I collect case because they are beautiful and I’m addictive to shiny bolsters!!
@219garry4 жыл бұрын
Case figured out long ago that the best way to increase sales is to make them pretty and promote collectability. This way people keep buying them and not using them for fear of marking them up and hurting their value. Case knows a lot of people have acquisition disorders and Case keeps making something new to keep them forking over their cash. LOL.

I collect pocket knives but not many case brand. I just don't think they are as quality as some other brands. Some of the older (70s and back) are great knives. You can say that about several brands though. I really like Queen steel designs from the 60s and 70s.

Willie Smith is probably right, because you didn't mention if your "$10 knife at a yard sale" is in mint condition. ALL values you see listed for any old knife, are mint condition knives. Willie Smith wasn't being rude to you, he simply stated a fact. But going by your rude & childish response, I highly suspect you are totally clueless about the knife you bought for $10 at a yard sale ( most people today are informed, and don't sell expensive old knives for cheap ), and you're just looking for attention. Any sincere person would mention the condition, vintage/age, handle material of a knife they found "for cheap" but is worth "hundreds more".

Good video. I love OLD Case knives. I am always on the lookout for them at yard sales and auctions. They used to make very nice very well finished pocket knives. My long time EDC is aImost as old as I am and has been sharpened so many times I had to re-profile it to keep it going. It was a yard sale purchase when I was about 18. On the other hand, I have purchased 2 new ones (other than the limited Bose models) to try to use for EDC in the last decade. One was their standard "surgical steel" and the other a CV. Both were crap inside and out. Poor fit, no snap in the action, poorly heat treated steel, blades that bounce off each other when you close them. I have honestly seen (a few) Chinese made knives that fit and finish wise were better than these later Case's I tried. I have no idea how the steel was, as I try to not buy Chinese copies of anything if I can keep from it. YMMV.
@leroiprice15865 жыл бұрын
You're right. If the steel is no good it doesn't matter much about the looks or anything else.

How is it you can tell the age again?
@mitchellgardner21935 жыл бұрын
There's a chart that shows the age of the knife by the markings on the blade, for instance they'll have dots or x's above/below the Case stamp on the tang, and you can tell how old it is from the number of x's or dots, here's a link to the chart. www.allaboutpocketknives.com/content/knife-manufacturer-specific-research/case-knife-reference-guide/case-knife-age-identification/
@howabouthetruth21574 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old post/thread.........but for anyone interested, the answer to dating/aging Case pocketknives is not as simple as "an explanation" in the form of a typed or spoken sentence here. The ONLY way to properly date Case knives, especially the more desirable ( and more expensive ) years, is to research all of the tang stampings. Case used many different stampings throughout the years, and thankfully, due to their popularity, there are dozens of reliable sources online and in books that show diagrams of every tang stamp Case ever used, along with the dating them. It doesn't matter whether a person is interested in their values ( but they should, because you can pay far too much, or you can sell the good ones for far too little, if ya don't know what you're doing ) or not........the only proper way to date ( age ) ANY pocket knife, is to learn the various stampings used over the years.
@TN_HondaDad4 жыл бұрын
Another link here that help me identify my knife. I assumed it was from the 90's when my dad had it as he really wasn't a "pocket knife" guy but the date/age of my 6318 SHSP from 1971 leads me to believe it was my grandfathers knife who passed to onto to my dad. www.allaboutpocketknives.com/price_guide/case/318/ It was pretty rusty and bad looking but with some elbow grease, wet sanding and patience it looks perfectly vintage and classic w/o making it "new again. I prefer the weathered but clean look to exhibit the "war stories" the knife could tell. :-]

I'll never buy a case knife again. Bought a 130$ collector's edition knife for my grandfather as a Christmas gift. It had a quarter inch unpolished finish on the blade with the engraving.. three week response time. Customer service was completely incompetent. And the worst part is I've loved cause cutlery for years, have over a dozen. And this experience has completely ruined my perception of both the products and the company.

I agree he comes off that way and his smug attitude does seem to get a bit over the top. But he is a good fellow and I try to cut a little slack to old guys. The stick is "The king holding court" which we all have played. It's all a costume party and should be taken as just having fun. I don't think he means to come off as nasty. But I sure have met a few people in this arena who are jerks. They are well known, talented, accomplished, jerks. I'd like to expand on that but, it's complicated.

@BlueUT65 жыл бұрын
tedkenne , I’d bet you’re young and grew up on Spyderco and the like. What you don’t take into account is that, at one time in the US, Case, Schrade and all the other ‘vintage’ makers were all there was. Those old knives were made for work and that’s what working people carried and used...for many decades. If you needed something more than what a pocketknife could do you carried the appropriate straight knife. It used to be called ‘common sense’. The ‘Case’ of today has gone pretty far off the tracks from the real tools that they used to make. The guy in the video said as much. That’s why he sells the super collectible old knives that anyone would be lucky to have now or back then.
