Hi. At least where I am, suit vests returned to women's fashion and they're also seen as a lighter alternative to wearing a suit jacket. Somewhere where you're supposed to be dancing or it's going to be hot (say, a wedding in summer or a ballroom dancing situation)- shirt, vest, bow-tie, no jacket.

I stil wear them & neck silks but I wear a leather thick long coat over top which is why most don't notice! It only when I take off indoors that most are surprised that I wear a true vest, shirt & 'waist coat' the same as my grandfather.

Australian here - i don't have a reason to dress up much these days, but when i was a university student, in an Australian version of an english university town (known as Armidale), where the summers only get to the mid 30's Degrees C, but the winters can and will be under Zero, cold n wet, and i am running out the door to a college formal dinner, i found and started wearing a waiste coat under accademic gowns, it is a bit of a class thing for me as a private school educated boy. But also a way to show my seniority over younger students. College ball was always fun, accross town via buses, which would end at like 2 or 3am, outside standing around waiting for buses and i would give my dinner suit jacket to some girl who wss cold, but the waiste coat would help keep me that little bit extra warm in what i consider to be a cold climate. These days the only time i really dress up is for weddings but if its black tie - then i certainly wear my waiste coat. Yes to me its waiste coat rather than vest. I do wear suspenders when in my dinner suit. Thanks for the education and i will be passing this onto a few mates.

For those entertainers who both play guitar for example, and sing, the vest is a very convenient garment, not just a stage prop. With its deep pockets, a vest becomes a place where such thing as picks, capos, even small tuning devices can be stored and easily retrieved.

I started wearing vests occasionally recently for, among other reasons, their ability to make you looks a bit slimmer (of course, this depends on the color and style of the vest). They are also great at eliminating the muffin look when your shirt slowly becomes untucked. I have gotten nothing but compliments since I started wearing them, from young and older people. I think an increasing number of people realize that looking informal all the time takes away the magic and, in my experience, people generally respond positively when you look more put-together. Vests also instantly increase the variation in your available outfits.

The waistcoat was in existence several decades before popularity in the English Court. It was developed by soldiers during a variety of conflicts in particular the English Civil Wars. The period was particularly cold , the Thames froze annually . Soldiers on reissue of their coats used the old coat i.e. the " waste coat " under the reissue by removing the parts subjected to high wear , sleeves and the bottom hemline of the coat . The " military look " ( still popular today of course ) became popular as did the colour red, with the gentry to appear more macho to impress the opposite sex despite the fact few served on the front line. By the reign of Charles 2nd , the garment had acquired an additional name , the " Chate " or " cheat " in that the garment was constructed of a fine quality heavy fabric in front with a lesser quality in the back panels which were often shortened to the waist .

I wear vests on a daily basis, I have them in a variety of materials and thicknesses, I begin wearing them because of me riding my motorcycle and it bled through all my activities and needs. They're great, they look great and it's an extra layer that won't mess with your upper limbs mobility, that matters both in winter and dead summer. Too many sleeves overlapping and you can't move, no sleeves in summer it's also useful.

I’ll be honest; I wear a waistcoat to hide some of my gut in my shirt. A waistcoat allows me to still wear my dress shirts without the hint that the buttons of the shirt are struggling to hold on 😂. Sizing up would create too much room in the arms/shoulders. Once I lose the weight, the waistcoat can be adjusted in the back to bring it in to fit my slimmer waist. Waistcoats can style you through different sizes 👍🏼.

As someone who tries to wear vests/waistcoats often, I can say they trap a lot of heat. They’re viable in the cold and if you work in the cold, but in heated buildings or warmer climates, they’re very suffocating. There’s just no point in wearing it. It’s also why pirate captains didn’t really wear their coats outside of looking wealthy in settlements-if they did at all-because they were otherwise impractical where they mostly operated. If it’s true that the Earth is warmer now than it was a hundred years ago, then that’s another reason they’re worn less, because even the cooler months are no longer as cold as need be for a waistcoat to be practical. Additionally, it’s a matter of fashion trends. I’m glad I still see gentleman sporting waistcoats. They’re elegant.

