Good job m8's It's abit smoky inside right now 😂 Sad news to share ; I found a 62 international truck & restored it 95% only to have it stolen . The State of PENNSYLVANIA then registered it in the thief's name . Neither the Dmv, PA state police etc w share thief's info w me or help me get it back . I still have the original title and the keys . It was Stolen whilst I was out of town working . For the Gas models a New Carb can be bout for about 100 bucks . Tip to adjust the Mechanical Lifters on Gas models you split the difference between hot and cold . It took me 3 yrs to find that in print in an old library . These things are beast and Do not break often . The Red Diamond series of motors are good ones . Mine had the BD 240 Gas model . Only weak spot I found was the trans Prop shaft ; mine broke whilst driving ; my wife for my Bday had bought me a spare . These vehicles (classics) only have 13 Vin #'s & in the US there is NO provision for adding them to the National stolen vehicle database ; if stolen NO PARTY will help you get it back . My truck was valued at 12 grand I made some of the parts and All the gaskets by hand . About 1,500 hrs of work . You'ld still be Pissed off too ; I promptly Moved out of Communist state of PA to Never Return . Note: I was born there . The taxes were Nuts anyways ; here I pay 1/1000th in property tax . Welcome to WV . America's 1st Municipality Still somewhat Wild & Very Beautiful . Example my Land taxes for 3.5acres and a 1872 1 room Schoolhouse are 150 p/yr . I am enjoying Being a new Sub and find your finds and Laugh very enjoyable . Any updates on Humpty dumpy ? Cheers M8's

@@lmm He needed to use it as many times as he did, or maybe he could have saved a couple of squirts if you had kept the revs a little higher, but the squirts could have been quite a bit smaller than they were, and that would have been better for the engine. A less volatile spray like brake cleaner might have been better too, except brake cleaner has no oil in it while most starting fluid does have a bit. Fresh diesel or Kerosene might also have helped you reduce the starter fluid stress.

Great video Lawrie, would you believe that engines get addicted to Easy Start. If you use it too often, they won't start without it. I wrecked the piston on my 1972 Yamaha dt250 by using it. I was told that it was too volatile, just like my ex wife lol, for a 2 stroke engine. By the way, ponytails rule, I have one too! I'm the hairy biker, but I can't cook! I wish my shed was as big as yours.

"will it start after 50 years"... ofcourse it will start.. it's a diesel, if it got there driving on it's own power, it will leave driving on it's own power... the only question is how long you have to turn it around before it runs. lol. Just going through some of your older videos and saw this, a great little find. One thing I would advise on getting an old engine that's not been run for a long time, is to use WD-40 not starter fluid or a mixture of both, as the WD-40 will lubricate the cylinder and rings helping with compression where starter fluid does the opposite.

@CB3ROB-CyberBunker
@CB3ROB-CyberBunker 5 жыл бұрын
wd40 is NOT a lubricant and far more likely to wash off any actual lubricant in place (motoroil or fat). it's what you use to clean engine parts when taking them apart, not when putting them together lol. the piston rings are simply gonna have to cope with it. also the piston rings are not the problem when running cars on starter fluid or actual LPG, it's the valves that die due to higher temperatures... the thing will get oil anyway as the starter engine drives the oilpump, so wether or not the fuel itself provides lubrication is less important. (provided you don't intend to run it on startspray only for hours and hours ;) and besides that, having to change some piston rings after what? 60 years? isn't that much of a big deal... if it blows it blows. it's better if it blows while it's in the shop than when it's on the road. lol.
@gutsngorrrr
@gutsngorrrr 5 жыл бұрын
@@CB3ROB-CyberBunker Sorry, but WD-40 is a penetrating oil, it acts as both cleaning and lubrication. It's a better solution for doing a start because of this. Though on an engine that has sat for many years, I would put a small amount of oil in to each cylinder and leave for a while to help with initial lubrication. The main issues are old oil, gummed up rings etc, so anything that helps is good. Starting fluid does non of that. Though it's fine on an engine that's in constant use and just need a little extra to get it going.
@wintersbattleofbands1144
@wintersbattleofbands1144 2 жыл бұрын
@@lmm Yes, you can do a LOT of damage starting them dry, and/or DECADES worth of cylinder and ring wear in a minute when there's rust or gunk in them. Never a bad idea to pull the plugs and put a little lubricant in. Automatic transmission fluid words great. I know it takes a little extra time but it's better for the machine, and isn't that what you want by saving them?

Ether is only good for washing parts even then marginal, penetration oil is by far the best starter fluid out there . Forget about been gentle and letting it sit at idle , work it straight off once oil pressure is up , glazing of the bore from long idle is very real . A motor will fail within 5 min of been started after sitting for years. If it goes and will idle work it as it gets all the temps and pressure up fast . That hunting at idle is normal with the type of governor on tractors
@lmm
@lmm 5 жыл бұрын
The hunting is pretty bad - I saw another much nicer example, and that didn't hunt at all. It took about 6 months for the thing to die, awaiting a strip down and investigation now. I'll remember oil in the future thanks!

No worries, watched a couple of other visd you have done , on the fire truck throw the mechanical lift pump over your shoulder and fit a low volume low pressure elect fuel pump in before the filters , makes bleeding a doddle , way more reliable than the original. Really like your dumper . Cheers from Australia
@CB3ROB-CyberBunker
@CB3ROB-CyberBunker 5 жыл бұрын
just starting it and letting it idle would never have blown all that crap out of the exhaust... :P far more likely for the crap to have remained -in- the engine causing all kinds of shit. could have put some airpressure in the cylinders through the injector hole to clean them in advance tho.. but you have to take out the pre-chambers to get there anyway. just plank the thing and make the crap go out the exhaust hole, and if it breaks, it breaks. it doesn't really matter wether you have to fix a little or a lot when it's getting fixed anyway.
