Collect For PS3 While You Can (CHEAP GAMES)

7th gen in general has been creeping up in price while simultaneously decreasing in availability for the last few years. I began building PS3 and 360 libraries 4 years ago, and I couldn't afford my collection at current prices if I had to buy them again. To me, that generation was the last that struck a perfect balance between graphical beauty and quality single player experiences.

Completely agree, 7th gen was that sweet spot of online play, graphics, and great single player games. It’s also nice to pop a game in an be able to play immediately unlike a lot of newer games

@@garrettwood6271 So I am a HUGE Metal Gear Solid fan. My whole game room is centered around Metal Gear. Metal Gear Solid 4 I think is a masterpiece. But some lesser known gems I'd recommend: one is Singularity, it's an amazing game with multiple endings and tons of replay value and it's really a fun game with a great story. Another I'd recommend is Nier. Again I think it's a masterpiece. One last one I really enjoyed is Vanquish

@@FranchisePlayyer Metal Gear Solid is absolutely my favorite. More specifically Metal Gear Solid 4. It's a perfect game in my opinion. Simply flawless. At the moment my most valuable is a sealed copy of the worst RPG ever called Magus. Which is the worst game on PS3 lol. So bad in fact they made a limited quantity of them and is kind of rare. A few more PS3 games I think everyone should play are Singularity, Vanquish, The Saboteur, Alpha Protocol

Super-nerd here; the internal resolution of MGS4 is a whopping 1024x768 (4:3) and then it's upscaled to 1080p. The PS3 didn't have a hardware upscaler so this would've been done in software. Incredibly impressive. Great vid!

For me Beyond 2 Souls was the game that impresses me the most when I go back to my ps3 and definitely is the game I would say pushed the ps3 to its limits. I fired it up yesterday. Even now the graphics look like they were last gen. For a ps3 game it looks like it could be ps4. Heavy Rain doesn't hold up as well even on my 24 inch HD PlayStation simulview monitor but Beyond 2 souls I found myself just looking at the graphics and smiling whilst little Jodie was wondering around her house and sitting on her couch behaving like a real child, down to her mannerisms. The mocap was insane!

I think Alice Madness Returns will blow up in price after the store closes. Of course, Puppeteer, Lollipop Chainsaw, 3D Dot Heroes and Folklore will come back up again as well. So many cool games on the PS3. It's a bit sad we should have gotten more games on the Sly Cooper series!

Don't forget the PS3 era had full game "collections" games. I just picked up the Action Trilogy with Tombraider, Sleeping Dogs and Just Cause 2. There's a ton of these collections: Mass Effect Trilogy, Stealth Trilogy, Silent Hill collection, MGS collection, Tombraider Trilogy, 2 types of Assassins Creed trilogies, and on and on. Great value, still cheap even tho they're not common.

Do not buy the HD Collections they have all Glitches and Bugs. The only good collections without technical problems are the metal Gear God of War and shadow of the Colossus collection. Jak and Daxter is also pretty good but it has the punch glitch Sly Cooper has changed cut scenes and artwork

I agree, if I was only able to have one console out of my collection it would be my 500GB super slim ps3 that I bought a couple of weeks ago. I have so many games for it that are locked to that console and games I was still able to download from the psn store all these years later. Blu-ray movies look amazing on it and for the first time I didn't have to worry about storage. I can have my entire ps3 game library installed on the internal storage's game utility data folder and continue my game saves I made back in 2011 that I was able to download to my system because of the ps cloud storage.

Yep. The PS1 and PS2 had already crossed the nostalgia gap and the ps3 will soon hit that mark in the next couple of years so any chance of finding the games you want at a cheap price this is your window. Hell even the rare games like Splatterhouse, 3d dot, puppeter and folklore have not crossed the 100 dollar mark not yet but will soon. The real kicker is finding the sets that have the full DLC's Those are the ones people will need to get as they would be the highest in demand, that and the trilogy and combo game sets. Out of the games you mentioned. I def still need to get the Motorstorm Games. Infamous one and two, Grant Turismo 5, Twisted Metal and MGS4 but the rest i already got and a cheap price. 2 more years man till the 20th mark than things will go crazy high.

Yeah even the more expensive titles have yet to break 100 bucks but like you said they will soon. Collecting for ps4 is also a great option at the moment Yeah luckily those games are all pretty cheap. Once soft modded the PS3 is such a great system. Prices for physical media are still reasonable but finding decent controllers to play them is a problem now. So many fakes or totally worn out secondhand ones.

