MF DOOM forever! Thanks Master Cole, you really explained the essence of DOOM and what made him unique. To master the road enough to not need it altogether is flipping amazing to witness!

Yo MG, my pleasure bro! Yes, that's my big take away from studying DOOM, it can be cool intentionally not have everything "cadence and rhymes" perfectly symmetrical all the time. I'm glad you enjoyed man! Thanks for rockin' with me! ✌😎 - Cole Mize

I'm not a rapper, but here's my 2c...I think you captured the essence of what makes it unique really well, but this thing about "technically perfect" vs "imperfect" is not how I see it. Delivering the raps "dirty" is technically really hard...you gotta know exactly where the beat is while never touching it, and your rhymes have to be really strong to overpower the off beat delivery. Then having all these internal rhymes also means you have to work your pen way harder because on a regular scheme rhyming only at the end of the phrase, you can put whatever you want in the beginning, but here you have to maintain your focus through the whole line, and it's also easy to get tongue twisted. It's not "technical" like Busta Rhymes or Eminem but it's technical in a different way and there's a whole lineage of rappers like Chuck D, Big Boi, Biggie etc...still good video though

Thanks Joey, I agree 100%. That's why I also included the segment about his swing as well, to demonstrate how difficult what he's doing is. And I also mentioned how what he's doing isn't a mistake, it's 100% intentional. In art we intentionally distort things so there not to "perfect" which gives them character. Such as adding distortion or saturation to a picture. We also do similar things with music and most certainly in rap. This is why I also said in my video at the end that just because something is "perfect" doesn't mean it's good. Just because something is "technically correct" doesn't make it right. What we're doing is all about feeling and what's most important is, does it feel good? Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! ✌😎 - Cole Mize

I have a question, i’ve noticed with alot of freestyles back in the 90’s, they were written verses not really off the dome freestyles, my question is, how were they able to get the verse that they didn’t write to that beat to match perfectly with the beat they are rhyming on? were people not writing with beats back then due to the fact of beats really not even being easily accessible?
@ColeMizeStudios2 ай бұрын
Great question! The thing is, when you write a rap verse it has musical structure and timing to it. If the verse was written while listening to an instrumental it will be written to the tempo of that instrumental. If it was written without an instrumental we typically will still write to some internal tempo we decide for our selves. So as long as you play instrumentals that are within 20 bpm's of the tempo you wrote to, you will be able to rap it over that instrumental likely without any issues. The trick it to wrote verses over different tempo ranges so you can rap over any beat anyone puts on. There's two main tempo ranges in Hip-Hop (85-105) give or take. This is where a lot of your traditional boom bap beats live in. Then you have your slower trap style instrumentals which are in R&B ranges of (60-80) give or take. I hope this helps! ✌😎 - Cole Mize
I just find him to be less generic. Less boring. Having raps that are too rigid is like spitting limericks. It loses its sickness, becoming derivative. Originality beats banal bars because following the same game isn't actually hard. 😅

This was really interesting :) I love how you explain the techniques which seem so strange to us ! I think Dooms has a created his proper style. That's impressive to see how fluent his flow is although there's no pattern :) I was wondering if you know NF, it's a rapper whose flow sounds really good and original for me. Would you find it interesting to make a video about him one day ? Thanks for this video, you teach rap like a captivating science where there isn't any limit :) Also, I can use different notes in a bar, but it's really hard for me to use different note in the same time or to put a note in between two bars or two time. How could reach this goal / improve ? PS : sorry for any error that may be present in my comment, I'm french. Merci beaucoup !

You’re mixing up rhyme PATTERNS with rhyme schemes. Rhyme schemes are when you use wordplay that references the same topic. Like if my scheme is fruits or food and I say, “I’m about to go bananas! I squash you like grapes! You wine, but still get berried till a later date!” That’s a rhyme scheme. Bananas, grapes, wine, squash, berries, dates.
@a_jaheen2 ай бұрын
What you are describing as "rhyme schemes" is what is commonly referred to as "scheming". They just have similar names, but rhyme schemes and scheming are two completely different things. Scheming is about wordplay and has nothing to do with rhymes.
@ColeMizeStudios2 ай бұрын
I've never heard anyone define a rhyme scheme as you just did. Just do a quick google search for "what is a rhyme scheme" and you will see many others explain it, just as I did. I think you may be confusing a rhyme scheme with a rhyme theme. A "pattern" is anything that repeats so a rhyme scheme and rhyme pattern can be used interchangeably. But hey, perhaps I'm still missing something, and if so correct me. Thanks for watching and for your input. ✌😎 - Cole Mize
@ColeMizeStudios2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. What you refer to as "scheming" is what I typically call a "theme" Like a verse may have a theme of basketball so you use words like "shoot, drop the ball, overtime, foul, court etc..." these could be rhymes but don't have to be, the theme is about connecting things together. Is "scheming" a slang term that you use, or is it a literary device that you learned somewhere? Thanks for sharing your input ✌😎 - Cole Mize
