I love to watch the process of the peelers crawling backwards out of their shells and then comparing the new softy to the old shell. A true wonder of nature that few people ever see! Great video!

The only time i ever came across peeler crabs , was on a boat trip out of Arbroath ( Scotland , East coast ) a young guy turned up and asked if he could come out with us , we drew for positions on the boat he drew back of the boat, He had a bucket with peeler crabs , Anyway he caught about three times as many fish as the rest of us , and he had the heaviest fish .

Hi mate thanks for the video this is exactly what I needed, when you say crab trap would this be actually crab pots like you can buy on ebay or like old guttering? I'm struggling to find them and everyione else is taken by people using guttering on a side of a river? Any advice would be great. I've just ordered a vac pack machine and going to build my setup similar to yours thanks again mate

Alright Paul,have you tried putting peelers in a sandwich bag,then in to a vacuum sealer bag as Brian (Whistling Sands) does...the integrity of the crab does`nt appear to be compromised doing it that way....i`ve recently bought a vac pack machine so i`ll be on the crab hunt soon
@StarfishSeaFishing3 жыл бұрын
brian does it very good his crab is spot on kev it really does keep them in very good condition had some for over a year vac packed and they come out perfect as they went in

Paul thanks for you swift replie .If you could without given away youre position do a video on the leg test and how you select youre crab as i said alot of videos are totaly the opposite of what they say . Thiis i think would finish off the sequence of videos .Paul at what time of year do you start collecting. Would 3 twenty gallon thanks be sufficent .The gutter as traps is ther a specific way to set and what lenght do you cut them .Some of these my be silly questions however give the full picture .

i will be starting to set the tanks back up in a few weeks and start collecting again the end of feb i will be doing some more better videos when the session starts again at the end of feb i will do more detail this year how i do it etc from traps all the way through but of course the location will not be told i mainly use tyers and have over 150 set out so i handle a lot of carb each week hence the tank set up i keep around 300 on average per week so is dont over crowd the tanks
@dougaldawson50833 жыл бұрын
It's probably worth sticking a bag of carbon in your sump too bud. It will help keep any nasties out of the water. Really enjoying these videos. I've got a marine aquarium with corals. your setup is very similar. When you collect crab, is it just ones already peeling or can you collect normal crab and bring them on?
@StarfishSeaFishing3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can add carbon 👍 there all peeler I collect but most just are not ready and still in the early stages so they get broght on till there backs just start to lift and are ready to use or freeze down 👍
@Jolly-bass-boy2 жыл бұрын
If they just popped are they still not good for bait??
@kevinbuckler10854 жыл бұрын
Very informative,thanks. Roughly how much would your set up cost to put together ? If you don't mind me asking !
@StarfishSeaFishing4 жыл бұрын
you would be looking at £200 all in but i handle a lot of crab each session so this is payed off within weeks if you dont have traps or lots of crab on the go then other options may suit you better but you could make a cheaper similar set up a bit cheaper.

Brilliant vid that mate. I live on the Liverpool side, and have fished for the cod for a few years, but never had the best baits. Recently started targeting rays etc on the Wirral side. Venue I know best is Perch Rock. Is it worth collecting peelers from the groins or laying tires in the sand near the rocks off the lighthouse, do you think? Thanks for all the informative vids la
@StarfishSeaFishing4 жыл бұрын
hard to find good ground around the wirral as most are taken now but yes hunt around the groins rocks etc crabs are hard to find now as the end of the sesion best with sandell squid and black lug and squid for the winter stay tuned i will be doing some cod vids soon in the river

pond pump, air pump, homemade sump, pipe bends etc, and i use dog baths, the black plastic type last much longer. it is hard to list every thing as this is homemade but the videos should give you a good idea sump filter or trickle filter set up up to you some aquarium experience is needed in this set up.

Great video mate and I'm impressed by the effort you put into it, do you heat the water in the tank?
@StarfishSeaFishing4 жыл бұрын

@frankfitzgerald35714 жыл бұрын
Paul hope you get this youre advise and video fantastic .Two many videos supposedly about techniques however usualy crap music and nothing else .Ive watched youres numerous times Will start youre set up this year .A question the crab you collect are they just green backs that you bring on in the heated thank .Also whats youre ideal temperature. Or do you colllect in the normal way and transfer to tank.All the best for year ahead health and happiness to you and family .

thanks frank i collect crabs when they are starting to peel by checking the legs then i keep them at home in the tanks till there backs start to lift then i can use or freeze them down ideally i want to keep the water somewhere between 10 and 14 i only use the heater in the very very cold weeks to stop them claiming up

Paul/other viewers - can I ask your opinion please.... I know peeler are superior but what are your thoughts on soft or slightly crispy crab for early summer bass if frozen, defrosted and any shell that’s too crispy removed? Recently I have been finding a lot of good size softies when rock pooling with the kids so cleaned them up and froze straight away to use for bass in June/July. What do you think; worth a try or better stick with fresh lug and mackerel? Ps thanks for the videos
@StarfishSeaFishing3 жыл бұрын
You will do well with soft crab that has popped an early bass will take them when they are switched on to crab baits hounds rays will happily take them also
