Its getting close to the start of calving so I really need to get the Tru-test collars on the heifers. I've been putting it off a bit but the weathers fine and I've got help so that's todays job

Full and speedy recovery, fingers crossed it's not gonna be to bad for your younger family members, where they to catch it as well.

Andrew, keep off the whiskey mate, what you need is ! Rum, green ginger and honey. Heat it up in the microwave and I find its bloody good for most flu and cold ailments.not to bad Enron without the flu or cold but leave the honey out. Hope calving gose well for you and the weather treats you well. Cheers

haha I might give that a go, I quite like a rum so can't hurt.

Get well soon.😊 Great to see you roped your Mum in to help with the collar pairing. Wiil the collars help with notifications about imminent calving ?
@TheOnceADayFarmer16 күн бұрын
She was really helpful, way faster with a 3rd person. Not quite yet, the heifers come through as a heat but they are working on a calving notification which will be really handy once its out, maybe next season?

Andrew, I thought mobs were sheep and kangaroos, cows are in herds. Or am I just a picky bugger lol, Get better soon, Cheers, Mark
@NZFarmboy80Ай бұрын
Technically you're right, we split our cows up into different mobs, after calving we've got one herd

Andrew is it now needed to give mag to the heifers back in my day we didnt
@TheOnceADayFarmer29 күн бұрын
I do, but heifers don't seem to get milk fever very often so can see why you didn't

Do the collars chafe their necks or cause any sores. What are they made from.
@TheOnceADayFarmer27 күн бұрын
the olds ones did chafe a bit but the new ones don't seem to be as bad. Im not real sure what it is, or what you would call it sorry. its just a hard wearing material

👀🙄🐾👍Andy have you looked at magnesium boluses? Do you think Fonterra will lower the milk price with the auction fall?
@TheOnceADayFarmer27 күн бұрын
Nah, not to keen on them, just easier to dust and they drench once calved. not a bad idea though. They ket the price on the lower side so I guess they could see it coming a little bit. I think its better if they start the new season on the conservative side

Did you get your early calver sorted with her mastitis issue? It would be interesting to see the data from the first day you put the collars on the heifers. LOL
@TheOnceADayFarmer29 күн бұрын
