It's called wacky cake, chocolate and homemade chocolate icing. She recently passed July 30, and I certainly miss her especially on my birthday 2 months later

I never knew the cornstarch trick. Thank you for sharing that tidbit of info. As for a cake , my mom doesn't bake me a cake but my son always makes sure I have one from the deli at our local grocery store. The last cake my Momma made me was a Pecan Raisin Layer Cake. It was a recipe her Momma used to make. You have to grind the raisins and pecans together and mix with 7 minute frosting then put that between the yellow cake layers ending on very top then ice the outside of cake with either 7 minute frosting or cream cheese frosting…oh how i miss my Momma..❤

My mom made me ice cream cake. She'd take a white cake mix and make a sheet cake, take it from the pan onto a cookie sheet, freeze it for an hour, then butter the top of cake with raspberry jam, then cut a square gallon of any flavor ice cream, I liked strawberry or vanilla, and divide it to fit the cake. Put back in the freezer to harden up then take whip cream and frost the whole cake, garnish with strawberries, blue berries, etc. Back into the freezer, the cake does not freeze, just stays cold for the ice cream. Sooo good.

@@brendafoster4712 She would open the ice cream carton, cut the ice cream into, I think four chunks, put the big pieces over top of cake, cut what's left in half to finish what is still uncovered. It's really quite a pretty cake too when garnished.

my son turned 37yrs old September 2nd back then it was labor day I was in labor on that day. He wanted peach cobbler I made him from a 100yr old recipe except I added a pinch of nutmeg and cinnamon yummy 😋

My “Aunt Wezee” (Louise) always made my birthday cake. It was a from-scratch yellow cake with bananas between the layers and a white 7-minute icing. Then the whole big family would gather (mom, dad, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents), and the cake was usually served with homemade fruit sherbert churned in the old crank ice-cream freezer! Yummy!!😋

What wonderful memories...my grandpa had a hand-crank ice-cream maker and always got everything to make homemade ice cream at gatherings and all of us grandkids would do all the cranking...sometimes the younger ones couldn't do it for too long as their little arms were hurting too much...good fun and wonderful memories!

My favorite dessert! When I was little, my Daddy would bring home those sponge cake shells, frozen strawberries in heavy syrup, and the spray whipped cream. He knew it was my favorite treat! Thanks for bringing back those memories, Tammy!

That is one beautiful cake Tammy!! My favorite cake has always been strawberry shortcake & the one my mom made, she would poke holes in it & let the juice soak into the cake. It was wonderful & I have never been able to duplicate it (she died when I was 23), but yours looks very similar. Thank you Tammy 😊

When l was a little girl my mom would make a princess cake for my Birthday. This was before they made the pans etc.. she would put a Barbie doll from the waist up ontop and criss cross a ribbon over her breasts then she made a beautiful dress out of cake and frosting. I'm 65 . So, this was a little while ago. Lol Your strawberry shortcake looks delish! I am going to make one now.

Home made biscuits make the best shortcake, nice birthday cake. I like to do individual ones, so I can heat them up and then top the same way you do. I like to stabilize with instant clearjel (NOT cook type) mix 1 tablespoon with 1/4 cup sugar, for 2 cups heavy, more sugar if you like it sweeter. I can't believe how long it stays in the container, really good at 3 days.

My birthday and those of my siblings (we are 5) has never been celebrated. I never had a birthday cake nor any present or surprise. We never had pocket money, but we regularly have been beaten, controlled, corrected, criticized and much more. it took many years and a lot of suffering to understand what is normalcy... both my parents have passed. Humanly speaking I have lost everything in my life, but spiritually speaking I HAVE WON EVERYTHING... Jesus Christ is my Savior, my Lord and MY LIFE. I am 69.

My Mom passed away, but as a little kid I made a pie pan of green jello and I put canned pear halves in, cut side up and I put a cherry in each depression in the pear. It was really good. When I got older I made a from scratch chocolate sheet cake that was so moist and good. I never even iced it, it was so moist. It had cocoa in it. It was good, too. I learned as a kid if you wanted a certain food you learned how to make it yourself. My aunt taught me simple jello and my other aunt had that chocolate cake recipe. I learned to steal recipes from good cooks!

Beautiful cake! Love strawberries! My mom passed when I was 15, but we all used to get a Champagne Cake with whipped cream frosting! The Buttercream Bakery in Napa, Calif. it's still open! Hello Tammy & Chris... When I was little, my birthday being in July, would have my Mother buy a long watermelon. She would cut a long watermelon down the center and stick birthday candles in it. She served it with ice cream and not were those watermelon "cakes" delicious 😋

Cornstarch you said tsp. Recipe shows Tbsp. Which is correct.

I know this is sort of off topic, but I've noticed home baked breads and biscuits have kind of a raw flour taste to them (as compared to store bought). What would happen if you toasted or cooked your flour in the oven or on the stove for a bit first before baking with it? Maybe something to try in another video if you haven't done it before. But I'm curious as the the flavor difference it could make
