Hi there. Btw Taimen nishiki is absolutely stunning. You’re right, never seen a mix variation of colors like that. Happy you were able to grab it from Mr. Maples. Just curious how you use the grow bags as containers. If you can discuss that further in a future video. TY

Thank you. The grow bags were experimental for me. I still use them on larger trees but I've switched back to nursery pots for my smaller specimens.

It's actually still cool and rainy. Some tree's buds are starting to swell and a few are leafing out but it's definitely happening slower than usual.

This Taimen Nishiki looks amazing. Could you do a video on how to care for Taimen Nishiki as well as Fujinami Nishiki? Maybe comparing the differences? Also, this is like my 3rd time watching this video. My first time was a few months back and that's when I learned of Snow Kitten. I just started buying Japanese Maples about 4 months ago and I'm hoping to get Snow Kitten this year or next spring. Thank you for the video!

Your videos are very helpful learning about maple trees. I just discovered those trees and purchase 3 very small trees, maybe 2 years old. Could you please give me some advice? I live in zone 6, and some winers can get very cold. Now I have them in a pot outside like yours, in the summer, but they will not survive in pot in winter. Maybe they are very small to plant in the garden. But can they survive if I put them inside the house from let's say October to April? I still don't have any winter garden.

Thank you. I'm glad that you're enjoying the channel. You don't want to bring your maples inside the house. This will interrupt their dormancy. If you have a garage, you can stick them in there, once it starts to freeze.

Thanks for the great content. Have a variety of Japanese maple I can't identify. Seems to have some traits of the matsumurae and some of the disectum. Have been researching a lot but I haven't been lucky in identifying. Maybe you knowledge can enlighten my quest!!! Cheers,

There's Snow kittens somewhat available online now but, they all have high grafts. I like the way yours look 100 percent more. I will wait until I find one that's not a high graft before I buy one.

I've never understood the appeal of a high grafted snow kitten. Maybe they have a higher success rate. I don't know. It doesn't look good to me.

I just purchased 2 Taimen nishiki a few weeks ago. Last summer I was told that I was basically wasting my time trying to find a Taimen. Now I need to find a Fujinami nishiki and Red Jaguar.

Great video. I love your variegated collection. That Taimen Nishiki is kinda similar to your fujinami nishiki but with a little more white. Is it more stable?

They have similarities but if saw them side by side, the differences are obvious. Neither variety is considered stable.

After your fine presentation I am longing for a taimen nishiki. Can you suggest were to procure one? Mr. Maple is the only website I find that even names it, and, even there taimen nishiki is listed as "out of sock." And, given its rarity and challenges will Mr. Maple ever have in stock again? Left my email address with Mr. Maple to be notified when taimen nishiki is in sock. Would a cutting or seedling be possible to get a hold of? Thank you very much.

I've only seen pictures of 'Diane Verkade' and I don't really like the contorted leaf shapes. 'Versicolor' has inferior variegation compared to many other variegated palmatums out there.

@@maplecollector4398 I've only seen one online nursery have them available in the US. I thought they might be rare in the states but, I guess there isn't many people that want them. Diane Verkade seems more popular in the UK and France.

@@maplecollector4398 Sure. I recall in one of your videos you said you may prune maples to stimulate growth in mid-summer, am I right? How do you do this? Also, if and when you decide to give/sell some trees may I get on the list?

Mid Summer pruning doesn't stimulate much growth but you can prune mid Summer if shaping a tree. The best time to prune a tree to stimulate growth is in late winter or spring, when the buds swell, just before leaf flush. I don't have a list for trees that I give away. I usually give them to family or neighbors.

How to get more variegation?

That's not a simple question to answer. Each of these trees have different types of variegation. Much of it has to do with climate. Also feed them very little nitrogen.

If you ever had time, I would tune in for a video on tips to keep the variegation for either of these, or any for that matter. I ordered my only ever jpm after watching one of your videos but I failed to keep the variegation!

@@macnoice4272 that’s a great idea. I have an Oridono Nishiki. I prune it back and add slow release fertilizer in early spring. I can see more variegation but not as much as yours (from your other video). if you had other tips, that would be great.
