But what I really did not remember at all was Colin Firth. This is amazing. He's so young! But his voice hasn't changed. Dreamy then, dreamy now.

I remember young Colin being hot and grown up Colin being ugly. Lol. From the eyes of my 10 year old self. The 1993 version came out when I was ten, which mum dad took me to see, and shortly after my mum found a copy of the 1987 version at a thrift shop. Had no memory of it being Colin firth but that’s because Colin firth wasn’t yet a household name. Why would I connect the memory of that movie to the hot guy oil Bridget jones diary when my memory of grown up Colin craven was an ugly actor? Lol

For those complaining about how they don’t fall in love in the original storybook, this little ending bit is part of a frame story for the movie. While the original book is a children’s book, this movie adaption is a little bit more mature, and the secret garden storyline is told as a flashback that Mary is remembering as she comes home to the garden after being away with the Red Cross in WW1. The child’s book ending is the scene right before all this. Don’t know why ppl insist on coming to a video about a movie just so they can complain about it in comparison.
@Xdeadxdollyx879 жыл бұрын
Some of you commenting are just too dense for words. Colin/Mary is the much more realistic pairing. Not only was it quite common for cousins to wed at that time but her situation would never have allowed her to marry someone of Dickon's station. It never addressed anything but friendship between any of the children in the book anyway so you can't even claim she preferred Dickon.

@Terras1fan It may interest you to know that in this particular version of the movie, Colin and Mary are not related. The family had connections and Colin's grandfather and Mary's Grandfather were dear friends, so younger Mr. Craven, Colin's father, felt obliged to give the girl a home. In every version of the movie, at least a few circumstances have changed. The 70's version is the most faithful.
@s_janna82892 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen this old version, however I am very disappointed. Colin here looks like a captain or someone like that, while in the book he was strongly insisting that he was gonna be a scientist, which so very much fitted that character!

Mmmm young Colin Firth. He's lovely. Even though everybody knows that Mary belongs with Dickon. To all you people who are grossed out by the cousins thing: please get some historical perspective. You can't judge historical novels by modern standards. In that time (mid 1800's) marrying your cousin was not only accepted, it was encourged. No doubt Lord Craven would have encouraged Mary and Colin to get married, because it would keep the money in the family.

@forevergreenning Actually, in this version they weren't cousins. In the book and all other movie versions yes, but in this they say at the beginning that Mary and Colin's mothers were best friends so Mr. Craven was like her godfather or something. Hallmark threw that little bit into it because they worried about complaints from viewers over having the first cousins marry, even through it was a normal practice in that time.
@greenapple060813 жыл бұрын

Dickon was representing the values that led her through the discovering, 'flourishing' and taking care of her garden... He was reminding her of something that she longed for and was fascinated by before her arrival to England. And he had an open, gentle soul; something opposite to what Colin was hurt n imprisoned by: his family n origin. Dickon was meant for her, they've been bound together...
