I do some Coleman BT200x Mini Bike Riding for review, take you through general tools and pre-ride checks that helped me for quick mods, and go over both some common problems I've seen. Then I go into places I've gone to be able to get help to avoid frustrations. I list specs and limits below in the description here.
This can be purchased from Walmart here:
bit.ly/2O4AfS2
Please do list any issues you've had with your BT200X so far! I'd love to be able to keep track of common issues. I've been keeping watch on a few groups online which I go into in the video, so I put together issues I ran into and saw many times.
I have not had too many problems with my Coleman mini bike (BT200X) and am pretty happy with it overall so I'm putting up a small review on what I've taken it through for mini bike riding do far. I am glad to be involved in some pretty nice online mini bike groups and gained insight and experience from them. I've seen what problems they have had, asked advice from others, and come to see what common problems are floating around with the Coleman bt200x mini bike. It's one of the cheap mini bike types so expect to put a little time into it, but one of the best mini bike for the cost.
I have a top speed video where at the end I go into a little information on the rear rack I put on from a CT200U rack kit. I have the unboxing, initial review video, and a few others where I do mini bike riding for ice fishing, studded tires and how I studded the tires and even have a few clips doing wheelies for you. I do a few more dangerous things, so please do not attempt yourself (disclaimer) or you'll be doing anything at your own risk.
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you have a great day!
Coleman powersports BT200X mini bike specs:
Front Suspension
196cc engine - roughly 6 hp
Rear drum brake
Light bulb feeds off coil(s)
138 lbs listed weight
From my measurements: Seat is 29 inches tall. Handle bars are 36 inches tall. 58 inches from end to end with stock tires (2 inches shy of 5 foot). 8 inch seat width. Pegs are 24 inches from front of seat, so a smaller leg would need a few inches added to that. Wheel center to wheel center is 41 inches. Human body center would ride about 10 inches in from of center of rear hub. My full size sport motorcycles have seat heights of 30 (Yamaha R3) and 33 inches (Suzuki GSX-S1000).
I forgot if I saw a weight limit on the box, but I have seen a few people around 250lbs having no issues with the bike. I am 6' tall, 185 and no issues getting me up to 25-26 mph.

Going to add a small motorcycle battery and just leave it on my battery tender when not in use. My math shows it can run leds over 8 hours. You via new subscriber.

I almost bought one today, but my Dad said he knew someone who has one, low mileage, but no front shocks, 'might' sell it. I like this BT200X, looks quite heavy duty, and if that's what I do get, I'll be considering welding on rear shocks.

Howdy. I like that you left the bike mostly stock. I can see where those tires make a big difference. I recently bought a CT200U and I am getting caught up in all the upgrades. You've reminded me of what is truly important: safety, utility and fun. I already bought the carb jet, air filter and exhaust. Think I'll add those tires and stop there. I also wanted to add what a few others said: gopower is not the only game in town. I ordered from both OMB and BMI and I liked their prices and selection. Shipping was a little steep, but what are you gonna do? Thanks for the great video.

Just bought and unboxed my kids bt200x on Christmas Eve. One of the bolts that tightens the bottom bracket on the front fork, was cross threaded from the manufacturer and when I went to torque it down during assembly, the bolt sheared. I suggest NOT exceeding the manufacturer 15 ft/lbs specifications, unless you upgrade the hardware. Luckily the place I bought it allowed me to exchange the fork assembly. Just something to keep an eye in when assembling one.

I've had a Coleman BT-200X for a couple of years and I've left it 'box stock' it's a blast to ride as is. Maintenance is simple just keep things properly lubricated and tensioned and the tires aired up and she's good to go. I did have to replace the recoil starter assembly mine failed when I tried to start it this past spring fortunately I found a direct drop-in replacement at a reasonable price. OEM tires are not the best for muddy/wet grass conditions I see the stock OEM tires have been replaced on the bike in this video..I plan to replace the tires on mine with better ones when they're worn out.

At 14:29 you can see the reason for the throttle sticking... That little tab sticking up gets caught on the air cleaner assembly I noticed it on my Coleman just today ...I had to replace a missing clip for my throttle when re assembling the air cleaner I notice it wouldn't seat properly at first I thought nothing of it until checking that everything was functioning properly and the throttle got stuck ....so I got snooping around and saw that tab touching the base of the air cleaner housing .... Since sticky throttles seem to be an issue on just more than bike I'll post a video showing exactly what I'm talking about ...

Great info and nice, clear speaking. A problem I've had has to do with the rear wheel binding up as I tighten the axle. This happens even with the brake cable completely disassembled. Also, I've replaced both rear wheel bearings and they spin beautifully. I cannot figure out what is happening and have had a hard time finding any info on line. I'm suspicious that something in the brake shoe assembly is binding. Any suggestions?

@jimtinter4397

@@Extremity13 Hi Cameron. Here's what I figured out on two of the Colemans I used to have (I've since sold both of them and moved up to Trailmaster MB200's which have a rear disc brake - WAY better! It seems that the slop in the bearing holding the brake actuator lever in the drum caused the brake shoe to rotate and lift up ever so slightly making the corner edge of the shoe contact the drum and cause significant drag. What I did was remove the brake shoes and use my grinder to put a 45 degree bevel on both edges of the brake shoes. That seemed to solve the problem. Hope this helps.

@@ruben5081 perfectly fine. Both clutch or torque converter disengage from the engine while off (when maintained properly). They spin with centrifugal force when engine is running and that creates the contact for forward momentum as the engine sounds above 1000rpm (often 2000). When pushing them around without the engine on, the chain is not engaged to the engine and is fine. If it feels the engine is engaged, there needs to be maintenance on the drive mechanism (clutch or cvt).

