The "Upright" puppets from Song of the Cloud Forest scared the hell out of me as a kid too! Now I adore them. They were made by a Muppet builder named Jitka Exler, and they're very much of a piece with another group of characters she worked on called "The Primitives."

Mickey’s Nightmare version of the Disney Channel Bumper looks almost like a parody of one of my formerly unspoken childhood fears, scary logos. Those were so uncanny, and often loud, it makes me glare at any logos for the internal trauma they inadvertently developed!

I'm glad ice skating shows like the Flintstones don't use creepy masks anymore if the character doesn't need it, they'll just put the skater in a wig and makeup now. I saw a Disney on Ice show when I was a kid and only characters like Mickey and Minnie wore full body suits. I can't think of anything scaring me as a kid but I remember loving the Tower of Terror movie and Erie, Indiana was one of my favorite shows. I remember the dead lady from the Grudge scaring the crap outta me when I was a teenager.

I remember seeing that "Fraggle Rock" episode with the secret society on VHS as a kid. And speaking of something spooky, it came with the episode where the main fraggles explored the Gorgs' castle on a stormy night and they teamed up with Junior Gorg to stop a cloaked intruder (which was actually Junior's dad checking on his son guarding their house and crown jewel). I even remember once having a dream as a kid based on that episode, if only for the cloaked figure.

The scariest episode of Fraggle Rock for me was Boober and The Glob, where a mysterious Glob rolls around eating Doozers, the scary part is that we have no idea where the Glob came from and we see the inside of it's stomach

Really odd things scared me when I was a kid. I hated bugs, but mostly grew out of that. I HATED large plastic/rubber bugs, spiders especially. There's something grotesque about a tiny little insects delicate features distorted and blown up, and made abstract. I was always afraid that dollar stores would have giant spider "toys," as they were somehow a staple.

Great video, Colin. Very cool grab bag. 😎👍 I don't find clowns scary, but don't blame you for finding that old Bozo pilot creepy, I've seen a Mcdonald's commercial from the 50's and the kid is like "I shouldn't talk to strangers" and Ronald Mcdonald using his magic to make Mcdonalds appear, and the kid is like "wow, you really are Ronald Mcdonald". It really was a different time, some programs from that era screams stranger danger. I love Fraggle Rock, I remember the opening when Junior grabs Gobo creeped me out when I was little, just being grabbed by a big hairy giant. When I saw Gobo running towards the camera, I knew the gorgs were coming up... I also prefer to have Fraggle Rock to have their creepy moments and not always be safe. And thank you for recommending The Song of The Cloud Forest. I watched it last night for the first time. I've seen Monster Maker, but I really need to watch the Jim Henson Hour and The Storyteller. Love Jim's work. Looking forward to more. Keep up the good work.

Interesting video I have to say on the topic of fears from our childhood and that’s a little difficult for me. Sure, I was scared of things that look weird. But we all are who isn’t I have to think about what really scared me when I was younger definitely some of the Disney dark rides. Those did frighten me mainly Mr. toad Roger rabbit and Snow White from what my mom has told me she recounted event when me and my younger sister went on and when we came out, me and my sister were tearing up. I also remember being really unesay about a KCET character known as captain infinity I guess it was because of the crude CGI that I used to fear the character voice they had and the fact that sometimes they would appear close to the screen I really felt uneasy with that yeah. And what else? Oh yeah, I do remember having a lot of strange nightmares about certain shows I have watched during the day and then just appearing different looking back at them. I don’t think I would be that scared anymore of those the nightmares I had were something.

I remember Real Scary Stories. I ended up getting a book from the library that I thought was based on the show. It kinda looked like a journal and had a really cool sleeve with a bunch of tape and fake documents printed on it. Talked about some amatuer ghost hunting buddies tracking something down and finding an old victorian house in the middle of the woods. There was one page where they saw a shadow in the house that moved. That was the terrifying part to lil kid me. Not being attacked by a monster, as a kid I thought I'd be fine with facing a serial killer of a ghost. But something in a seemingly abandoned house scared me. Good memories.

They have a character named Nancy getting a nightmare about the undead. Ya know, at least when this happened in Friday the 13th: Part VI, it was just a coincidence because the director wanted a character named after his wife. But here, I'm surprised they used the Halloween theme and not the Elm Street theme.
