I just watched this Brer Rabbit movie when it was uploaded about a week ago and I quite enjoyed it. I thought that the song during the credits was quite catchy.

Well, no matter the actual payment of the animators, it was distributed farely wide, since I had it fully dubbed on VHS in Germany. And it was probably the first Christmal Carol I ever watched, even before the Muppet-version, and for what it's worth I watched it several times, not knowing its cultural context or that there were even more stories about it. Sad to hear that it had such a troubled history, though.

Interesting, in the comics, disney’s big bad wolf from the three little pigs is also Brer Wolf. They’ll call him that, or Zeke, his first name. It is definitely the same character, because he looks the same and is also depicted always as Li’l Bad Wolf’s father, though he has three truly bad sons in the cartoons. Always thought of lil bad as a later, younger son. He’s sort of a Casper type character and is actually a nice guy and friends with the pigs. But yeah, point is, I’ve read Brer Rabbit Disney comics that has lil bad wolf and zeke. And zeke was called Brer wolf by Brer Bear and Fox.

it's really ironic that a cartoon short about a bad fox scamming his employees out of their home ended up being made by a studio scamming their employees out of their paychecks

I actually enjoyed that one It's mostly in the camp of so cheesy/corny it's funny to watch like say Noel, The Moo Family Holiday Hoe-Down and the Perennial Pictures produced christmas specials
