I tried quilting doing it with all the rules. I did enjoy it only to a point. THEN I discovered crazy quilting, and art quilts, and collage quilts, and BOY did I enjoy it then! I am also not a rule follower, to my mother's dismay! Thank you for the video!

Hi Julia, I have many pieces of fabric that are exactly like yours, including the bright flowers that you used in the corners of your piece. I love the idea of a table centerpiece and am thinking of presents for some of my family for next year. I've used some of my fall pieces of fabric to make masks for family and whoever I notice could use one. Thanks, as usual, for all your wonderful ideas. No snow on the ground here...but lots of leaves to rake. :-) Wishing all a healthy holiday season. Wear a mask, practice social distancing and keep that hand sanitizer handy so we can all continue to enjoy your wonderful ideas.

I smiled as I listen your description of yourself. I am a quilter too, but I struggle with patterns and rules that say "sew a scant 1/4"" Oh, Please!!!! I've only been 'quilting' for about 5 years and I have a 5' Babylock Coronet. Her name is Patience...and she requires it constantly. But my passion is fabric art! Somehow it feeds my soul. You mention Procreate app on an iPad. I went to the App store....and there are about 26 different ones. Which one? This KZbin is over 2 years....hopefully you can see this.
@stitchesbyjulia Жыл бұрын
Patience is a great name for a sewing machine! I laughed at that one. Fabric art is my passion too- so much fun and no rules! The Procreate app has a subtitle called "Sketch, paint, create." The button is black with a multicolored leaf shape in the center. I still use this app all the time. I watched KZbin videos to learn the ins and outs of it but it's pretty easy. Let me know if you have any other questions. Julia

Hi Julia, Great to see what you have produced from your leaf sketch! I was so grateful to see your clear explanation of how to turn a photo into sketch, using ProCreate and I’ve been practicing. I am now in the process of doing a portrait collage and I’ve printed my sketch on an A4 sheet of paper. Now.... how do I enlarge that so that it is four times larger (4 sheets of paper)? I would so appreciate instructions if you are able to tell me! Thank you! Caroline (Spain)

On your background, did you decorative stitch on every seam of background pieces? This tutorial is just what I have been looking for years on how to do a collage background. Can't thank you enough.
@stitchesbyjulia4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebecca, Thank you so much for watching. I am so glad you found the video inspirational. I did not do a decorative stitch on every seam. Some of the seams I just did a back and forth free-motion stitch. I tried to vary between the decorative stitching and free -motion stitching to make it interesting. I hope this helps. Julia

That turned out so pretty! Is there a difference between steam a seam 2 and heat and Bond light?
@stitchesbyjulia4 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie, I didn't find much difference in the "feel" of the appliqués . I know some say that the Heat-n-bond Lite stiffens the fabric more than the steam-a-seam. I really didn't notice much difference. The biggest advantage with steam-a-seam is the tackiness. It acts like a Post-it note and can be easily moved around. Once you like the arrangement it can be permanently ironed. With that said, the biggest difference is the price. The Steam-a seam is approximately 4x the price.

Does the needle get glue on it when topstitching?
@stitchesbyjulia3 жыл бұрын
No. The only iron-on adhesive that I have had trouble with is Heat-n-Bond Heavy. It is only for non -sewing. Thanks for watching, Julia
@Kinrossboyd4 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you use the steam n heat on the leaves?
@stitchesbyjulia4 жыл бұрын
Hi, You certainly could use the steam a seam on the leaves. I chose not to because it does add more stiffness to your quilt. I knew the exact placement of the leaves so it was easy to use the glue. With the flower embellishments, I used the steam a seam because it acts as a post-it note and I could move them around until I got the arrangement that I liked. There are not set rules. Do what works best for you. Thanks for watching, Julia

Love you and this project , but there are simply too many interruptions with commercials. I hand stitch while watching KZbin and if I have to stop and start constantly, it is frustrating. Sorry.
@stitchesbyjulia4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. My videos are usually not this long and I had no idea that KZbin put that many ads on it. I was able to eliminate all but two. Please know that I can not remove all the ads because that is the only way I get paid for all the time and effort that goes into it. You can also sign up for KZbin Red and for a small monthly fee can watch all videos without ads. Creators still get a small percent of the KZbin Red views. Thanks again! Julia
@Chris_Yoo__AsTheYooFlies4 жыл бұрын
@@stitchesbyjulia No worries. I understand that creators get money from the commercials and I am absolutely OK with that. But $12 a month for KZbin is not a small fee for some of us.😉 I don’t mind commercials at the beginning and end and maybe one in the middle but sometimes I will get a commercial every 60 seconds. When that happens I can’t watch.

Wow, I really love how your leaves came out. I think each step really added depth to them. I felt exactly the same way as you when I started quilting, like were all these rules really necessary? For a while all I did was rag quilting because it's very forgiving as far as measurements and also stitching not in a straight line! Remember you did a video on fabric postcards? Well, I make fabric postcards but I pack a lot into them and call them my "art quilts." Check them out in my shop in my art quilt section and see what you think. Maybe you could do a tiny art quilt! cocoanap.etsy.com