Our workplace is more work-casual for wear, and I definitely prefer wearing a waistcoat as opposed to a regular suit jacket and tie. Subscribed. At 2:10 you have described something in a quote as referring to something being "viral." Viral and virile are two words that are sometimes confused. They are close in spelling and pronunciation. We will examine the definitions of viral and virile, where these words came from and some examples of their use in sentences. Viral is an adjective that refers to something related to a virus. A virus is a type of germ or agent of infection that causes disease. Virile describes someone or something that is strong and vigorous. For the most part, the word virile is applied to males. Virile is an adjective, the noun form is virility. The word virile is derived from the Latin word virilis, which means worthy of a man. Great job. Thanks for the content. Keep up the good work. בס'ד

As a teacher of The Lord of the Rings and a hobbit lover I've started wearing vests and sweater vests again, and I love it! It's a good look, and like the narrator said, it's more versatile than a coat for going between Idaho cold outside and the warm classrooms inside.

I wear waistcoats most of the time outside my apartment when it isn't too hot. I have 16, some with suits, some bought singly. In fact I noticed the other day on the way out I felt underdressed without one on. I have a range, from colourful, to designer, to cheap. Apart from my inner peacock 😅 one of the reasons I wear them is one of thr reasons you give; I don't want to wear a jacket indoors, and a waistcoat keeps shirt, and tie if I'm wearing one, under control. They can also add that flash of contrast you mention, giving colour against a white or pale shirt worn with dark trousers. And yes, the back panel design can add a 'pop' to an otherwise straight colour combo.

I hardly ever wear a suit, but that aside, for me a waistcoat is almost a must to go with a suit *unless* it's summer. When it's too hot for a wool suit that includes a waistcoat, it just is.

I live in a hot area and thus can't really wear suit jackets or sport coats most of the time, but I also want to dress a little more than office casual. Vests are my solution - one other man at the office also wears them, we are easily the best dressed in the office.

As a woman, i love slacks w a vest, unbottoned collar, and rolled up sleeves like Patrick Jane from The Mentalist. Easy, elegant, good-looking on any man, and sharp. Practically impossible to find a two piece suit w a vest instead of a jacket though. It would be a lot cheaper. Vests are MUCH easier to make than a suit jacket. Bring vests back!

I’ve been wearing suits every day for 35 years. This is not a leaner trend. As a boy about 50% of suits had vest. Vests came back into style about 10 years ago. Most of the younger men I work with have at least one three piece suit.

Conversely, AC probably also contributed to the downfall of the vest, because it meant a shift to several of our biggest cities now being in places like Georgia, or Texas, so regardless of the office space, a man who came of age in a GI uniform would not want a vest most days in those hot climates. Or at least that's my guess.

When l worked for a funeral home l always wore a vest. And suspenders. Two reasons. With my build l have problems with shirt tails. Vests and suspenders really control them. Second was in colder weather every little bit helps. On another note. Functional vests have never gone out of style. Buy functional l mean work bests meant to be worn on job sites.

We call them waistcoats in the UK (for us vests are maybe what you call singlets. Sleeveless garments worn under a shirt to help keep you warm) but I haven't stopped wearing them! I've just bought myself and my Dad Christmas themed waistcoats that have matching ties and pocket squares. We'll rock them on Christmas Day. A fun way to bring a bit of style to the holidays - I'm tired of T-shirts and jeans!

My shoes and boots are well polished and it compliments my coat, suit, and my fedora. Some have called me a man out of time...which is fine with me and my lady.

2:06 it’s pronounced “vir-isle” as in virile (having strength, energy, and a strong sex drive (typically used of a man). "he was a powerful, virile man"). Not Viral as in “of, relating to, or caused by a virus. a viral infection. 2. : quickly and widely spread or popularized especially by means of social media. a viral video.” So as well as being stylish try to be phonetically correct please.

Well, I am an old soul even though I was born in the late 80s. But my every day wear whenever I have to leave my house (minus shoveling snow and everything) is tie with dress shirt, vest, business pants, dress cowboy boots, and a long coat of some kind.( I own dusters, trench coats, and pea coats). I don't wear suit jackets because I am not a fan of them, and my long coats cover that bit up since I prefer the profile of a long coat more. I just like looking professional whenever I am out and about, so for me, the vest has never gone away. lolz