I recently put together a collection of almost 100 games for the PS3 and paid between 5-10€ for the vast majority of them, I think the most I paid was 15€ for Demon's Souls and also The Darkness which I had to import. The PS4 is almost as cheap too - so many good games for around 10€ - a huge amount if you go into the 10-20€ range.

@@FranchisePlayyerI never truly loved motion controls but when it was done right like in Wii Sports Resort it was amazing. I legitimately think that it’s one of the greatest games ever made. The table tennis in particular was my favourite haha. Btw on Sleeping Dogs glad u show it the love it deserves. Legendary game, I wish it got a sequel but in a way I’m okay if this is its legacy. Me and my buddy hyped the shit outta this game leading up and it still far exceeded both of our expectations.

Some of my favorite PS3 games are: GTA IV, GTA V, all 3 Resistance games, Infamous, MGS4, there are way too many to list! Yeah, PS3 games are really cheap. I bought a super slim PS3 and some games for the very first time a couple of years ago, during that generation of consoles my brother and I had a 360, so I never really played any PS3 games until then. Now I have around 70 PS3 games, spent around 5 to 15 bucks each for most of them, the most expensive PS3 game I have purchased so far is The Orange Box but I didn't mind spending more for that one because its basically like 3 games (and 2 full DLCs) in 1

@@FranchisePlayyer You never know. Persona 1 on the PS1 is roughly 500$ for a good copy, while on the PSP it's a little over 100$. Persona 3 FES is about the same amount for a new copy of Reload, while the PSP version (original release P3P) is twice the amount. Not saying it'll go up super quick or soon. It is still a late PS3 game AND there are a LOT of copies still floating about. But, give it some time, and even a heavy hitting seller like that will go up. Mind you, if you have a PS4, then just get Royal, but the novelty of the game on PS3 (being practically the ONLY Persona game on the PS3, if you don't count P4: Ultimax or Catherine) is still there.

​@@FranchisePlayyerit's been a while since I've played them. They are all worth it IMO. The 3rd one uses the ps move gun accessory mentioned in the killzone 3 mention. They were really pushing it at the time with best buying having the gun and game bundle. There are also 2 handheld games as well. One for vita and PSP but haven't played those yet. It's graphics were the same mud brown as the other popular games came out at the time since gears of war release. But it weapons designs do stand out.

Finding decent PS3 controllers is proving to be difficult. There are tons of fakes out there. I bought a really cheap one that I knew was a fake and while it does work, the input delay is horrible that I couldn't imagine playing anything that required fast reactions or precision

The PS3 is my favorite console too, man! It was also a more consumer friendly console than the PS4 and PS5. I’ve been importing music CD’s onto the PS3 then transferring them over to my PSP GO. The first one was very fun as well even if it had a top down camera. I played it a good amount on Vita. Helldivers might be one of the last Vita multiplayer games as of right now. It also was one of the few true crossbuy titles…..one purchase gets you the ps3, ps4, and Vita versions. I feel you dude haha. Same here. Not picking up much as of right now since I have too much to play. Highly recommend Helldivers 2 and Alan wake 2!

I have a backwards compatible PS3 and I put a 1tb hardrive inside. It is my favorite console in the house. I would say don't collect PS1 games. Just buy them off the PS3 Store. You should definitely take a look at the PS2 and PS1 digital library on the PS3 Store bro. All the ps3 collection triolgys are $10-15 ratchet and clank, jak and Daxter, sly cooper , god of war orgins and regular etc. But the biggest thing is the classics. I got Fatal Frame 1,2,3 which are really expensive $100 ps2 games for 10 bucks each. And the PS1 games have a bunch of expensive physical games such as silent hill, devil summoner, wild arms etc.

I gotta say skate 2. only way to play it is on ps3 and 360, it's not backward comf. with the new xbox and a lot of older games won't never be ported to the new consoles or get remakes because of music rights etc, like need for speed carbon on ps2/ps3 aswell

I love ps3 era games and tried to collect them, but sold everything, because I don't want to collect disks for the already dead system. My ps3 was broken and I didn't wanted to buy another used one, we cannot buy a new PS3 to play, only used and many of them are not in perfect condition. I collect ps4, because we can use it on ps5 as well. Switch is also relevant and probably there will backward compatibility in Switch 2 (I hope).

