I don’t think double breasted suits are old-fashioned at all. They’re very cool and I would definitely get one.

The tweed suit in the first few scenes is made by cordings of Piccadilly, while the boots are from Church footwear, an amazing suit

Back in the 1980s, I had a double breasted suit, but even then I looked like a refrigerator wearing a tie. I haven’t changed my shape over the last 40yrs so my suits are single breasted simple grey or navy. Honestly at this point in my life tweed and or blazers serve as my “go to”proper wardrobe with the suits on rare business meetings. It is a challenge to wear any formal wear when you are shaped like a refrigerator. Not stout, just very square. 😂 Happy Christmas to all! JR old warrior, even older novelist.

During my brief stay in the San Diego County Jail (no charges brought) the nickname immediately bestowed upon me by the cartels was Kingsman. Bless their little hearts. LOL

The suit I wore for my high school graduation was double breasted. I've been wearing double breasted ever since.

Well done. Very classy choice. The suit I wore was an embarrassment.

Double-breasted suits are the best. I always recieve compliments when I wear then. Granted, I'm 195 cm and well-built, but I highly recommend them.

The Viennese tailors shop used in 'Operation Silver' may make interesting reading. Fleming did some early writing for Man From Uncle too by the way.

OK I did not know that. Thanks. Doing a review of the movie soon, though I was a fan of the TV show when I was a kid.

Didnt know Alfred from Batman was a corrupted boss of a secret service, what a disgrace 🤣 Great video, keep up the Kingsman videos, or even maybe a style analysis of Chrstian Bale’s Bruce Wayne 😃

Very smooth suit you have on in the end! Double breasted are good for taller thinner men in my opinion, I’m short and muscly wouldn’t look good on me!
@ForTheLoveOfSuits15 күн бұрын
Thanks. I've always felt too thin for a double breasted suit because of it's squareness but never tried one on. Same reason denim jackets don't look good on me. Too boxy. So I'll give the double breasted jacket try next time I have an opportunity.

I still like a nice double breasted suit. I have owned two over my lifetime. One that I currently have that needs some updates tailoring wise, but my first suit in high school was double breasted and I loved it because it was different than what everyone else was wearing.

I suspect the "oxfords not brogues" line was a deviation from the script. Or at least the intended script. Consider not as a choice between the two, but in sequence. Plainly speaking, he is advising wearing oxford style shoes - but without any brogue. The line may have first been conceived as "oxfords, no brogue." Of course I am guessing, but the line makes sense this way, and allows that someone in the writing process understood the difference.
@willardsheen98115 күн бұрын
Yes, it seemed like a mistake when I first heard it, but it does make sense when interpreted this way.
@ForTheLoveOfSuits15 күн бұрын
It's no crime but a fun opportunity to explain the difference. Whatever slight variation Colin Firth may have made saying the line it sounds great but does not make perfect sense as a comparison. So you could very well be right.

A video about Matthew Vaughn’s use of suits which in turn demonstrates the idea that “the suit is a modern day gentleman’s armour.” I enjoyed it. And, no, I am not a fan of the double-breasted suit. Few men look comfortable stylish in it. Someone such as Colin Firth or Tom Hiddleston do look great in it. But can you imagine Ricky Gervais or Dev Patel in that? The best suit featured in this video is not one from the vision of Mattew Vaughn but from the “tailor in Shanghai.” 7:20 This suit looks like a great fit. And sadly, we still don’t know the name of the creator behind this channel, For The Love of Suits! For the love of improving your rapport with an audience, tell us your name! This channel is about men’s style from cinema and TV that’s mostly influenced by British culture and British history, yet this guy fails to do the first British thing which is to introduce himself! Good manners! Who are you? Jim? John? Fergus? Derek? Ricky Winston? Bob? Barbara? Maureen? (11th December 2024).

I have embraced DB suits for decades along with SB! If you have not you should, especially if you are slight , slim and could use a bit of girth ( hint) . they can be light weight or heavier and never fail to impress, trust me and with that hat you'll kill them dead (in a good way) , Cheers.

Why is everyone struggling with a logic of "oxfords, not brogues?" It means oxfords, but not brogued, as in: "Suits, not double breasted" "Shirts, not flannels" "Sweaters, not turtlenecks"
@650rcr615 күн бұрын
because... in regular speak it would be "oxfords, no brogues" or "oxfords, without brogues". NOT brogues implies they're mutually exclusive and they're not mutually exclusive.
@teekue11 күн бұрын
It'd be: Oxfords, no brogueing.
