Cole, my maternal grandfather was a commercial fisherman in the 70’s. Back then you got your fresh fish from private fishermen. My aunt has pictures of him with flatheads as big as humans that he caught on trot lines! I used to love to go fishing with my PawPaw! Missing our JayJay! Lots of prayers for y’all! I was bass fishing on Bayou Bodcau in 1970s and as we loaded up the boat to go I saw a trot line fisherman next to his truck looking exhausted but excited. He called for me to come look. He had two standing metal drum barrels with huge tails hanging out of them..largest flat heads I had ever seen..both looked about 75 pounds @....will never forget seeing those. No wonder my 20 lb line broke on some of my cat fishing trips! :-)

That little green spinning reel I have on my crappie pole is made by bonehead I think. It’s decent to use on the long jig poles but it’s not my favorite for casting and reeling.

Cole you should really try out the whisker seekers 9’6” cat pole I believe is there longest length rod they have but it could be a 10’ pole also?? Not exactly sure the proper length but no it is one or the other and I have had mine for probably close to 5 years now and absolutely love mine and it has been able handle every fish I have hooked with it also!!! They have a really nice double lock real seats and I also believe they are a SS also!!! The eyelets are definitely beefy also and I have not had any issues with them either!!! Nice a smooth on the line and help to bomb the line out for distance when needed!!! The whisker seeker rods are definitely my go to catfish rods for sure!!!

My buddy has some of those and loves his. Might get me one to mix in. Loving this mad Katz rod though! It’s got the double lock reel seat and beefy guides too. Would be interesting to see the rods go head to head!

you gotta stop messing with the drag the whole time. I have seen more lines pop as the drag is messed with than any other time. preset it for the line/tackle, then leave it till landed. trust me.
