Mum of twins here. They’re 10 now but I remember those early days so well. I have 3 children so I know what a singleton is like too. I can assure you it doesn’t feel like double the work. It’s really only like 50% more work. Yes you’re feeding two babies but you’re up feeding one anyway. You don’t need any special products for twins I promise. There’s only one thing I’d recommend and that’s a large feeding pillow for tandem feeding. If you can feed them at the same time, whether that’s bottle or breast you’ll give yourself a little bit of extra time between feeds. You can do this. The fact you care so much about getting right is a sure sign you’re gonna to be a wonderful mum of 3.

@shelleybreckon3 жыл бұрын
Oh I have a solution for that! I put a bouncer on each side of me on the couch. As soon as one stopped feeding I would pop them in the bouncer while the other was feeding still. Then I’d pop the other one in the bouncer and lift each bouncer onto the floor. I only had to do that for a few weeks then I worked out how to stand up while holding one of them up on each shoulder in a burping position.

Erik & Colleen’s MISCOMMUNICATION recap: Erik: bought extra dessert supplies for Colleen’s dessert idea because he thought it would be nice to support her idea. He also provided her with validation that it was a great idea even though he did not want to eat any of the dessert. Colleen: Had a great dessert idea that her husband seemed excited for too due to the validation and extra supplies he purchased for it. She was under the impression he wanted some due to his perceived enthusiasm for the idea even though he did not state that he wanted some. Erik: since he did not want any he became triggered by the mess of the dessert items being out. Due to him not stating that he wanted dessert, he perceived the items being out as another mess that Colleen left. Colleen: despite being usually messy, Colleen assumed Erik’s enthusiasm meant he wanted some dessert too so she left the ingredients out assuming he would want to use them for his own dessert plate. Overall issue: just a large miscommunication due to Colleen misinterpreting Erik’s enthusiasm and support for the dessert as him wanting some, as well as Erik not conveying in the first place that he didn’t want any dessert even though he would move heaven and earth to provide Colleen and her twins with dessert ingredients lol. Lol. You guys are the best and it’s just a miscommunication 💕💕💕💕

My twins are now 18 just graduated high school and are best friends. Trust me I didn’t feel like I was Lucky back then for getting blessed with two babies because when you are in the thick of it is freaking hard. But now I look back and realize how lucky and how blessed I am to be a twin mama! You will get through all of it. Yes you will cry yes it’s incredibly hard but it’s all worth it in the end. This argument went for so long because both sides feel misunderstood. It’s not about the strawberries or leaving the mess out. He’s upset because he feels she doesn’t know him better, and assumed based on something he didn’t say. She read between the lines and interpreted his statements to be alluding to want some dessert instead of him asking directly. She thought she was being considerate, but he thought she was being inconsiderate by leaving it out. I think he wants her to clean up more (since he does most the cleaning) and having a normal human moment, and probably being tired, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back and caused an argument. She’s mad because he doesn’t believe her intentions and thinks she’s lying. So the undercurrents are much more serious than strawberries left out. That’s why she would not drop it. She wanted him to acknowledge her consideration of him and believe her that she did it because she was trying to be nice to him. And then she was surprised when he was upset. This is all normal. And healthy. I hope they communicated their true needs and resolved it, or decided to just drop it, and try to communicate better next time.

KZbinr Jordan Paige has a “twins must-haves” video of recommended twin products and a twins pregnancy q&a you might find helpful, in her must-haves video she is even breastfeeding both babies at the same time which seems miraculous but shows it is possible for some. Also the Chatwins on youtube have many day-in-the-life videos showing how they feed or bathe their triplets at the same time and so on. I would totally be intimidated as well but nice to know there are other mom’s of multiples out there. I am a twin, and my brothers are twins. 2 sets of twins, 7 years apart. My mom didn't breastfeed any of us and we all turned out fine lol. My sister and I are obviously close and we have the same friends but we do argue and it's normal. My brothers do not get along at all, basically two different people; but that's normal too. My mom also had two c-sections and we were all born early because of health issues.

