I'm in Canada, Robert, and the combination of the effects from Covid, and the chip shortage needed for new cars has the dealers scrambling to get something to sell. @@shugthehornyhaggis there may be computers but they are simple and uncomplicated. There are four computers in my 1994 Volvo (ECU, dashboard infocentre, CEM and ABS), all work independently (no interconnect) and if one breaks I can replace it with one from a scrap car by simply swapping the part. Most things are analog and can be fixed by a DIY mechanic. For my 2011 Volvo, I need a laptop and a special interface and software to diagnose the car. Swapping a failed computer? Forget it, they are programmed with the VIN and need a dealer to reprogram.

We have a 1994 Camry V6 LE sedan (US Spec) the biggest continuous issue we have had are having to every replace the valve cover gaskets and we’ve had to replace the power steering pump a couple times. The power steering pump being bad can cause it to overheat because the cooling fan is driven by hydraulic pressure from the power steering pump. It’s sitting at about 182,000 miles (292,900 kms approximately)

One of the virtues of the importing of used JDM cars in NZ is that it's changed the used car dealer scene. There are still some rogues and thieves, but a lot of places can make money by sourcing good cars at auctions in Japan and selling them here with less trouble than bodging up a dunger. A naive punter like me pays too much, probably, but at least you get a decent car. But whatever the provenance, it's a Toyota: it may need fixing, but it will be fixable and stay fixed, and I'm so glad to see you in a sensible car for daily family use, disguised as exotic by the rear wipers.

My wife's friend had one of these.. If you think they're rare in the UK, try finding a Camry Wagon in the USA 😉 (the Japanese auto makers were always deprecating the wagon models here in the 1990's to get families to buy their minivan offerings instead).

A brief uneducated guess: head gasket failure. I had a similar issue on my Rover P6B, didn't get hot but spilled coolant nonetheless. Turned out one of the head gaskets had failed, allowing exhaust gases being pumped into the cooling system which then released a halfpint of coolant through the overflow every now and then.

The ancient train is a Class 150, built between 1984 and 1987. Based on the HST coach bodyshell, and quite sophisticated in some ways, with their air-cushion suspension. I think the only thing that really dates them is the lack of air-conditioning. But they were designed for commuter work and local stoppers - it's unusual to see one on the Shrewsbury - Telford - Birmingham International run, which is a relatively fast limited stop route. But then, I think Transport for Wales has been allocating trains to routes by pulling numbers out of a hat just recently.

Hi Ian , I had a kia sedona people carrier 2.7 turbo diesel automatic 03 plate a few years back, it was a pleasure to drive, leather seats like arm chairs, but when at motorway speeds 70mph + ,the temperature guage used to shoot to red after 5 mins and then loose all power, had to pull over for 15 20 mins to cool down, the water in the expansion tank would be boiling up, when cooled down it would drive ok up to about 50mph, any faster the same thing happened, took it to 3 garages for a gas test, head gasket test, but they couldnt find any problems, one test i did from cold start on winters morning, started it up drove it literally 20 seconds to end of the street, opened the cap on the expansion tank and loads of pressure come flying out, so it said to me that exhaust gases are entering the coolant either from head gaskget or a crack in the head, but in the end it blew up and couldnt get it going again and left me stranded, a hubnut moment

A powerpack car contains (an) electric generator(s) powered by (a) Mercedes engine(s) for non-OHLE line routes, then a pantograph takes over for the electrified portion up to Birmingham International. A lovely car, and I'm happy to say no "chinning" required, though my jaw did drop slightly at what would normally be the pytchooo moment. Good luck with the new addition.

God Ian that train is a good old class 158 DMU. I remember travelling on the one to Birmingham from Solihull when Centro and Central trains operated them and a few years ago brought a very detailed model of the exact train that operated between Dorridge and Solihull.

Nice ride! They were very popular in the States, so parts, hopefully, won't be an issue, tho I hear everyone's having trouble getting parts for anything lately. The turning up of the heater is a concern; I recall, years ago, when my friend and I drove his 1975 Corona (no rear wiper, dang it!) cross-country in the Summer, we had to crank up the heat when cresting any kind of hill or mountain, but we made it! I think you mentioned the timing belts had been replaced recently? That'd be good as that was a bit of a killer on those v-6s...Best wishes w/ this one, and Happy Holidays!

