In my mind, this is one of the most amazing songs ever written, especially considering it didn't absolutely smash the charts like it so richly deserved to. It's an absolute masterpiece.

born in 63. had 2 older brothers serve overseas, in war. taught me the real classics. grew up in the late '70s with KISS, etc. served my time in the early 80's with GUNS N ROSES, etc. worked and partied through the 90's. then the music started to turn to shit. today's "music" does not have an original bone in it. shame.

I am a guy who was a child in the 70's, teenager in the 80's and grown in the 90's and the early mid 90's were as good as any time period I saw. These guys, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Black Crowes, Soundgarden...its a shame it didn't last longer before Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Kanye, Nsync, Backstreet Boys, 98 degrees and the damn Spice girls took over. Nothing has been the same after. Thanks God for Sirius so we don't have to listen to pop radio.

In my mid 20s as of writing this comment. I heard this song playing just as I was cleaning up from working on an old chainsaw in the family shop. 30 years later and I still remember this like it was yesterday. A much happier and exciting time to be alive back then. The 90’s were super rad, the music was great, everyone still loved the country no matter what difference of opinion, and the tv shows were awesome. A continuation from the amazing 80’s. This video is bittersweet.

Just watched Ed with Rick Beato & Ed got schooled on the "correct" opening sequence of his own song. Two masters with quieted egos that allowed the teacher to correct the originator. @Franklin Zappa I was also born in 1963, but I've come to the conclusion that the 90s were actually the greatest musical generation. I love the music of the 60s and 70s. But, I think that by the 90s there were so many influences to draw on and many bands were picking disparate sources they liked and combining them in really interesting ways. And I think that the combination of world weary cynicism, heart felt angst, and humor that was so much part of 90s music is a particularly good combination. Also, partly it was because the economy was good and downloading had yet to prove the completely moral bankruptcy of the general public, so there was riskable cash and the labels were willing to throw anything at the wall and see if it stuck. That's really how it should be, but it can only happen when times are good. And that's probably not going to ever happen again. The economy will cycle back up at various points but the public isn't going to suddenly grow a conscience and start actually paying for music at it's actual value to their lives.

If you didn’t put in the effort to find the good, independent, and experimental music of the 00’s and 10’s then it’s easy to see how you’d think music had already peaked by then. However, as someone born in ‘89, I can comfortably say that the best music is being made in the modern era. We built upon the psych foundation laid by you all in the 60’s and knew where to take it next. The next generation will continue doing the same. To hell with this notion that the best music has already happened.
@deanroddey2881
@deanroddey2881 4 жыл бұрын
@@BroadcastsFromPoorFarm You are missing the point. The fact that some folks are doing something in their bedrooms and posting it to KZbin where the probably get a few hundred views or some such, is not the same thing. I think it's great folks are doing it, but the fast majority of people will not dig, sadly. Back then a shovel wasn't required, and that completely changes things.

Marlon- I know your heartache and I am so sorry for your pain. I lost my baby sister too, July 8, 2019. She was only 47 for 6 weeks. Cancer took her from us. She was a magical soul. She left behind so many that love and miss her every single day, including two young sons. For me, it feels like I miss her every minute!!! I’m scared to think I’ll still hurt this much in ten years. Like you said, our sisters wouldn’t want that, they’d want us to go on and be happy. I know that with all of my heart. My sister was so loving and giving. I feel your hurt even though it was 1995. Based on her age, she was the same age as my only other sister, the youngest in our family. Ironically, my only daughter was born 2 months after you lost your sister. Life is a fragile circle. So very fleeting. I can tell you hold on to all of the precious memories. I’m sure by now our sisters spirits have connected. May you feel a little peace in your heart today. Hugs from afar.🤗😇😇☮️💟🛐🕊🦋🌈🌹🕯

It's a damn shame. Hopefully if they get in the rock hall ed lets him in.

I'm 21. Collective Soul is my favorite band forever, and my ultimate dream was always to see Collective Soul live. My dream is finally coming true next month! After a year and a half of supporting this band through it all, I will be front row at two shows in Atlanta. Yes, during the pandemic. I can't believe it. What a miracle! Collective Soul is more than a band for me, they are family and love to my heart.

I think I saw them in the 1990's in Detroit - New Center area. I think. . . We were partying heavy back then.

I was never into grunge but I heard this in a store the other day and an enormous flood of unexpected emotions hit me. Weird. Maybe just nostalgic for my childhood, I remember this on the radio. It's funny how songs can store emotions and energy.

Why drink the water from my hand? Contagious as you think I am Just tilt my sun towards your domain. Your cup runneth over again. Don't scream about Don't think aloud Turn your head now baby Just spit me out Don't worry about Don't speak of doubt Turn your head now baby Just spit me out Why follow me to higher ground? Lost as you swear I am. Don't throw away your basic needs, Ambiance and vanity. December promise you gave unto me December whispers of treachery December clouds are now covering me December songs no longer I sing

Collective Soul is the best rock band of all time! Ed Roland's voice is the best I've ever heard - he has many different voices from high to low! (all very sultry sounding) This is a band that can do it all - awesome guitar riffs, catchy melodies, hook words that make you remember the song - plus Ed is an astounding front man that takes command of the audience! Every album that they have ever put out is like a "Greatest Hits CD"!!! Think about it - if you really listen to all their songs - almost every song is a number 1 hit!!! (about 80 plus songs are all "gold"!!!) They were really screwed by all the radio stations!!! I would love to play "Collective Soul Wars" with any band out there!!! Believe me - I know that everybody in the music business knows about the "SOUL MACHINE"!!! This band can crank out a "rock, grunge, pop, ballad or any other type of song at will"!!! I can't think of any other band or solo artist from the 50's through today that can do this!!! Is there any other people out there that agree with me? KEEP ROCKING ED - you're the best!!!!!!!