My grandma had three sets of twins & had the first two sets very close together in her early twenties. She was so scared and nervous on how to take care of four boys at once that she had to take my grandpa on a week vacation like a month after having them. She took the time to calm down and think things over and came back and was a fantastic mother and grandmother. It's okay to be scared and nervous. i’m a twin and the best advice is to take all the help you can get, i know it might seem like a lot but it’s gonna be hard, but you’ll get through it if you have people even your parents helping you, and maybe a few hours a week someone can watch flynn so he is still having fun!! the biggest thing for the flynn part is to include him in helping with the babies- he then won’t feel excluded, but he also will feel like an awesome big brother and a big help!

I'm not going to sugar coat it, it is rough at the start. My advice is get as much help as you can. Someone to clean your house, someone to look after Flynn, anything that makes life easier for you, you should do! You are lucky you seem to have an amazing support system around you to help. Products specifically for twins, mainly places to put them that are safe, boppy loungers, swings, bouncers. You need them in most rooms so there is a safe place to set them down. Good luck! Twin mama here. I was very overwhelmed with idea of raising 2 babies. I spent my whole pregnancy sick, or in pain, or both. I was petrified of the C Section. I ended up on modified bedrest for 4 weeks at the end. I will say that I have anxiety, and I always make things out to be worse than they actually are, which is exactly what happened. The C Section wasn’t nearly as bad as I had made it out to be in my head. Recovery was rough, but manageable, and I was too exhausted to really care anyway. My husband and I tag teamed the nights, I ended up formula feeding due to no milk production, and by a month in we had a routine down that we could do at 3am without even speaking to each other. “Like Clockwork” was our mantra. I had ZERO experience being a parent, I really had no idea how hard it was going to be, but I wouldn’t give up having twins for anything in the world. You’ve got this! You will find ways to make everything work for you! Pack N Plays became my most valuable item for nights, and baby gates everywhere when they became mobile. I would pen them into a circle with toys when I needed to get things done. TONS of burp cloths, and onesies (twins are some serious laundry producers) Make sure you celebrate every moment and milestone, and take lots of pictures because I was too exhausted to remember much, so I’m glad I have those to look back on. I’m rooting for you!

From one twin momma to another- having a good partner and strong communication are SO important. Letting them know when you need some me time and being able to step away without feeling that mom guilt. Tag teaming overnight, I was strictly pumping so we gave bottles and that did help because my husband could feed one while I fed one and this helped us to both get a little more sleep. You and Eric are going to be great at this, and Flynn is going to be such a cool big brother to have! 💕

great reply...colleen needs to realize that the first year or two is just a Blip on the Radar of Life. sure it will be a full time job for several months but in the grand scheme of things it will be the last time that she does this and the feeding only lasts a few months as babies start on solids before they are a year and the breast feeding then is not as demanding as the first few months. they get easier as they get older and hearing your story is really nice.

I know that I was definitely overwhelmed when I girls found out that I was having twins. The first thing I thought about was, "how the hell am I going to breastfeed both of the girls at the same time?" I was 100 lbs. With a very short torso, so I couldn't even drink a sip of water without running out of breath. I had severe pre-eclampsia and renal failure. But you know what? Everything turned out just fine. I had a c section at 35 weeks, my girls were in the nicu for 2 weeks, and the hospital was gracious enough to let me borrow their hospital grade breastfeed pump to take home and use as long as I needed. My advice to you is this, accept help! Help from nurses in the hospital, your husband, your parents, your in laws, friends. I made that mistake of not accepting help, and it made things so much more difficult. My main issue was that I became super protective of my girls. I didn't want anyone to feed or bathe, or dress, or anything else. I felt the same way after my oldest was born too. So please, don't make the same mistake I did. Ask and accept help when whenever you need it. My girls will be 5 next month and are doing great, and so am I. Also, if you do decide to breastfeed both at the same time, although it seems overwhelming now, there will a lactation consultant at the hospital that will guide you through the process. You can do this mama! You got this🥰I hope this helps 🙏 💕

