it's true. When Pen told him that they were friends, Colin felt a lot of pain, because he realized that the girl he was madly in love with considered him a friend and nothing more. Colin was really in a lot of pain, so much so that he was on his knees and couldn't look her in the eyes. And if Pen hadn't finally risked giving her feelings a chance, Colin would have cried kneeling in front of Pen for the rest of the trip, and later he would have gotten drunk from the intense pain. He wouldn't have slept at night, he would have cried at night, without leaving the house. After all, the situation here is not like with Marina, since he just liked her outwardly, but here Colin is really madly in love and burning with an insanely strong love for Pen, so much so that if Pen hadn't responded to his feelings, he would have remained alone for the rest of his life, secretly burning with an insanely strong love for Pen.😢❤

Colin has always been emotionally intelligent, he is the first to notice when others are feeling down or out of sorts and always quick to lend a helping hand or help the situation in some way. It's just when it came to himself, he was in denial about who he really was. I blame the role models of his brothers for this in part, and also the Marina fiasco which made him spiral, but honestly he cleaned up his act at the age of 22, after only one hot boy summer. Kudos to him!

I do wish they could have had the scene from the book where they walk in on the Featherington family meeting and her mother keeps asking Pen to leave the room so Colin could propose to her younger sister Felicity because she can’t fathom that Colin wants to marry Pen. But since they did not use Felicity’s character in the series they had to rework the scene. A lot of the dialogue was changed to when he overhears her mother doubting his ove of Pen.
