Oh god, I am very sorry about this college's decision, I am applying this year and I am so nervous. But you must know that it WILL BE OKAY, its a very shitty process that no one should go through, but keep in mind that you will be, where you were meant to be, take every rejection as a re-direction, and always stay confident about you and your goals, I wish you the best. ( I am also applying to NYU, hope one day we meet each other) ;)

You should have applied to UW Madison. It’s ranked very very high. They call it the Ivy reject school but on some ranking systems it ranks #1. They accept a lot of international students. Online it shows they accept 50% but it’s lower. 60,000 applicants and about 8000 got in. My daughter got into Cornell but still chose Madison. She likes their program better

To anyone who wants some surefire advice: colleges love a good story, and they love passion. Put a lot of effort into your essays, and show that you are really passionate about the thing you want to major in. They really want students that know what they want and have done related activities beforehand. Colleges don't want to spend effort or money on students who switch majors or might drop out--so prove to them that you're committed to their school and the program you're applying for. Yeah, you gotta kind of suck up to the college a bit, but that's the price you have to pay. That's what I did, and I got into 8/10 schools that I applied to as a Mechanical Engineering major with an interest in space science (the 2 rejections being from Harvard and MIT). Also, DON'T SPREAD YOURSELF TOO THIN. Apply to the schools you know you want to go to, plus a few safeties, but don't tack on random Ivy Leagues that you don't actually want to go to. It'll just be wasted effort. Same thing with extracurriculars: colleges like focus, so doing 3 things each for 3+ years is better than doing 10 things and quitting after 6 months.

I don't understand why are you saying that you will wait a year to reapply. Most of those schools on your list have higher acceptance rates for Spring Start application so you should definitely not wait till next year, you should apply right away for Spring. Now I might be wrong because maybe some schools say that if you applied, you may not apply again, but I think they prefer more applications than less. I would definitely apply at a lower level though, I think you applied to reach schools only. If you apply for Spring, try to shoot a little lower in Match. Keep this in mind, if you apply test-optional then the admissions board will be REQUIRED to see something outstanding in the other parts of your application. Test optional is only for people that are extreme in their ECs. When they see a test optional application, they compare it with an application with a 1550 SAT and great ECs and compare it with yours with only great ECs. Which will they allow? There are thousands of incredible applicants with great ECs and SAT scores that DON'T get accepted. TLDR As an international student I suggest you reapply for Spring with your 1350 to lower Match schools that are need blind.
@nadsbennani2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I would be open to any blind schools within my sat range. Also I think for the spring application round they don't offer as much financial aid which is even more competitive. I'll reapply with a higher sat this time.

@@nadsbennani Don't ever listen to anyone saying your 1350 score is not good enough because that's the opposite! A 1350 SAT is the cut off for most Asian male students in the US for Ivies. If u had submitted your 1350 SAT score, you would have gotten in! Most people get into those top colleges with at least 1100 SAT. It's not your fault u didn't get in, those top colleges and Ivies get jealous of high achieving low-income students and they use rejection as a way to make u feel bad when they're letting in rich students with low stats. I got rejected from every college that I applied to with a 4.60 GPA and other higher stats because I am from a low income family in the US. Also, race plays a major role here, if you are white with low GPA, you get in, if you are a different race with high GPA, you don't get in and then those colleges would lie about it saying that they let students from minority groups get in with lower GPA claiming affirmative action. Affirmative action is actually for the whites; let's truth be told!
