That Dropped D tuning gives the song a Drone Sound resembling Bagpipes ... Very Haunting.

@@theselector4733 google for the song chords then drop d tuning. He's playing mostly in majors but if you try to play a full G chord, the low E is biatch to reach.

Actually, I think this is in open D tuning, not drop D. If it was, he wouldn’t be playing the the open top strings, to play the D. I might be wrong of course. 😁 Have a good one.

We saw Colin's "one man show" at a local theater where big name acts perform but not always sell out. The tickets flew out of the box and we missed getting our typical floor seats. The place was packed. Wow what a show! It was just like (along with the other 1800 people) were sitting in our living room watching and listening to a master story teller who would every so often play a song. Mr. Hay connects with an audience like he knows every one of them. I don't recall ever seeing such an intimate and enjoyable show. We very much look forward to seeing him again. This video is so reminiscent of that show. A story followed by a song followed by a story by a song for two hours.

I had the same experience seeing him live a few years ago--it was absolutely a magnificent evening. He's completely in a league of his own; a master craftsman and storyteller. He commands the space with such a powerful, peaceful energy. So glad I was able to experience his work in person.

Yeah. Saw him last night at the beautiful Majestic theater in Dallas (celebrating its 100th year). I don't know how many concerts we've been to (way too many to count) and this was easily top 3, maybe the best. His musicianship and true wisdom in crafting lyrics - not just "story telling" - continue to mature and improve every year. Colin Hay is truly a Scottish / Australian / AMERICAN treasure. And even though we had to wait for over 2 years after purchasing the tickets until the concert finally happened, I can say it was well worth the wait and that we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and will take advantage of every opportunity to see him again in the future!

This was the first Beatles song I ever know for sure... My Dad and my uncle used to play this song in a duet with them, two guitars and some microphones, in between covers of Bill Monroe and Hank Williams Sr. Kind of a weird intermission. I now know that's a bit weird, but they LOVED to play this song. So that was my first real memories of the Beatles. I was so young I didn't know who the Beatles were at the time, but I'll always love this song more than other Beatles songs. My dad was around 18 when the Beatles broke, but he had a whole library of vinyl that I later discovered.

I first heard this song at 18 years old on a mono cassette tape that I purchased in La Paz Mexico. It was night time and I was homeless: no money for a hotel, no friends, just there overnight to catch a bus south in the morning. It was an impressionable moment, I slept on the top of a hill just inside a fence after feeling too exposed trying to sleep on a park bench. Woke up feeling very happy to be alive, and after going the wrong way for quite some time I finally found my bus.
