This was a special that pre-empted "THE DEAN MARTIN SHOW" (of which Colgate-Palmolive was one of its primary sponsors) on May 11, 1967. It also doubled as a pilot for a weekly series- which NBC passed on.

The Hollywood Palace kind of filled the Colgate void during the 1960s on ABC, and that took the place of the Jerry Lewis show that ABC lost a bundle on. Variety/ Comedy shows were passé by the late 70s and were becoming much too expensive to produce. Burnett kept the format alive as long as she could, but with the expense of music rights and mass production, that type of show fell out of favor.
