I call it, and "apologies" like it _Nonpologies._ And I don't mean to imply that I came up with it, there's literally a Wikipedia page about it, it also suggests "backhanded apology," or "fauxpology," and they all redirect to "Non-apology apology" which I think is redundant. I imagine the unimaginative and redundant one is seen as the default because the other three are constantly being argued about. So all we have to do is all use *_"Nonpology"_* until it becomes the clear favorite.

My Johnny theory: he's infatuated/obsessed with Joshua and hoped they could have some kind of DL relationship. He got close to Colleen simply to add to the fantasy; either because he wanted to be her (the fame, attention, influence and of course, Joshua), or to get the thrill of being close with her while sneaking around with her husband. Joshua wasn't and still isn't at all interested, Johnny got his feelings hurt, now he wants revenge.
@alysonnance-orr777
@alysonnance-orr777 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Johnny's prime objective was fame, at any cost. He didn't get the attention/fame he wanted from Joshua, so he latched on to the attention that Colleen's victims were garnering in sharing their REAL stories of abuse. He's indeed as vile as Coleen!🤢

@@iliketurtles511 It's also the only reason to focus on his coming out story. Because Josh's response to it ("that's none of my business") is completely appropriate for someone in a position of power over someone younger than them. All Johnny's stories about Josh are like that. Johnny does something kind of inappropriate (coming out to your boss is a big why would you?) and then Josh responds appropriately, but Johnny's not happy with it.

It really does make perfect sense. Now he is out for blood because Josh didn't reciprocate his feelings. It's crap like that that makes me feel so bad for innocent people accused of something they didn't do. Especially if it is something as horrendous as this involving teens & children. How utterly life destroying it can be for the accused if they are indeed innocent.

It’s the same as people in predatory relationships who say stuff like "but they wanted to have sex". A minor might not know what that really means or is not doing this for the appropriate reasons. It’s your job as an adult not to have a relationship with a minor. They can’t psychologically consent to sexual activities. And another related issue is that some people say stuff like "you are very mature for your age". While in some cases, this can be said without any bad implications, in others it might give minors a sense of maturity that they actually don’t have yet. It makes them feel like they could and should partake in "mature decisions/activities" like sex.

I was groomed from the age of 15 to 18 by my best friend in high school's ,mother. The day I turned 18 she messaged me a sexual message and from then on, her and I had a sexual relationship. She was married the whole time and still is to this day to the same guy. It's something that runs so deep in my mind, that I would say she still has her hooks in me. She still messages me from time to time even today. She still has a very strong hold on me. I am not convinced that she didn't do it to other friend's we had in high school too. She made it out like she was ONLY in love with ME. It's scars that I will carry for the rest of my life. It's caused me to have a very unhealthy relationship with sex. I hate myself and want to die sometimes. So to see someone like Colleen ,who was someone I really liked growing up, come out as a groomer, disgusts me to my very core.

You should really tell her husband. It's not fair to him if he doesn't know. Imagine being married and loyal to a cheater for years and years and nobody told you when they knew the whole time. Imagine wasting your entire life on a person who doesn't value you at all. Especially a weirdo that likes young boys. You should tell him, perhaps even anonymously. Maybe she'll know it was you if she truly wasn't messing around with other people, but maybe not. Either way, it's the morally just thing to do. Then, cut off contact if you are worried about being dragged into the fallout. Become unreachable to them if you want. However you decide to go about it, I think that it's extremely important that you let the husband know. You're not a kid anymore, and you know this man is being taken advantage of by a disloyal weirdo. He has the right to know who he really married...

@EmpressRetard they shouldn't have to be the one carrying this burden. It is easy for anyone who isn't in the situation or was traumatized to say what's correct morally. What they need is to take care of themselves first. It's not as easy to revisit let alone confront a trauma until they are comfortable. KZbin is famous across multiple owners for protecting (not ignoring. Protecting, aiding, shielding, platforming) child predators. They know. The kids that spend 14 hours a day watching watching groomer shit from onision to elsagate animations, and that generates revenue for youtube. That is the most neutral reason I can think of as to why they have protected and platformed (and continue to platform) so many predators with not just allegations but (legally still alleged in many cases but like. Come on) documented media of their abuses towards children. Parents who teach with shame and guilt, especially around things like sex (if a kid doesn’t know their own body and boundaries and what sex even is, it’s a lot easier for a predator to gain access to all of those things) are not going to be trusted by their kids when horrible things happen to or are happening to them. Unfortunately many parents like to make a big stink about protecting their kids from grooming and predation, while they ignore how it works, where it starts, and why it works. Others have spoken about this in the past as well, from Colleen’s era of KZbin predators, how the content these adults made left them vulnerable to predation in their real lives; and irl most csa occurs between family members or trusted adults of the family; adults the child knows. The least evil reason youtube could be protecting child predators is the cold banality of number go up. it goes downhill from there.

