Thanks! Is it too hot there?

@@MomijiEn We are in Zone 9, but I will not risk to plant JM here because summers are really hot like 3 digits temperature. For now, I'll just keep watching on your JMs. 😚

@@pacificgardener I used to live in zone 9 too and my smaller JMs did okay under 50% shade cloth. Yeah that's good alternative 😁

I was wondering the same thing. I’m moving to FL in next year, I will try to grow them to see close to the house if they will survive.

I am envious. Thats so beautiful, I could sit the whole day in you garden just to drink it in. love japanese maples and If i am not selfrestrained, I could go wild with collecting.. but of course there is a "but". No Garden, just a balkony, south side. a lot of other trees already, so space is rare. I can walk around the sun, have a few save spots, but the water quality is my biggest concern: just tap water available, and its quite chalky. I bought a katsura and a atropurpureum dissectum, will plant it in a Pot with soil for Rhododendron and give it a try.
@MomijiEn3 жыл бұрын
I started my collection at an apartment with a small balcony too! Looks like you are facing south so might need to protect them during the summer time! Good luck! 🙂

Thx for posting 🙏 How did you get all these varieties? Grafted ? Seed ?
@MomijiEn3 жыл бұрын
Both. Most of the named cultiver are usually grafted or air layered.

@@MomijiEn thanks. You bought cuttings online?
@MomijiEn3 жыл бұрын
@@delatroy I rarely find anyone selling cuttings but I bought one that's 20 yrs old cutting from a local nursery.
@delatroy3 жыл бұрын
@@MomijiEn I see thank you. If you take a cutting / air layer from an old tree, will the new tree die of "old aging" or will it behave as if it has been grown from seed? I heard also that cuttings have weaker roots that growing from seed - hence why root stock is always grown from seeds? Thanks for your help! 🙏

just in hope that it is some kinda filthy capitalistic windows\microsoft based software, what kinda software you use to produce this crazy rendering issue ?

@@MomijiEn mac, one would maybe think it is better than microsoft but,,its the same horror ,, apple are just as capitalistic and horrible money grabbing "people"... that being said,, rest of movie was good .. :) dont mean to complain.. just my personal experience with it over the years. there is a software for linux, named kdenlive , never try to make it run on a mac before but, maybe you can if u want to try something new. =)

@@QuadDerrick good question but I'm not exactly sure. Even mature trees, they sometimes produce lots of seeds in one year and none the next year so hard to tell.

Wonderful! How old is the Deshojo? I planted a small 3' one last year and trying to gauge how many years until mine looks like yours.
@MomijiEn4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We got this tree about 7 years ago and probably it was about 10 yrs old at that time. This tree spent lots of time in the container so it was growing slowly. We plant it in the groud about 4 years ago and the tree has been quite happy and growing well 🙂

Ah, I was wondering what those random fences/cages around rocks/gravel areas were for. 🐰 Do they ever eat/gnaw on the trunks of your in-ground garden maples? I might wrap my trunks with wire-fence/chicken-wire once mine get big enough to plant in the ground. Speaking of which... that’d be a nice video too... planting JMs (of diff sizes) in the ground 😉 How big should they be before planting in ground? Or is any size/age okay and doesn’t really matter?
@MomijiEn4 жыл бұрын
Good catch on the fences - I think it placed them temporarily for my dogs to do their things while my landscaper was working on the yard. lol We do have many wild rabbits around the area we live and they do like to eat fresh grasses and sometimes damage trunk. When that happens, I immediately treat it with some cut paste to seal the wounds. You can plant them in the ground regardless of size/age in general. I think the timing of when you plant/how would be more important. Now you gave me some ideas for future videos! ;) Thanks!
