How? He would have to find artists who are not signed to a record label to direct videos with because nobody who has deal with a record label gets to keep their youtube money. That’s why they pay upfront. And there’s no way he would be this big if he would have worked only with artists who aren’t signed.

He still gets paid. And they’re coming to him now so all he has to do is figure out the amount he lost and get it upfront out the fee. Which is what I’m sure he is doing. And why would the label be at fault for paying him. It’s the artist budget it comes out of. The label only would care if he uses vevo which is owned by the labels to shoot the video.

This doesn’t make any sense since these are usually the official videos and are sanctioned by the artists’ labels. Lyrical Lemonade should earn revenue off their channel as the official artist pages do

No he has a deal with artists and record labels so that he directs and they use his channel to monetize the directed video so it’s still shown his own channel. Otherwise if he directs a video it would be shown on artists channel and he wouldn’t get so much promotion and merchandise sales. This probably benefits him because they pay a lot more than he would get otherwise if the video isn’t doing crazy numbers and he gets to grow his own channel and merchandise. There’s not many directors who get to do that.
