Yeah yeah it used to be Van Morrison's song, but I like Colin James' version so much more than Morrison's.

Beautiful version. People on here seem to think it is an either/or. It's not. Van Morrison did a beautiful job with his creation. The question is not which one is better. The question is did Colin do justice to Van's work? I believe he did.

I saw Colin live in concert many years back here in Vancouver and I remember it as being one of the most energized and electric concerts I've ever seen. Still to this day. This dedication/ rendition of an already beautiful song was knocked out of the park. Neither is superior and yet both are literally, Superior.

...the beautiful thing is that any guitar player/musician can take a song and play it to their ability and create their own impression of the piece, usually in tribute to the original and very probably with great respect. People listening to the end product should not be so harsh as to decide who is better than the other; the value is in the treasure found...

There are a number of really good covers of this song: Colin James, Joe Cocker, Glen Hansard, the Allman Brothers and probably a few others that I don't know about. None, however, quite measure up to the original by Van.
@xplio213 жыл бұрын
Strongly disagree - does not have the same depth and passion as Morrison who originally wrote it for the time it was written. It's good just not something that would make me listen to it over and over. the main part - I don't wanna feel it and IIIIIII wanna rock your gypsy soul part - does not have the same range, depth or passion as the original. Sorry Van's original still the best EVER

Yes, clearly. Because he has to like the same music as you do, and absolutely nothing else. I prefer this version because I grew up listening to the Black Crowes (and this song has a distinctly BC feeling to it) and I can dig the island sound it has. It does not, in any way, sound like a "Bubble-gum pop song" "I personally think" Does this statement mean nothing to you? Opinions will always differ, and no opinion will ever be "right".
@pooperpuppie112 жыл бұрын
Lamporre - clearly you have no ability to assess singing talent - this guy is totally amateurish in his cover and has none of the "soul" that VM sings with which is crucial to this song. "Your" guy turned it into "Poppy" song on the verge of being "Bubble-gum" pop song (shame on him) - whereas VM made it a "classic". Keep your "Day Job" my friend.