You can use XP to purchase skills to strip enemies of their shields or weapons mid-combo, or you can just pick up the weapons of enemies you've slain, OR if youre really in a mood you can pick a torch off the wall and light enemies on fire XD

I’ve been collecting for the ps3 big time for the last couple of years. I have my original fat ps3 backwards compatible with my original games such as GTA 4 and 5 but have a slim and super slim to game on too. The fat is too loud and needs preservation. The super slim will be the console to collect as people didn’t like it. If people don’t like stuff that’s the stuff to collect 😂 I have about 500 ps3 games now but I’m collecting really cheap games at 50p because that stuff will be all in the bin as no one wants it. Again if it’s seen as shit,collect it. I also have the big hitters such as Yakusa dead souls. Splatterhouse. Etc. Spread your collection. But the main thing is. Collect 👍

Might be a generational thing (all due respect 🙏) but the PS3 sits in a really murky area imo. Although i agree that, in its time, it was great (and still is btw) when the PS4 came along it created all those 4k, 60fps re-releases of some of the PS3's greats which slighted it a bit (Uncharted, Last Of Us, Sleeping Dogs, DmC - and so on). The issue the PS3 faced was being Sonys first entry into the "HD" age where there became a massive reliance on resolutions, textures, 720p, 1080p, only really ever running at a sub-par 30fps, mandatory online gaming, DLC, PSN and so on. And, I feel all the shortfalls they experienced with PS3 then helped super-power the PS4. As, even on release, PS3 (and 360) were not exactly on the level in terms of power/expectation. Like you say, its great for its PS-exclusives that never went over to PS4 or 5 (MotorStorms, Shadows of the Damned, Killer is Dead, Infamous', KZ3, Resistance 3, MGS4 etc) but the other titles you mentioned can be had cheap on PS4 too nowadays. Also, would always recommend GT6 > 5. 5 was not great I'm afraid. Loving the passion for the PS3 here though ❤

Yeah me liking ps3 so much is definitely a generational thing, it was the console I played a lot in my teen years so there is nostalgia there But totally agree with you, Sony learned a lot about their mistakes with ps3 and that helped make the ps4 such a huge success (also Xbox one dropping the ball helped lol).

I am that guy. You know that guy. They guy that is ALWAYS late to anything new. PS2? Pfffft. Got it in 2009 only. PS3? Pfffft...got it 4 months before PS4 released. PS4? Got it the day RDR2 released. PS5? Still dont have it. But...The day Sony announced downscaling their server activity for PS3 in general...THAT was the day I started collecting physical media for PS3. At first slowly, and really ramped it up the last 3 months. I now have a mere 60 games in my PS2 collection, BUT... 165 games in my PS3 collection. At ther same time I realized that PS4 may follow the route of PS3 reasonably soon, so I currently have around 80 PS4 games in the collection as well. With more to come. I am estimating having 100 PS4, 85 PS2 and 210 PS3 games by end of April 2024.

@Franchiseplayyer Its the usual suspects. RDR, Last of Us, Killzone 2 and 3, all the Batman and Bioshock games, GTA titles, Gran Turismo titles...the list is endless. Where my tastes start to take a detour from the norm is the sports titles I loved on the system, like Jonah Lomu Rugby and Don Bradman Cricket 14. Add in some Tiger Woods golf goodness as well. The tricky thing is to try and find the games I loved that I could only play from digital downloads. Like Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. Still searching for viable physical media of that game...as well as Ducktales Remastered.

PS3 was pretty good but 360 crushes it in every way. You can just put any game into the 360 and it'll start playing, no making room on you 60 gig HDD. also all my PS3 controllers have bad batteries or need to be charged. The 360 you just swap in new batteries and your ready to play. 360 had the better games and everything ran better on it. PS3 was still good but it was no Xbox 360.

@@FranchisePlayyer So I'm the direct opposite. 360 Being on a regular DVD means it can read a 9.4 GB DVD at 12x or 16.5 MBPS with the option to install it to the HDD. PS3 has a 75 GB blu-ray at 2x speed or 8.5MBPS means everything has to be installed because the read speed is so slow.

Dude, I just fired up my PS3 Super Slim and setting my 4K TV on Smooth Motion I don't have the old staggered frame rate so it ends up being very smooth. I'm not using my PS4 Pro anymore with its crappy WOKE games and I can't believe in 2024 I'm back to the PS3, maybe this will wake up the developers because when the money stops coming in they'll be sweating bullets.
