Hi. Once you've sewn the tape onto the armhole and turned it to the wrong side, try hand stitching the binding to the fabric to get a neater finish and the hand stitching will move with the stretch. The length of the bias tape is determined by the armhole size plus 2.5cm's.
@colleenglea12 жыл бұрын
The trimming they ask is to simply remove bulk from the seam. I'd be looking to trim away about half of the seam. Hope that helps.

The bias binding can be of different widths (it's all about personal choice and your sewing project) but the length of the binding will be the measurement of the armhole. Hope that answers your question.

Cut on the bias means cut on the stretchy part of the fabric, usually on the diagonal, around 45 degrees. I'll arrange to film a tutorial adding bias binding to a V neck shortly. Thanks.

Hello friends! You have no idea how much I help watch your videos, but you know I do not speak English and of course, sometimes I have no doubt. That bias that normally put the measure as wide armhole?. I appreciate your response.
@cbarratt212 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this video, it's just what I needed! If you have time to answer, my pattern asks me to cut an armhole facing from my fabric and then press it after folding it along a roll line. Then it says, "Pin facing to armhole edge. Stich. Trim. UNDERSTITCH facing." I didn't notice you trimming anything, so I'm just wondering how much they expect me to trim and what the purpose is for this trimming. Perhaps I could skip the trimming? The rest of it I get, thanks to your videos!

Very helpful tutorial. Would understitching the bias binding, e.g., as is done for facings, before the last step help everything to lay flat and avoid any chance of the binding showing on the right side of the garment? Hope I've worded this to make sense. Many thanks.

That may be because the bias binding may not be cut on the true bias or it may have stretched too much as it was sewn.

Great video! Thank you for explaining so clearly! I removed the sleeves from my wedding dress (a tulle appliqued material). A want to re-bind just the bottom part of the armhole, as the top half is appliqued and won't require binding. How should I sew the beginning and end of the binding on? Miter the angles or just fold a straight end?

Thank you for this informative video. I have a lightweight denim shirt on which I have removed the sleeves in order to make it sleeveless. There’s two rows of decorative top stitching that were previously holding the seams onto the bust side. I’m lazy. Is surging the seam allowance and re-stitching over the decorative top stitching an acceptable way to finish off a sleeveless garment? Also when you sewed your bias tape, is it important to sew it straight down or would it have been better to sew it on the bias?
@colleenglea4 жыл бұрын
Hello Mary it is possible to do it that way, I would keep the decorative stitching, and turn the raw edge in on itself and hand sew using a slip stitch. Second question sew straight down.
@maryhansen70214 жыл бұрын
Colleen G Lea - FSBTV Thanks for your reply! After I took the sleeve off I discovered how gigantic the arm hole was and so I will have to take in The side seams and use a smaller piece of bias tape to pull everything in a little... or would you recommend a very thin piece of grosgrain or a strip of fabric cut on the straight of grain to keep it from stretching?
