The native fish in Florida are so underrated, I like the metallic shinners and Pygmy sunfish

Funny you should ask… I filmed one this past week… only to find out I had the microphone plugged into the wrong port. I will do one next week when I return from the reptile/plant expo

Fascinating!! Thanks for sharing. I'm going to have to get to those springs! Very cool! It's easier to sort a dip net if you dip the bottom in a bucket and sort it in water

Even non-endemic would be cool, if sad to find. A colleague from California mentioned Dwarf Gourami are invasive in Florida.

I don't think that's a correct ID on the Bluefin Killifish. There's another native lookalike around here that's easy to mistake. The caudal fins look wrong on yours. Great video!

I ask how much is natural, what we see as natural particularly recently is far off. I think it's the forgetting of how freshwater is manipulated and that plants can be damaging and invasive. In the UK a lot has changed, weirs/barriers and the increase of silt/nutrients has changed everything the most. Looking in over ones lifetime doesn't show how much it's changed. It makes me wonder as I come from a chalk stream area and so much of that is gone now, what people see as natural isn't. Also moving to somewhere that definitely was temperate rainforests with surviving pockets it highlights it further and the levels of flash flooding are on another level to most of the UK.