I just bought a BT200. Last weekend I put my new VM22mm Mikuni Carburetor on, a new header pipe with muffler and new intake on it oh and my new throttle. Now it goes from 15mph up to 40 mph. Along with a gear change of course. I was gonna put my 212 race engine on it, but I'm gonna buy a stretched frame to put that on. My race engine is setup for turbo or supercharger with nitrous. I wanna use that for drag racing. I do however wanna buy a new billet flywheel for my BT200. Since I took off the coil since it has a limiter on it and my new coil doesn't, I don't wanna turn too many rpm's with and have the flywheel explode while riding it. I had a CT200 ex-u with the 212 ghost engine, but I had problems with the bike itself. So I gave it to my neighbor and he got it running again and I'll let him deal with the headaches lol. I got it free anyways, but I did however buy the ghost engine to put on it. And my race engine has 3 times what the ghost engine has as far as hp. Plus everything inside is either stainless, billet or forged. I also have a nice race cam and roller rockers on that baby lol. Just needs stainless lifters and it's complete and ready for a bike frame or go kart frame. I'm ready!!

@megoingfast 3 жыл бұрын
@@adamrodriguez5780 the risk of taking the governor out is valve float if you rev it without load (such as down hill full speed). My stock engine would surge at the top. Different governors are designed in different ways. 18lb springs fixes the valve float matter, and a pvl flywheel is the next thing people get to prevent the engine from having issues at those high-end speeds the engine was not designed for.

Safety measure if you can't find the issue, make sure you know which direction the "master link" on the chain goes, and remove the chain in full. This should allow for safer testing. Next thing, need to check for what's holding the throttle sticking open. Common issues, the throttle is stuck on the air filter box, the throttle is stuck due to dirt on the valve or the cable. Throttle return spring broken or too weak.

If a small engine gets tipped over the oil can leak into the intake or exhaust valves. Unbolt the exhaust, drain and clean with rag. The engine may smoke for a while. The spark plug may need to be cleaned afterwards if oil got into the intake. Seen it happen a few times, once on my lawn mower when someone flipped it to look at the blade after they hit something. After removing the governor screw on mine it surges at high idle, any ideas?
@megoingfast
@megoingfast 3 жыл бұрын
The governor is inside the engine crank case/block. It's a centrifugal forced gear tied to the crankshaft. The screw you removed is likely a throttle stop screw. The surging you are experiencing is the governor kicking in at high rpms. The Hisun engine governor is a "hunt and surge governor". You can put a new screw in and set it right below surge point or remove the governor. I do not recommend the ziptie trick. If you are wanting extra speed, I do detail the torque converter modification a little for all builds in another video. Let me know if you have more questions!

I am going to buy the Mega moto 212cc for a second mini bike it has the front shock suspension and disk brakes a nice wider laid back seats and it cost the same as the Coleman ct200U as far as headlight I’ll be putting LED lights on both. One more thing on the plus side is it’s 10mph faster out of the box. I prefer Disk over drum brakes for better stopping and I am currently modding a Predator Hemi not sure where it’s going when I’m done but probably on the Mega moto and I’ll put the factory Mega moto 212cc on my Coleman ct200U.

Need to have the axle kit as it has a wider axle. I drilled into the rear of the frame and welded the supports in place HOWEVER, you don't need to weld if you just bolt on extension brackets.

I just bought one of these yesterday, took it out for a few hours and today I tried to ride it but it wouldn’t start. I changed the oil and made sure gas was in. I did cut off the throttle screw but that’s it. What do you think the problem is?
@megoingfast
@megoingfast 3 жыл бұрын
That could be very hard to tell from here unfortunately. Gotta go to basics. Kill switch still on, gas shut off, choke not on to start, vacuum in gas tank.
@megoingfast
@megoingfast 3 жыл бұрын
Level 2 checks would be carb float stuck, tap side a little with wrench to see if it drops. Check for spark, check compression, check you're not out of gas.

One question is why the hell does my bike rear brake lock up when I'm going for it but not when I'm going backwards
@megoingfast
@megoingfast 2 жыл бұрын
Try to loosen the drum spring using the nut near the right rear axle. One full revolution counter clockwise. The shoes are grabbing. Ensure the brakes then do not lock but work efficiently when the lever is squeezed. If the brake locks, try another full revolution in the brake drum tensioner nut and retest on level ground.

I live in Wisconsin and i will be using the same bike on the ice. Do you run seafoam and sta-bil all the time? Do you use recommended measurments for both when used at the same time?
@megoingfast
@megoingfast 4 жыл бұрын
I run it all the time. When I get a 5 gallon can filled I put the recommended amount of stabil in right away. I never know how long any of my engines the gas goes into will sit. I use below recommended amount of sea foam. Maybe a 1/4 amount. Too much stabil will give poor performance. The engines design is to run off the gas, the goal is keep the gas good with just a little sea foam to keep combustion level up and a little cleaning.

OMB mini bike, BMI mini bike, tractor supply doesn't supply mini bike parts nor does Walmart. Stay away from Go Power Sports. They'll always either send the wrong parts or they'll basically blow you off and you won't get anything. I spent $500 last month from go power sports and only 1 part was right. That was my rear tire. Everything was wrong and sometimes they send out parts that you didn't order and if you send back they charge you a restocking fee. And customer service is terrible. But OMB mini bike warehouse and BMI mini bike are the 2 best places to order. Oh and ebay is pretty good. Stay away from Amazon too. Mostly all Chinese junk
