PSA will sprinkle in some random 7s and 8s in a order just because so if you send all cards that are supposed to be 9s and 10s, you will be sure to get burned on some. That’s why I throw in some cards that are supposed to get 7s and 8s in an order that I want slabbed like rare 90s numbered inserts that don’t go down in value much being lower grade

Love the videos, great job! I agree with your one statement 8-10’s to the naked eye should not show much of a difference. Given a 8 is still mint. Though on the other hand, I don’t think a card should grade an 8 if it shows “light chipping” or “off center” etc. To me, that no longer makes it mint, but many people expect 8’s. And that’s partly PSA’s fault for how they’ve graded cards in the past. Clearly stricter now, but truly gambling with PSA, because who knows how they’re evaluating cards, as their standards have changed.

I'm finding as of recently it more about a lucky submission rather than a single card. I just had a lucky 12 card submission. I got nine 10s on modern brady's. Although the brady rookie market is down I find low pop brady parallels do well because there are so many brady player set collectors. A low pop 10 does well. It's sort of like how oddball gem mint Ryan's would do a decade ago. There are a lot of ryan master set collectors out there & if you get a low pop gem mint oddball set its a big dollar card acquired for cheap.

I wonder if PSA keeps track of serial numbered cards that are graded? For example, If I have a PSA graded card 3/5 and I send it in raw to regrade and one of the graders checks and sees that 3/5 has already been graded PSA 7, I would assume that they would take the regrade fee and just send the card back with the same grade. Maybe I'm being too cynical.....??

Cool video. If you just sent Ohtani cards there would have been a 9 in there. Card grading can be so unpredictable sometimes
@danielbracco9997 Жыл бұрын
A classic PSA order and grading. This exact thing happened to me. Ohtani always gets 10's. None of my older cards (80's and 90's) get 10s. I scratch my head every time I get an order back trying to figure out why certain cards are graded lower than I expect. Question Chris- Do you think SGC is too easy on grading? Is an SGC 10 really a PSA 9? seem to get better grades from SGC but value is much lower. Thanks for the reveal video!!!
@richardbianco9674 Жыл бұрын
From what I've seen no, I fact a sgc 10 I'd rate higher. With psa, the leeway for a 10, especially the older submissions, are more like sgc 9.5s. They are also way more consistent so you know a 10 is a 10 the vast majority of the time ( human error not withstanding).
@ADT2525 Жыл бұрын
@richardbianco9674 so why not bypass that ( human error ) and grade with a company that gives you a ton of information on why it was graded the way it was? I know Chris has way too much money tied up in psa to try a new company with results.
@richardbianco9674 Жыл бұрын
@ADT2525 because there are many releases of cards that an AI or computer grade would be wrong on. Take the Gretzky o pee chee rookie for example. That one could never get a 10 because of how they were cut, a human understands that and takes that into consideration. A machine really wouldn't
@ADT2525 Жыл бұрын
@@richardbianco9674 In my opinion I think PSA would be great for pre 1990's . I think 90's up would be better served with a AI grade. I just don't think you should be able to make a 10 because of a mis-cut. A 10 is a 10 which to me means good centering ,surface etc.
@richardbianco9674 Жыл бұрын
@ADT2525 sgc is still far more consistent for pre 90s. And I mention the Gretzky because they all were wire cut. That isn't a miscut. That was how o pee chee did it that year. While that edge can vary in how rough the edge is, it's never completely clean.

Question that just popped in my head…do you think PSA/other grading companies assess each bulk order as a whole??? For example, with your 55 card order, do they look at it and say “we can only give 25% GEM MINT 10s for this order”? Just play along with my “conspiracy theory” for a moment lol. Is it within the realm of possibility that they have certain quotas for each card, parallel, grade, etc that they have to stay within to maximize profitability? With your 2 A-Rod cards, if they grade one of them a 6, is it because they’ve considered the fact that a customer would consider cracking and re-submitting? I just used the A-Rod cards as an example. As always, thanks for the great content, Chris!

The 93 sp chipper. We know the foil cards are condition sensitive. Congrats on the grade. I’m curious why Chipper gets high grades while Jeter doesn’t have as many (percentage wise) Is it because of the value difference or is it something else ?
@collectorinvestordealer Жыл бұрын
Its probably mainly due to the fact that many more Jeters are sent in. A Jeter in a "7" quality might still be worth sending in, so a lot of people do. While a Chipper in a "7" quality is not, so most people do not.
@EdwardKiss-w5k Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply. It makes sense to me. You’re absolutely right. When I have some time I will research it a little more. How many 9’s and 10’s exist for each player. I would think a lot of cards go back and forth to crossover. Between PSA , SGC and Bgs/Bvg. It seems every time a card changes hands there is always the potential for a crossover. I haven’t looked yet however I’m thinking there are more PSA 9’s of Chipper than Jeter.