I love kids and I want to be able to bond with my little niece and play with her and hang out and always offer to help her but she always kindly says no. She hasn’t even left the baby alone with her husband not even one day. I don’t ask because it’s 100% not my business but I wonder if he’s gotten a real chance to bond with the baby. Since you were protective as well, do you have recommendations on what I could do? I’m guessing I’ll just have to wait until the baby is like 30 to be able to bond with her 😂

@@n4musica hey sweetie! Well I would try to spend time with baby with mom around. Show her that you are good with the baby, maybe even ask if you can help with a feeding if the bay is bottle fed. The more that she sees how good you are with the baby, the more she will start to trust you. Because ultimately, we as mothers want to know that our children will be completely safe around someone else. And if she won't let you help with the baby, then maybe ask if you can help around the house. Maybe witb the dishes or laundry. Or even bring her favorite coffee or snack. The more love and consideration that you show to her, the more she will eventually start to trust you with her baby. It will make her feel good, seen, and appreciated during a time wher she might feel very isolated and vulnerable. I hope this helps 🙏 💕

Twin mama here! 🙌🏻 to be quite honest I don’t remember a whole lot of the first year because it was so chaotic 🤣 work together. Let your family help. Neither of you will sleep. 🤦🏼♀️ My breast pump was my best friend! We had to supplement with formula also because ours were born super preemie so we also loved the Baby Brezza for late night feedings. Honestly, the biggest thing that will be your saving grace is your family. We don’t have any family living within 3 hours of us and have had virtually no help so it’s been really difficult for us. My biggest piece of advice is to keep them both on the same schedule. If one eats, feed the other if they’re hungry or not!

Twin mom here!! Alllllll of those thoughts are so real. I actually had to mourn when I found out I was having twins, because I knew that it was not going to be like a singleton. It was going to be so much harder. The only twin specific things you’ll need are probably a twin breast friend pillow and a twin z pillow. I bought both and kept the twin z. And obviously a double/triple stroller. I never wore both of my twins at the same time, I always had help so two separate carriers made the most sense. If you can, plan for two extra people to be with you for the first few weeks, if not months. One person to watch Flynn and one person to help you with the twins. ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. I hardly remember anything that happened the first three months… I was so exhausted. Anticipate that it will take a while to figure out what works best to feed your babies. For me it was pumping and then bottle feeding. HAVE A STRICT SCHEDULE. I’m not sure how strict your schedule/routine was with Flynn, but a schedule saved our lives. Every three hours we would wake up both babies, feed them, change them, put them back down, and then I would pump for the next feeding. If one twin woke up to eat before their sibling, we would also wake up the sibling. You can’t let one eat without the other, then you start having one twin awake all the time and you’ll never get a break! Find your local moms of multiples group and see if they are having in person/virtual meet ups. Find a twin mom Facebook group! Good luck! You’re going to do amazing, you have the perfect demeanor for this and are already a brilliant parent.

Colleen I am a twin Mom and I had a little one already before I had my twins. The coolest thing is watching how they are growing up to be each others best friend. First of all YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!! Now please understand this is how it went for me, I am not saying it's the same for everyone. I had my twins at 37 weeks. I had gone into labour at 35 weeks and was put on bedrest for two weeks. They wanted the babies to get to at least 37 weeks. I went into labour naturally and had both babies naturally. The first was a regular delivery the second one was a frank breech but the first made the room for delivery. As far as feeding them, ask the lactation nurse to teach you to feed using the football hold. This way that are bring fed at the same time and you don't feel like you are feeding forever. Now instead of me going on and on, please feel free to reach out and I will try and help anyways I can.

My boyfriend is an identical twin. While I personally can't speak on behalf of having twins myself, my boyfriend's mom always said that she would have breakdowns and panic attacks all the time. She said that while it was overwhelming, she believed that God wouldn't give her twins if she couldn't handle it. Whether it is a deity or the universe, just know that you are strong and can handle it. She also recommends all twin moms ask for help. You are not a failure because you need someone to watch your babies for a couple hours while you take care of yourself. This advice comes from my boyfriend as an identical twin, but make sure you treat each baby as a unique individual.
