Two car Garage Idea. You are incharge of a car company (Insert brand of your choosing here). You are relatively new to the brand and want to leave your everlasting mark on it like Ferdinand Piech and the Phaeton. You order the creation of two cars: a historic model from your makes past, and a new model that will thrust your brand into a new market that it does not compete in such as the Porsche Cayenne, or OG Mazda MX-5 Love the podcast, it’s become my automotive safe space.

Vauxhall’s were ok back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. My Dad had a Cavalier SRI 130 and that was quick back in the day. And then he upgraded to the Cavalier GSI2000 16v, 150bhp Red top and that was rapid for the time. As a kid, I saw an indicated 140 on the M40 while Dad was driving 💪🏼😂

Regarding Vauxhall. Around 18 years ago I separated from my ex wife and having moved out and left her with everything I was completely stone broke. I went to the local auction and bought a grey 1990 cavalier Sri for £150 (which tells you how it good it was) and it looked after for me for a couple years without me spending a penny on it. It sipped fuel, the 2 litre 8 valve had loads of torque, the fuel tank was rotten along the seam so I could only put £20 in at a time but somehow it just kept going. It did me alright and for that it's always had my respect.

For years I’ve struggled to comfortably drive (road) cars - either my legs are in the right place or my arms, but never both. Pedal and wheel adjustments rarely seem to move far enough. Any tips? Loved the discussion about Vauxhall. In Australia, Mitsubishi, Ford, Toyota and GM-Holden all shut their factories within a few years of one another, Holden the last in 2017. The reality is that our population couldn't sustain demand. Seven years later, Toyota remains a juggernaut, Mitsubishi has reinvented itself, Ford is somewhat of a minor player and Holden is no more. Of all these brands, Holden's loss is perhaps the most keenly felt. The final Commodore (including the wild HSV V8s sold in UK as Vauxhall) was a very good car and the loss of local car making means Australia has lost the basis of significant design, engineering and manufacturing skills. Perhaps more poignantly, we have lost cultural connections with Australia of the past. These factories provided jobs and security to thousands of families, including many immigrant families. What's worse is that Australia's Federal Government has retained stupid tax regimes that were intended to protect local manufacturing, so Australia still pays too much for quality engineering. In a decade, Australia's roads will be filled with Asian EVs made to a price and we will have surrendered yet another set of capabilities to other countries. You should care about Vauxhall, for all these reasons.

Hey, thanks so much for the laughs this year, collecting addicts! Love the chemistry and the incredible knowledge. Here's my request for the two-car garage… (asking for a friend, sorry not a relatable one for the masses😂) A 40-something family man with 2 pre-teen kids has just come into some money having sold his business. Setting aside £500k for a couple of cars, he is looking to upgrade the family wagon, and blow the budget on a weekend whip. For the family car - he wants something comfortable for growing and increasingly long-legged kids in the back, that can handle a trip down to the south of France, as much as the pootle to the school gates - quality, reliable and not too flashy. No Range Rovers, please! The second car needn't be practical. This is the weekend toy, something which will be great fun. Perhaps modern, perhaps a classic. Something that will at least hold it's money, if not appreciate in the years to come - this is 'the one', the prize for the years of work and stress in the business. Turning up at Goodwood there will be a few admiring glances; ‘if you know, you know'. Over to you, with thanks!

Citroen C6 is definitely on my list of crap cars I’d like to own/modify. If I could find a pre-March 2006 V6 3.0 (for the cheaper VED), I would slam it on air-ride with some custom rear arch covers as a little nod to Citroens of the past. The ultimate comfort and style over substance cruiser. Maybe a follow-on topic for the panel, aside from wanting to own or experience certain cars, are there any which the addicts dream about customising in any way (or those you have modified in the past, and what were/would the modifications be?)

I have to disagree with Neil on undertaking. If you are cruising along in lane 1 and come up behind someone sitting in lane 2 or 3 , it is perfectly acceptable to pass while remaining in lane 1, as long as you don't pass at a much higher speed. I am in Ireland and the rules of the road might be slightly different (and I haven't read them in years) but my understanding is that if you are in "traffic" you can pass or be passed when in either lane. I interpret that to include traffic that is freer moving than bumper-to-bumper. Switching to lane 1 to underpass is a no-no!!

2 car garage; you are the creative director for a second attempt at rebooting the 1960s cult classic The man from U.N.C.L.E. You have to supply two cars to each of the three mains - napoleon solo, illya kuryakin and Alexander Waverley - one for on job performance and one for personal use. As the series does not presently have a time period set, what cars you choose will likely have an impact on when the series is set. What cars do you recommend?

The Vauxhall topic was very interesting. I always felt they had the superior engines to Ford but would always prefer the Ford. I do think many of the designs have aged better. But when it comes to the larger cars - I always thought the Carlton and especially the Senator were superior. I liked Omegas too and that is because they didn’t seem to be a ‘Voxorl’ but rather a ‘German Car’ they always seemed so much more complete to me. As ever, Harris is spot on with the comments about not really needing a game. Pretty much all of those things he listed I do all the time. Including not listening to my now wife when I saw an amazing alfa junior in Paris etc..!

2 Car garage idea: after obtaining a 2 car garage that ticked all your performance, practicalily and family needs you have been burgled by car thieves. Your now left with 0 cars, a 10k budget and what ever equity was left after the insurance company settles (probably 20k) to use to replace the dream garage, using said budget on a lease/monthly is acceptable. One car needs to carry 2 adults and 2 children in comfort plus luggage on uk and beyond holidays. The other needs to keep what passion your have left for cars alive. Both cars should not be on a thieves wish list, i.e no Range Rover or hot Audi products. Sadly this is not a fictional scenario.

So the game is, how far can I roll along with no engine? I have to maintain momentum, but also not go too fast otherwise the engine fires up. I think my record is about 1/4 of a mile on a favourable downhill stretch. Have almost stoved into the car in front trying to maintain momentum several times 😂

It’s so private you have not even told your fellow podcasters about it. You decide to equip the garage with 2 cars. One for the bride that makes both you and her happy and that you use for outings. The other is your dirty little secret. The car you secretly love but dare not buy for fear of ridicule from those back in the UK. You’ve always wanted this car and now you can own it in seclusion. You have spent a lot on the house so you only have 45k (pounds) in the kitty.

As kids we had a car game called The Car Game. A game for a full car or a 1v1 there jepody round every corner if you played correctly. We had years of fun with it! Rules below Aim of the game is to have the most points. You get points by picking a car brand and discussing how many points one car is if you see one based on rarity. The magic of the game is the negotiation of how many points a particular car is. You could be Ford (in 2006-2014 is usually a 2,3points and take them in, or you can be more daring and go the Maserati route. The trick if the game is asking the question, how many fords will you see before I see a Maserati. That will be the points for a Maserati. (175 points maybe) This game is determined by length of the journey, where the journey is(some cars may be more popular if you driving into town for example), parked cars generally not allowed, dual carriageway can be in play or out of bounds. You decide the rules for the specific game. Most points win!!