Yeah, terrible downer when my paint gets its bumper scraped off. ,,, And then... coolant. Wonderful. What a cliffhanger. This is entertainment for men at its finest. Never change, Ian.

Great purchase Ian. In my humble opinion, get the engine, belts, cooling exhaust sorted and you have a good honest motor

It must have been impossible to resist buying the car given the twin rear wipers. The only time I can remember seeing this rear wiper arrangement was on a JDM Toyota Crown Wagon. Anyway, I hope the fluid leak turns out to be a minor fault.

You did say you could see and smell coolant.....Suppose its crap being right on this occassion. On the positive side, it will mean a couple or three videos for us 👍

I believe a thorough going over is in order. Fix the main issues first! I would then service the automatic transmission, just to be safe! I couldn't tell if this was a Camry XLE, that would have been the top-spec Camry. Another vehicle that will be a work in progress and! Best of luck 🤞 and fingers crossed,

Hey man if you need any help with anything on the wagon a good page to join on FB would be 3rd / 4th gen camry krew. I also posted this wagon when it was for sale on the group. It was quite a hit for us US folks. Didnt expect anyone to buy it and make a video on it. Such a clean station wagon for the price. And incredible low miles!. ( which doesn't always mean reliable) unfortunately only because it was either not taken care of or taken care of when someone previously owned it. Although i dont think youll be having many problems with it. These wagons are truly tanks. And the v6s engines as well. I myself here in California have had a 1994 Toyota camry wagon v6 le 7 seater. Just sold to a buddy of mine but also just bought a 1995 Toyota camry wagon le v6 in grey last month with 85k miles. My 94 is on my youtube channel here. Although haven't recorded one of my 95 yet!. Dual wipers for the win!.

Hi Ian, maybe it´s time to get yourself a wood gasifier operated car. My grandfather had this in 1950. And it had some popularity in the mid 1970ies as well. 1 Liter of fuel is almost 2 Euro here in Germany with prices going up. All kinds of energy went up double and more in the last months. You can´t even load a Tesla with a fast charging socket since there is no electrity system to provide fast charging... We need to back up a couple of decades to rediscover what did work for our ancestors...

Oh no! Feel like pulling a head off. With practice, you'll be able to have another crack at the Charade. Dodgy turning up the heater during test drive. Living up to reviews by the sound of it.

If the MOT is indeed due in 6 weeks, perhaps best to have the garage get it up on the ramp for a pre inspection now to check the leak and the exhaust. Fingers crossed the repairs don't go too far into the hundreds. A transverse V6 isn't usually the easiest engine to work on. Local Toyota garage doing free winter checks?
@HubNut3 жыл бұрын
Sadly we haven't got a local Toyota garage. Will see how it does for the MOT next year.

Welcome to the Camry owners club. Same colour as mine. A rare vehicle here. Despite being the best selling car in the US for many years, it's more exclusive than a Ferrari in the UK. Look after one and it'll give you 300k miles.

Second hand car collecting is quite stressful in normal conditions but well done for keeping calm. I hope the leakage isn’t too bad and looking forward to the next episode.

LOTS of these still in active service over here. If you need a 'Rust-Cut' Patch or whatever I could help you there. Lots of 'em in the Wrecking Yards too.

Fingers crossed the coolant leak is something simple like a leaky pump or hose. Seems like a good family bus otherwise.

Don't think I've ever seen a Camry estate, in real life or online. Very nice purchase, hopefully she'll be at the next hub nut social next year.

As well as the USA and Japan, I'm sure that Toyota also built the Camry in Russia (or at least was planning to, in the early '00s) - I recall hearing about it back in the days when I worked for a company that is a big supplier to Toyota. Why did I have a terrible sinking feeling when I saw that coolant leak? I wonder if the cooling fan works? Looking forward to more on this! PS: impugning the honour of Telford's used car dealers - the cheek! I'll have you know there are cowboy dealers in Wales as well (like the one who sold me my Fiesta).

If I've understood correctly, Wales is due to get Stadler Flirt trains. Made in Switzerland and reckoned to be the best multiple-unit trains available anywhere.
