You don't know who Sunny Hostin is? She's a direct descendent of one of the wealthiest slave owning families in Spain. In fact, the reason she lives here is because her family fled Spain when slaves were outlawed.

I am old, and feel that we give the young short shrift. When I was young, I saw through a lot of things. And now that I'm old, I listen to the young, when they have time for me. Age does not equal wisdom. We really need to stop this generational hatred. Boomers are not mean selfish ogres, and younger people are not lazy. We've been pitted against each other, and it's wrong. Just a thought. I like/respect Mr. Hughes as well. ~ from Canada

My aunt loves it, she's the type to argue about the sky being blue. The other day I walked in wearing a sleeveless shirt and said it's pretty cold outside and she said I think it actually feels good outside while she's wearing a jacket and covered up in a blanket sitting in front of a space heater. If you agree with her she argues, if you disagree she argues. She's a total liberal Joe loving demo. She wonders why her husband runs off and goes on a bender every chance he gets.

Your wife is correct. When I was in first grade, I had a White friend. She was sweet and we played together well. One day she came to me and said “ My Daddy told me not to play with kids like you” ( meaning Black kids). I didn’t even understand what she meant. But, I told my older siblings and they explained it. My own parents had not taught me anything about race differences. I still think about this and it still hurts, 63 years later. Please, parents. Don’t teach your children to hate.

@@KM-qy5vt Why defend her actions in this? She is on her own show in a position of power. Inviting a guest and telling them topics you want to speak on then railroading them down a different path is unkind. What are the motives behind doing that? If she read his book two times she already knows his opinions. If I was in a similar position as him having my words and character be publicly challenged I don't know that I would know how to defuse it. It would have been interesting to understand why the refocus on his character occurred. Maybe she read the book twice and invited him on because what his books said held something that causes an uncomfortable shifted her world view. Maybe we were witnessing her trying to glue her world view back together? Edit.... I saw other comments about her family's history. Maybe she is carrying guilt and his book shook her because it caused her to think her actions based on guilt are misplaced? I am not her so I can't say for sure but there was more going on here than what she shared with the viewers. 26 years ago I was living in Costa Rica. I used to read articles written by Rigoberto Stewart, a Costa Rican economist. I became a fan and I spoke about him often with my wife. One day, I went to one of his conferences and I got to speak to him. I was thrilled and I came back with the story to my wife. She said she wanted to know what he looked like and I showed her his picture in the newspaper. She said: "He is black. You never mentioned he is black." My answer made her laugh: "He is an economist!" Of course, I noticed he was black, but it was of little importance to me, so I left it out. On the contrary, when he published a book advocating for increased autonomy for Limon, an area of Costa Rica where black costaricans form the majority of the population, I added to my story that he was a Black economist because it was relevant for the story. This is what I understand as color-blind. Of course, I support your solution to end racism, to treat each individual as an individual.

It's rarely mentioned that the "colorblind" or "I don't see race" motifs were never even originally meant to be literal. They were always references to the classical western ideals of blind justice. Look at neo-classical art: Lady Justice is always depicted in statues and paintings with a blindfold. Does anyone actually believe judges and juries are blind? Of course not. It always was a platonic ideal to strive for.