As someone who's a generation older than most people here, i will never understand this "took accountability" business. What does that even mean to people these days, aside from "apologizing profusely and with a total lack of defensiveness"? I would have still been as much on his side if his reaction was along the lines of "I never did a thing to you that was inappropriate, and screw you for slandering me". Forgot to add: though I do find his ability to remain so nondefensive admirable in a way, he also seems to have completely misconstrued what Johnny was accusing him of, and never actually addressed any suggestion of grooming, per se. Which accusations are far far worse, and likely far more difficult to remain calm about, than accusations of being a lousy mentor.

@@BlueCyann I believe "taking accountability" involves at the very least questioning your own behaviour and admitting when you've fucked up. Educate them about healthy sexuality, personal autonomy, boundaries and consent. If you teach a kid that all sex is evil, including consensual sex, and yo don’t tell them what it is or what to watch out for, but shame and guilt them for either natural self exploration, or god forbid being preyed on by a peer or *_adult,_* they are going to be an optimal target for predators. Kids do not know everything you know or think you know. They’re not secretly imbued with your morals. They do not know what sex is. Young children do not know what sex is, if they do, something has potentially gone very very wrong, and you need to take care of them and help them and believe them. Your child’s bodily autonomy and individual self experiences should not be a problem for you. Worry about your kids being attracted to literal animals and children of developmentally different ages, or wanting their bodies to stop existing instead of being some sort of shape you think you didn’t sign up for when you hopefully chose to create a human being. A child raised to think they are at fault for adult predators when that is never their fault and children _cannot_ cause predatory relationships, and that safe, consensual sex between people of age in healthy power dynamics is as disturbing and evil as the adult that wants to consume their underage body, is being left out in the dark by their families. They do not deserve it. I don’t care what you think you’re doing or what happened to you or what any organization or entity says. Bring your child the fuck inside.

The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that Johnnys obsession with Joshua was a result of him misinterpreting the reason why Josh gave him his number… I think John perceived that as a romantic or flirty gesture of some sort, and developed a romantic interest in Joshua. He then came out to him and was disappointed at Joshua’s reaction… and then once Josh “ghosted him” he started having a vendetta. He does come off as a scorned lover, like so many have pointed out. He’s even randomly mentioned how attractive Joshua is.. John is butthurt Joshua didn’t want him romantically… that’s my theory anyway. The only thing you missed is when Adam first came out with that original video exposing Colleen, in which he was still only 17, nobody believed him. He got so much hate from the internet cuz this was one of the first few reallyy bad things ever really said about Colleen and her massive fan base didn’t want to believe the truth. Colleen responded with her first nonpology video, “addressing everything” where she basically just excused her behavior, downplayed the entire situation and manipulated her audience into believing she would never be inappropriate with fans and that she’s just quirky and weird and everything gets misinterpreted. All while behind the scenes Colleen would purposefully have other fans that she’d also groomed send Adam hate and would talk shit about him in the group chats relentlessly to try to shut him up and turn the narrative in her favor. The really sad thing is this kind of behavior didn’t start when Adam made the video, didn’t start when the public began to turn on Colleen, didn’t even start when she was going through her divorce. Colleen has ALWAYS been mean and nasty and vile and will talk shit about anyone and everyone she’s ever met because she truly believes she’s above everyone. She has literally said, ON TV, that she would say mean and nasty things that she actually believed as Miranda because she could get away with it. There’s a reason Shane Dawson is one of the few other KZbinrs that still likes her, he even outed her as basically the biggest shit talker he’s ever met and said that all they do is say mean shit about other people once they’re together. She really is just a terrible, awful fucking human being.

What really broke my heart was when she apologized to Adam for the trauma she caused, aka her pictures being sent without her consent, and how Adam was so fast in shutting that down and saying that it's not her fault. Because it isn't, and no matter what, she shouldn't have to feel like it is. In this specific situation, Trisha is a victim on her own, and we shouldn't treat her like the villain she has been in other situations.

