I have a '97 Prelude Type SH (the trim _only_ came in manual). Just want to get the dents hammered out and get it resprayed to the factory color after I tackle any mechanical issues. It's a pretty fun daily for now. Honestly, I think if you want a Honda you can drive daily, isn't hard to find, and that you can count on for a _long_ time, get a later manual Accord.

I had a KA24DE that I built for a Datsun 620. Converted to 4 carburetors from a Yamaha R1. So kind of ITBs. I had some billet cams ground custom with 320/320 duration. Made an adapter and transplanted a 1970s Isuzu distributor to run an MSD 7AL-2 ignition to run with the carbs. Made 321HP at 8300 RPM. Sold that truck to a guy and he is still driving it now.

No as someone who owned a 5th gen prelude(1997 type sh was also my first car) the majority were manuals the automatic they put in them are one of hondas worst automatics and thats saying something. Also my man with the prelude make sure u get that ignition switch replaced if u havent already its still an open recall and breaking down in city traffic over it aint fun. But overall very solid car the interior in that thing is nicer then my mothers 17 bmw or her sisters 22 audi. Other then the ignition switch check the oil constantly they made the pistons and the walls out of different types of metal that honda was trying out and as a result it burns oil very quickly. I also had a pretty bad rear main seal leak it got to the point where i was spending just as much money on oil then i was gas. Unfortunately for me mine went head first into a drunk drivers honda fit his fit looked like an accordian afterwards but the lude got some pretty bad frame damage so had to scrap it so look out for idiots. But ya besides that its an incredible car keep rockin it. VTEC BABBBYYY

ABOUT THE PRADOS guys: There are two engines that came in the 70 series prados: the 2L-TE and the 1KZ-TE. The 2L-TE is the bad one. KZJs are pretty bulletproof. The 2L-TE has a weak head. It can be made to be reliable with a head swap, and both of them become decent with a FMIC. Prados are still cool fucking vehicles. LJs and KZJs are not the same tier offroad weapons as HZJ Land Cruisers, but they are much more dailyable. I dailied an LJ78 for a year and it sips diesel and is comfy as fuck to drive.

300hp NA is possible on SR's with itb's and some extreme compression, like, 12:1 plus and ethanol, but that bitch will be dicey, those rings will be screaming for their lives from day one.

Never dealt with an SR but I built a KA24DE that made 321hp@8300RPM NA. Carbureted with individual 52mm CV side draft carbs per cylinder, 1979 Chevy LUV distributor with shaft cut short and the Nissan gear transplanted, installed in the head with a custom adapter I made on a lathe and a Chevy distributor clamp, MSD ignition firing Champion C53VC surface gap plugs, 320/320 duration billet cams installed on a 102 lobe separation, 13.5:1 compression pistons, 4340 H beam rods. Oil filter adapter removed and block tapped for a 3/4-16 stud so that a large HP1 oil filter could be installed. Bearing clearances set up for 10w-60 oil. Gapless rings. Was installed in a Datsun 620 pickup with a 5 speed out of a 240SX and Exedy twin disk clutch. Ebay limited slip in the stock rear axle with 4.88 gears or something close to that. 300ZX calipers on front disc brakes and also rear disc brakes. Was an absolute rocket ship. Everything was stripped from the interior besides the seat and dashboard frame, to which I mounted gauges and switches in an aluminum plate. No idea on 0-60 or 1/4 mile because I sold it before I ever took it to a track, but it beat a BMW 335D by a decent amount. And was impossible to drive in the rain, it would try and break loose with the slightest application of throttle.

@@lucasdamask I did enjoy daily driving it even though it was quite difficult. With the CV carbs it had quite a linear powerband, 4000-8300 RPM. Not difficult to drive on the highway even slowly with the 4.88 gears, just a pain in traffic. But not as much of a pain as my current 79 Subaru which also is NA high compression. 87 EA71S factory racing engine but was missing it's original dual carb intake, so I used a regular 81 single carb intake and made an adapter for a Ford 200 inline 6 carburetor. 320/320 cam, very high compression, and makes around 110-130 HP depending on how it is tuned and what fuel. Which is decently impressive as the regular car version of that engine only made 67 HP from the factory. But with the huge cam, 1200RPM idle, lack of low end torque, and narrow powerband of 5000-6700 RPM, and also early 2wd 5 speed from a 73 maybe, that is non synchronized, a dog gear transmission, it is very difficult to drive in traffic. Although I really don't care about that I have daily driven much worse, like a Chevy truck with a 600HP 454 with huge cam, low gears, and a manual valve body in the transmission. That was much more difficult I think. The Subaru I find kind of fun to daily drive. It has a decent amount of power for its weight, but not so much to be easy to get in trouble, it has nice handling, it can do decently in mud/sand with the mud tires I have on it, even only being FWD, and it has a decent amount of space in it. The engine has just enough racecar like characteristics to be fun to drive but not powerful enough to be a cop magnet. You may see it on the show at some point, I submitted it and you know how much they like Subarus.

@@theodorgiosan2570 dude, that compression and that cam on that Subaru must be an acquired taste do drive it on the street, for sure you needed some practice to make that work right? i love old small cars, and double the original power is fun in any car, the car world has gone insane with the 1000hp builds, but i still drive my 85 toyota with the original 4AGE and 100whp and that thing is a blast, had a M2 for a while and sold it because the 86 is so much more fun in the twisties, always driving it 10/10, the M2 seemed a lot like a videogame and i never felt like i was driving more than a 7/10 of what the car could handle, i think the nicest drivers are light, have linear powerbands and are easy to take to the limit on low speeds, so i love NA small racers.

@@lucasdamask It really isn't all that difficult. Taking off from a stop is easy because of the low first gear and the car only weighing 1800 lbs, even the stock EA Subaru engines love to rev so the gearing is always set up for cruising around 4000 RPM or so on the highway, the only difficult things are stop and go traffic with the Spec stage 4 clutch (4 puck metallic unsprung) and being behind someone who is slowing down and speeding up in certain speed ranges because I have to constantly shift back and forth because I don't want the straight piped exhaust screaming at 5000 RPM the whole time. Cruising it's as quiet as a stock one with a muffler as long as you are under 4100 RPM. Used to run a lot worse because I had to have a tiny air filter that was too restrictive because it was the only thing I could fit under the hood on the Ford carburetor, but recently I made a better one by taking a Subaru Loyale intake hose, plugging the extra ports, clamping it on top of the carburetor, clamping the other end to an exhaust pipe adapter and attaching that to a radial seal air filter for a 2015 Jeep Compass. And it gets cooler air as well because it's taking air from the drivers side of the engine compartment rather than right in front of the radiator. My perspective on driving it might be skewed a bit though as I have driven all sorts of cars with bizarre engines like a 27HP 2 cylinder 2 stroke, a peripheral port rotary, a short stroke 354cid V8 that revs to 10,000 RPM, and a Detroit Diesel 3-53T 2 stroke 3 cylinder turbodiesel. Speaking of diesels and linear powerbands, my friend drives an 82 Oldsmobile Toronado with the 350 diesel engine and it is the most comfortable car with the most linear powerband I have ever seen. Torque is just constant from 1000 RPM to 3600 RPM. Years ago I missed out on buying an 85 Celebrity with the 4.3 V6 diesel which has 6 head bolts per cylinder over the 4 of the 350 V8, and I have been kicking myself for it ever since because I have not seen another for sale since then. Apparently there was a Pontiac 6000 with the same engine and a 5 speed, although I have never even seen a picture of one.
