the SLR many many times on that actual parade ground and they are doing the drill I did. The Enfield is not carried like they are doing in the march. It is carried on the shoulder and not by the side.
@rupertmcnaughtdavis73026 жыл бұрын
Agreed they are doing the SLR drill but are using Lee Enfield.Look carefully at the video.I have also done both drills.
@littlenemo146 жыл бұрын
Rupert McNaught Davis then they must be holding the rifle either by the trigger guard or the short stubby magazine on the Enfield. Sorry I cannot agree with you still.

The British system is based on volunteers, who are highly paid compared to the israelis, and has a huge amount of institutional pride based on a history going back decades or centuries - the israeli is more 'I fight, so my kid brother won't get his head bashed in by a rock' except for some units. This is expressed in the ceremonies, the pomp, and the dress uniforms. Hope that answers your question!
@Ozziehoward12 жыл бұрын
An entirely different philosophy of combat and people management. First, the IDF is made up of conscripts and reservists, with a fairly small 'regular' core, so they train for their job and very little more - no firearms training for cooks for example. To give you some idea of how the IDF works a private earns about 750 NIS a month if they are a combat soldier, and no combat soldiers earn a lot less. There is almost no social gap between soldiers and officers.
