I will never understand full set collectors, there are so many objectively awful games on any platform, and buying them just to say you own them is bizarre to me. I have 300 Switch games, but they are all ones I enjoy or have an interest in playing. I don't need a full set, I have no interest in playing the hundreds of sports, LEGO, lousy ports, kids shovelware, etc that exist on the platform.

I think this was kind of understandable on some of the retro console catalogs with some smaller size catalogs (like the N64, or sega saturn, or even more "rare" systems like mega drive 32X). On modern consoles with thousands upon thousands of cheap shovel ware is pointless. Just a humble opinion.

I'm still collecting games for the NSW. Also, some lady brought in Mario 3D all-stars, gamestop is selling it for 100$. Found it else where some mom and pop indie store, they are selling it for 99$ I'm glad I got mine on the cheap like 3 years ago.

I’m not sure how to even approximate the size of a full Switch collection. Especially if you want to consider foreign releases which are often fully compatible in English.

Thoughts on collecting shmups on switch? They generally have slightly less input lag on PS4 but the convenience of having them on the go is amazing and often worth it imo.

I was browsing around a lot yesterday and ran across a Switch title I never heard of before. I was stunned when it carried north of a $100 price tag. Not factory sealed. Just a CIB. It wasn't a limited run games (game) but it was rare. Crazy that modern games for modern consoles can sometimes go into the $100s due to apparent scarcity. Like Alan Wake 2 remastered. Astral Chain is amazing. The gameplay of how you fight is unique and incredible sound effects/sound track music. Love Astral Chain myself. If I go back and start buying/trading for more Switch games this year I will be almost exclusively going after the horror genre. The problem I am having is that I have no clue when it comes to horror games for the Nintendo Switch. You go to the usual retail stores and the horror genre is pretty much ZERO for Switch. But, if you take the time you can discover games like "Heaven Dust" which exist because of 3rd party companies like Supre Rare Games. So, I am beginning to notice Switch actually has a lot of horror genre games... Just not easy to discover them.

With PS3, I set my goal to get every good game I'd ever want to play including NA, Japan, and PAL and make sure I complete certain sets like horror, JRPG, etc. That's a big list and at around 400-500 games I'll be there. But for Switch? That won't scratch the surface. I personally don't own a switch and will probably skip it all together and focus on PS5

Astral Chain is hard to find around these parts so when I saw it I bought it with the generic GameStop box lol.

But what people don't understand is that this generation there are 5x more actual games. than previous consoles. Whole libraries have jumped from 700 total games to 4-500 games that come out yearly across all consoles. Yes there are hundreds of shovelware. But there's also 'small' games like Golf story sitting next to large games like Ys8. Collecting whole sets is a tall task unless you are a youtuber getting revenue off every video to cover multiple pre-orders lol

Collecting for the Switch & PS4/PS5 later on is going to be INSANE. We have never seen physical print runs this low with consoles ever. Years ago, anything less than 25k copies printed was low, now we're having games with runs 5k and less. A bunch of people scoff at these limited print companies, and sure they have their faults, but mark my words, down the line these games are going to have ridiculous price tags.

I been waying this since 2020. The Switch gets the best of gaming's past and present; with a natural curation (minuse the shop shovelware problem) and is super convient to use. Even if this were Nintendo's last console; the ablity to simply pick it up and start playing games from the 8bit genration, to as far as the PS3 generation, with arcade games, console games and past handhelds; is WAAAY more convenient than having to pull out those TV only consoles from storage. The Marvel VS Capcom colleciton alone; cemented this for me and I am just waiting for more Saturn and past gen ports for years to come; even well into the Switch 2 life cycle (which is also backwards compatible). Nintendo is on fire. I will be sticking with 1v1 fighers (or tag fighers) waiting for some of them to go on sale and some I will get day 1 (like the Capcom Fighting Collection 2) as well a hack and slash RPGs (there are too many to count, so I will only get 3), and just action games in general.

My Switch collecting habits go by rules: 1st rule - It has to be exclusive to the Switch physically. If it's on another console I'm not buying the Switch version 2nd rule - If it's made by Nintendo it's an automatic buy 3rd rule - it has to have a metacritic score of at least generally favorable

This will attract greedy resellers, investors, and manipulators. Some games have already reached the $100-200 range for no good reason other than being limited releases or because resellers are hoarding them and driving up prices with fake bids. I've been keeping an eye on a local seller who has a bunch of rare Switch games, and honestly, a lot of them aren't worth what they're asking. Many of these games attempt to lure suckers into paying high price and hold the bag when the price drops.
