I am in England and Shane and Tom's story has made it's way here and I am sharing it at every opportunity. My Fiance and I have watched bridegroom twice this week alone. It has touched our hearts. Shane you have a family far wider than you can even imagine. Tom didn't even realize how close his passing would bring the LGBT community in the fight for equality. I would love to be able to wrap my arms around you and reassure you that the actions of Tom's family just goes to show they never knew their boy at all. You hit the nail on the head when you said that he was the monument to them. I just finished Bridegroom and I am so touched and moved by this movie. Love like their love is so rare and special in this world. I have not cried so much in a long time. This movie inspires me to work so much harder to fight for marriage equality. What Tom's family did to Shane is just so heartbreaking and wrong and evil. What Tom's family did was pure evil.

When I watched the It Could Happen to You video it only had 350 views. I remember crying so hard my mother got home thinking the worst did not even ask what’s wrong just held me till I was able to speak. My mother had me and my sister we both are gay and not twins. It’s a struggle for my whole family seeing a battle in a world that judges before it sees the truth. I watched the movie with my mom and sure enough we both cried through the whole thing.

Tom and Shane's story. I think that is just horrible. He didn't even get to say a final goodbye to Tom, because the family was to cruel to realize that they really loved each other. Shane, I'm very sorry for your loss, and I'm sorry for everything that happened after that. That family didn't deserve Tom, and they had no right to be so cruel to you. This reminds me of my baby brother, Blake. Rip beautiful young boy. He was diagnosed with SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) at only 3 months old. I've been dealing with self harm the past few years and even suicide attempts. Like many here and all over the world, I cried and cried and cried while watching Bridegroom. I felt so much by the end of this movie, as I myself have not come out to my family as bi yet, and I'm afraid to do so as my family is very much like Tom's. I don't understand how parents who love their children can't accept them for who they truly are, it saddens me so. Shane, I'm glad you were able to pull through this and make Tom's life an everlasting symbol of hope for not only LGBT people, but people who are in love.

Today is the third anniversary of Tom's death and this song just yanks at my heart again. Two years ago when Shane first released his video on KZbin it got me up off my butt and moving, and now my husband and I have filed a federal lawsuit along with another couple in Florida to have our marriage recognized and to allow our friends to GET married. We are hopefully doing our part but Shane can be sure of one thing, Tom was whispering in my ear that day - What Have YOU done for me lately and - if we manage to get this thing done - Tom and Shane will be in large part responsible.
