I find it fun to watch you young gentleman find old equipment to see if you can get it to run. As you were tinkering I was pleasantly surprised to see some old America farm equipment in the background... like a Farmall and a Case tractor. I agree your trouble shooting skills have definitely improved. Hey just a hint from a professional... I'm guessing you have steel shower curtain rings in your country... they work well as a carabiner to hold your combination wrench sets together... as does a tool roll for your open ends. This also helps with spotting missing tools.

That looked like a Thwaites DUMPER not dump truck to me found on building and construction sites mid 1950s onwards. They would carry about 10 cwt. rear steering, The box under the seat is for the starting handle. Using Easy start was a sackable offence as engines grew addicted to the stuff, so a lit piece of diesel soaked rag had to do the trick on Icey mornings. Luckily I worked at a precast factory and the units would be steamed to gain early set strength, so parking near the steam room kept my dumper engine warm.

Yeah! From age 8 to about 20 I spent several weeks each summer on a small family farm that had three tractors. A late-80s Deutz that felt incredibly modern (well, the year I first got there it was only four years old I think), a mid-70s Deutz with a front loader and a 1956 Steyr T84 that was still used for light duty like mowing tight spots with the original sickle mower, splitting logs with a hydraulic splitter or turning hay. Every time I heard that little 18 BHP diesel engine start up I'd drop everything and run for a ride on the nearside wheel arch (the offside was usually blocked by the mower attachment). I also helped start it when the battery was semi-knackered and held enough juice to glow the engine but not for the starter motor. Two weeks ago I helped figure out the wiring of its little brother, a sad green T80. I did find original schematics to confirm our findings but as none of the electrics were original but rather an aftermarket kit the schematics weren't all that helpful. The base model was actually sold without any electrics whatsoever. You'd stuff glowing cotton buds (looking like cigarette filters) into a holder in the block and then crank the handle like mad. No lights, no nothing. The full upgrade kit this one had consisted of two headlights (sidelights, dipped beam, high beam), two combined rear/brake lights, one of which also included a number plate light, a glow plug and a starter motor (and obviously a generator and a regulator). Apart from the glow plug and the starter nothing worked when we got there, cut and taped wired all over the place.
