Fife says, to Colin, "Come now Bridgerton. Surely the girls of summer made your trip most FULL-filling." Which is part of what prompts Colin to opine about being forced to pretend that what is most important isn't important at all. So we come to the end, and he is finally ready to proclaim that what leaves him fulfilled is loving Pen. It's a beautiful conclusion to his search for what he wants and needs, and feels that society is telling him he isn't supposed to want those things, and him realizing it is the only thing he truly wants.

@@ru3144 The conversation in episode one when Pen is leaving the ball in tears is another of these throwbacks that also ties to his final declaration as well. Colin doesn't understand why Pen is being so cold to him, even reverting to calling him Mr. Bridgerton. He says "Is something wrong, Pen? Between us, I mean. I wrote to you this summer, as I always do, and well, you did not respond. Admittedly, very few did. But, if you are going to make me say it out loud, I miss you." This is remarkably similar to their conversation after his first trip abroad when he tells Pen that she is the only one who responded to all his letters. But the stakes are completely different this time, and he is the one seeking her attention, when last season it was reversed. Then we get to his final declaration, and what was it that finally made him truly see her, and understand that he has been in love with her, through her writing, all along? That her "voice" and LW's are the same? Her letters! Good story telling has that emotional depth that layers the character's history and interactions. I can only say I've observed it in Bridgerton and Good Omens recently, and both have left me with an (almost) unhealthy obsession. I am upset with this season about one thing. I feel that they left out at least one, but I think two, love scenes, that would have been emotional and beautiful, but also would capture the emotional turmoil and resolution. I think there should have been an intimate scene after Colin's final declaration (not that little 5 second throw away), that fully shows how enchanted he is and how confident Pen has become. The other should have been their wedding night, when they are trying to reconcile their pain and anger with how much they love each other. it would have been so emotional and compelling. I feel a little cheated that we didn't get that. Sorry so long. I love this kind of thing.

Do you know what! One part of this season that isn’t talked about enough… is when Colin goes to meet Cressida and and tried to reason with her… He says “there is Penelope who has experienced a kind of loneliness surely neither of us could ever fathom. Imagine being so ignored that you feel invisible “ And this was when I knew the writers were careful about this season… because even though he hadn’t fully reconciled with his wife, and he was still upset about the whole Lw thing, he still didn’t dismiss the fact that pen is a victim and has been so badly hurt by a lot of people. Her family were cruel to her, the ton was cruel to her. She was ignored for years, seen as someone who had no life or personality. I was so happy that Colin didn’t undermine his wife’s pain at all despite still being hurt He’s such a beautiful soul 😢❤❤

I love Colin and Penelope. He has loved and cared about her since season 1, all the times he stood up for her. It is especially evident in Season 3. I love all of them and I’m really enjoying Penn and Colin…just wish we could have had much more scenes with them instead of Benedict traipsing with the older lady and her lover. Isn’t he going to get his own season? I would have loved to see flashbacks of when Pen and Colin first met, more of his burning looks and he should have been required to fight more for her against Lord Debling. More of their ‘I want you but I am upset with you right now” interactions and confirmation that the baby boy was conceived in that mirror scene. Oh welll…

I love that when we see Colin reading her letters that the other letters with them are tightly bound while Penelope’s letters are barely knotted which to me means that this wasn’t the first time he has gone back to read them and in fact has read them quite often.

Thank you so much for this summary I regret the show was not focusing more on Colin and perhaps make some flashbacks to his past, you drawn his character so well, that I love him even more. His good heart and kindness. His declaration about being fulfilled as a husband of Lady Whistledown I find somehow 'too much', also all this rushed topic of Whistledown discovery, declaration and speach by Penelope (Colin not by her side even many minuted after) it just did not add up for me. But the actor did amazing job. Thank you again!

Have you watched Sammy Bates video about Colin?? I highly recommend you to watch it, it is so good ❤ i liked his declaration because he said IF so for me it was good, i agree the lw reveal was so rushed, and he didn't went to her after the reveal because we needed to see penelope to talk to her mom, and lady danbury before the big speech of him and their dance and dont be interrupted and we can see he was waiting for his turn to talk to her, it was just a script choice

Loved this. Can’t wait to see them in S4. Julie Quinn did a second prologue for each of her books and Penn and Colin have a brood of children. Pen has written a romance novel after editing all of Colin’s travel books. I pray they continue their story in the next season.