I watched channels like miranda rise and thought it was cool that fellow dorks making goofy comedy videos at home had an audience. I left yt for a doctorate in neuroscience in 2007 and would occasionally make content in the 2010s. The environment was awful. So negative. Now, in 2023, I'm binging these channels that do deep dives on some of the creators from the early days who I saw rise but later turned out to be just terrible people and on creators from the 2010s who made hate content. It's not just the damage these individuals caused to other individuals but a whole toxicity that became rampant because of just not good people. A generation that grew up or matured during this reign of toxicity and predatory behavior. But most of them came out ok. Well once the frontal lobes kick in in adulthood they will be. It's just really fascinating to me. If you are a genuinely good person, it will come out. If you are amoral, it will come out. All of these platform idols - the truth comes out. The same cannot be said for larger celebrities. It's just interesting. By the way, Cruel World, I love the long videos and greatly appreciate the work you put in. My father is someone who often offends mentally disabled people and it hurts me so much,i just can’t believe how he thinks he’s a good person! Most people invalidate me because I was 17 when it started, over the legal age of consent where I am, appeared to love him and was just stupid to stay with him for 5 years, let him isolate me and accumulate debt because of him. It's been almost 2 years since I left and I'm the most me I've been in years but still have a long way to go in recovering from it.

I'm actually incredibly worried for Colleen's child... like, what home environment did SHE experience to normalize all this "odd" behavior? We know at least some of her relatives (definitely her siblings) think that her antics & career constitute "acceptable" behavior. Everyone involved KNOWS her audience is comprised of mainly very young children and teens - yet they're completely fine with the abundance of sexual content... the incestuous innuendos! I wonder if she actually experienced an "uncle" (or some other relative/family friend) as described in her skits... I hope she doesn't expose her own child to any of that. Ugh, it's beyond infuriating how many other kids she's exposed to that shit, many of whom now may be desensitized to pedophilic behaviors. She should be prosecuted as one and be registered as a sex offender for her own interactions with fans - let alone all those she's put in danger by normalizing it. She's just an all around disgusting individual. A true bigot with no humility and absolutely no respect for anyone else. Her brother should be required to register as an offender as well, despite his disability, considering he understood his actions were wrong and proceeded anyway. A disability is not an excuse, in fact it makes me wonder if he too may have been a victim of abuse since those with disabilities are often targets... if so, did Collen know and integrate THAT into Miranda too (like she did the tantrums? - she seems like enough of a sociopath to do something like that).

Just a little thing: I've noticed that a lot of people use the term "parasocial relationship" to describe exploitative dynamics between influencers and their fans, and while it's not wrong per se, it's a bit misleading. Parasocial relationships aren't a bad thing. They're a totally normal part of the human experience. EVERYONE develops parasocial relationships, be it with traditional celebrities, online content creators, or fictional characters. That's fine, and even desirable in many cases, because those one-sided relationships can be very positive and inspiring and help us become more empathetic towards other people, especially people who aren't like us. Parasocial relationships only become problematic when boundaries are not being upheld by at least one side. Fans can become pushy, entitled, overprotective, aggressive or resentful, leading to harassment, bullying, and even stalking behavior direct towards their idol, people in said idol's personal life, or detractors like critics or perceived "rivals". And of course, there are those celebrities, influencers, artists and content creators who decide to use the sway they have over their fans for their own personal and/or financial gain (which is what Colleen did). There really needs to be a specific term to describe that last dynamic. I've seen "parasocial grooming" used in cases like the Colleen Ballinger, BoyInABand and Lily Orchard situations, but that one only covers the personal angle, not the scams and predatory advertising that are rampant among influencers.

Of all the kid friendly online spaces, and I recognise KZbin is actively managing the content in the kids app (to some degree) - the KZbin kids app is absolute smut. It’s low effort, sometimes weird, algorithm challenges for the creators, and kids eat it up. But as a parent there’s no educational value. I would rather just put some scooby doo or paw patrol clips on normal KZbin while I keep an eye on my child.

Colleen, her family and the people around her are freaking weird omg. I remember watching her first birth video a few years ago and felt uncomfortable with the way they talked to each other and young members of the family. No filter or boundaries whatsoever. But I also thought I might be too sensitive here because I am just an extremely private person even though it is much more normal in my culture to share a lot with family than it is in the US. But looking at what has come out about Colleen and the people around her, I feel justified in my gut feeling tbh. If I were authorities, I would look into them fr.

I know this is off-topic, and I've been made fun of this before, but grooming is a process that can be done completely online as well. It's usually done in mmorpgs and mass multiplayer games to young children. From my personal experience, I was convinced to send my groomer photos of myself, and the "s*x" involved online roleplay and phone calls educating me on masturbation techniques. This happened for 3 years. I thought we were in love... and he constantly promised to visit me someday. But I now realize just how messed up my past was. I was 12 at the time, and he was 23.
