An announcement? He's been joking about Top Gear for months on this podcast so maybe now that the news is out he can make it official. He wouldn't be competing anymore so he can make regular car reviews with Chris Harris on Collecting Cars. 🚗

I've received my signed copy of Chris's book here in Australia to remain unopened to cherish and I ordered an unsigned copy to read. The issue being the signed copy arrived first and I couldn't help myself as now I'm about halfway through it 😅. It's absolutely brilliant! Grab yourself a copy but best to read it alone without the fear of your family thinking you've become bipolar as you swing from tears to laughter every few minutes through the pages.

It's worth stating the obvious here: Top Gear was a career for many folk and it reflects well on Mr Harris that he acknowledges the effort of the unsung heroes behind the cameras. Id like to think that other programmes / institutions are clamouring for their services and, as others have said, if we get a return to Chris Harris on Cars type content that would be very, very welcome! PS what happened to the Mondial?

2 Car Garage Idea The year is 1929, and you are a bigwig on the New York stock exchange. Years of investing have made you a very wealthy man, however, one night you have a dream about a stock market crash. Even though you don’t put stock in psychic dreams you are shaken up enough to sell everything, and urge your friends and colleagues to do the same, however they laugh in your face. 2 months later the stock market crashes. You are still very wealthy but your friends are not Ha Ha. To rub it in your mates faces you spend the next few years searching for two extravagant automobiles. One for town driving, the other (a Convertible) for use on the Cape of Cod where you own property. No budget, love the pod!

Chris Harris always gets the 2 car garage just right. Ben Collins has a manual 997 Turbo. You used to be able to order ceramics on a standard Porsche Carrera - now you can’t, and they’re reserved for GT3, RS and Turbo / S. Porsche actually have painted some calipers in the past for the Porsche family in different colours, but they won’t do it for customers.

Supply issues… they should come back in the future. When speccing my 981 Spyder a few years back I had the 918 buckets removed as they were being prioritised for the upcoming gt3 rs.

On Chapter 6 or Mr H's audio book and loving every minute! It's brought back so many memories of my childhood and, much like the podcast has confirmed that lifelong car entheisiasts are a very odd bunch but its comforting to be amongst like-minded folk! Next time I'm at my parents house i must see if my scrapbooks are in the loft. For many years i religiously cut out the motoring reviews of mostly tawdry four-wheeled crap and glued it to the A4 pages. There are probably 15 copies of The Observers Book of Cars too. I used to be pretty hot on those stats too you know. Scrutinising thee local paper resulted in my Dad buying a kingfisher blue VW Jetta 16v on an E and i bought my Lotus 7 replica from a small ad too. Congrats on a joyous listen Mr Harris!

Many many years ago I used to sell Renaults. One day a family arrived, by appointment, for a test drive. The lady of the house was interested in acquiring a new car, her first ever automatic. They had chosen our latest, top of the range Renault 16TX. Our demonstrator, a beautiful deep gold/brown metallic with plush cream interior. I reassured the customer that I would show her how to drive an automatic, it couldn’t be simpler. The test drive went very well. So well in fact that they had decided to buy this very car, our demonstrator, before the test drive had ended. We pulled into the storage compound and the lady was so excited she turned to get her husband’s reassurance, unfortunately we had yet to come to a full stop. I shouted brake and she hit the accelerator and piled into a very large metal post which stopped the car in an instant, writing off the car. At least she was able to choose a different colour on the new order for a 16TX.

To answer the question about Indy Car - it cost me and my son about $200 total for the entire Long Beach GP weekend, including good grandstand seats, and practice and qualifying, as well as the IMSA race with the new GTP cars. Pretty good value I’d say. In fact, kids are free if they don’t have a seat in the stands. Paddock access was another $100 I think? And it’s a great old school street course. Also we paid about $75 per ticket for the last NASCAR race at Fontana. Both races were well attended so not sure Chris is right that both series are struggling.

Excellent chaps! Ceramic brakes, particularly Porsche’s PCCB’s are mega - until you get stones trapped between the calliper and wheel barrel. The noise and subsequent damages is not fun. Moving on, agreed about the Las Vegas race. The TYV spectacle was less impressive visually than billed, but the racing turned out to be entertaining. More low grip tracks please…. Chris, well said about TG. It’s an institution that I have followed through its highs and lows for my whole life and whatever the reasons its sad for it to be ‘put on ice’. I realise H&S is serious matter, and I have no doubt the TG crew take such matters extremely importantly. But surely there is a way to continue? Importantly though, Freddie is recovering and I hope that he’s back doing TV etc soon enough. In the mean time let’s get stuck into some CC films and a bit of skidding! Good luck.
@memememine110 ай бұрын
The chipping from stones is a real worry for me. Where I live it rarely rains so the roads are always dusty and have small rocks on it. My old m3 would frequently get rocks stuck in the rear brake shield leaving the rock to bounce between it and the steel rotor untill I could take it out manually. I wonder how much much damage it would have caused if the rotors were carbon ceramic.
@wills255210 ай бұрын
A lot of heavy braking going on, I ran an F80 M3 for 3 years doing 90k miles and it was still on the original steel discs, having said that ceramics do make a car feel better to drive you can really tell how much lighter each corner is.

Two Car Garage Money no object. The budget is 1,500 kilograms. You are successful. You have a wife, two children (five and seven), a labrador, and you regularly embark on long journeys with the family to the countryside for long walks and hot bovril. Every month or so you also find time to attend the odd track day. You live your life vicariously through Gordon Murray CBE, i.e. you own a significant amount of lively shirts and you are excessive about weight saving in cars, to the extent that a car carrying excess and unnecessary weight is just careless and bad engineering. You require one car that will carry (legally, but not necessarily in comfort) the family (including the pooch) to their countryside adventures every other week. You also require a car to indulge your love of track days. Combined, these must weigh less than 1,500 kg. What are you having?

2 car garage question - Yourself & a good friend have £20k between you to buy 2 cars, which you’ll alternate use of every couple of weeks. Therefore both cars must be capable of being driven daily all year round, with just enough room for the weekly food shop. You also like the odd Trackday so if one of your cars is appropriate for track driving that is a bonus. You may divide up the £20,000 between the 2 cars however you like.
