I love how this song comes off as relaxing and chill but the more you listen to the instruments and beat you slowly realize that it’s melancholic like shadow wants to relax but he just can’t cause his thoughts of what he lost won’t leave him alone

I can't be the only one who finds this ost unsettling, right? It sounds relaxing but at the same time, something feels...off. it made the experience of reading Gerald's journal that much more unnerving.

Yeah, there's definitely some dissonance in there. It's harder to parse since it's across multiple instruments, but it still gives you the same uneasy feeling. Honestly it feels like that adds to reading the journal too; throughout most of the contents Gerald is clearly fairly sane, but there's this slight sense that something is off. What first caught my eye is how he says that what he does from the point Maria was born onwards would all be for her (or something along those lines). It's a nice sentiment and I'm sure he meant it to be at the time of writing, but he had no idea how far he would actually go for Maria's sake (he really wasn't kidding). I dunno if I made any sense, I just kind of ended up rambling, I just love how this piece is so simple yet it says so much.

That bass-y bump in the background seems slightly off sync with the rest of the beat, it sounds like an arrhythmic heartbeat or something. I think that's most of what adds to the feeling of the track, but it's harder to notice since most people are focused on the melody, or likely the collection room itself above all else. I had to listen to this here to notice it.

I had this song playing for like 2 hours straight while trying to decipher the binary in Gerald's journal, and after staring at thost two pages where Gerald loses his grip for long, the uneasiness turned to fear. I wasn't able to figure out what the binary meant, which made it worse. There seems to be this piece of information that Gerald thought was important enough to encrypt while he was awaiting his execution.
