@18:00 The player that excessively celebrated was on the loosing team. They scored a touchdown and had a chance to tie the game by getting the extra point (which kickers make 90+% of the time because they are so close) but because he got the penalty it moved the kick back 15 yards, making it a much harder kick to make. The kicker missed and they lost by a point.

You got that last clip backwards. The piss mine lost the game by backing up what should’ve been an easy extra point. That last one is extra fun because Ole Miss and Miss State are HUGE rivals. Absolutely hate each other so that’s always a passionate game, high tension. So for it to end on a goofy penalty and a missed XP is one of those legendary rivalry stories that’ll be told for a long time. As an added bonus, both coaches were fired after that game. At least one of them was probably getting sacked anyway, but one could argue the piss’n’miss lead to both of them getting fired

Love the content 2:05 A Buckeye is a kind of nut that comes from the Buckeye tree, the official state tree of Ohio 6:15 In college, a player is down whenever a part of their body other than the foot or hand touches the ground. In the NFL, the player needs to be 'down by contact', meaning a player on the other team needs to force them down or touch them while a body part other than foot or hand is touching the ground 7:20 Intentionally taking off the shoe, helmet, etc. of an opposing player is against the rules and Michigan received a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on that play. 12:14 A "muffed punt" is when the punt returner drops the ball when receiving it. That makes it a 'live ball', and whichever team picks it up gets possession. 18:13 Ole Miss (the white team) was down 7 and scored a TD to be DOWN only 1 with the extra point still to be kicked. The excessive celebration made their extra point (normally a 19-yard attempt) 15 yards longer, and he missed the kick which would have tied the game.

@16:40: I love finding and watching nostalgic sports games. I remember finding a Rugby League Challenge Cup final from the late '60s. It was pouring rain and one team scored a try under the sticks with no time left putting them just one point back. The conversion wins it for them. He was about 12 yards back, lined up with one of the posts, and completely hacked it wide! My heart fell into my shorts for that guy.

The bell at the end of the Kansas vs. Texas Tech game wasn't going into a Metalica song (although it does sound like it). Right near the stadium is a hill and at the top of the hill is a bell tower, which you can see from inside the stadium. The bell is sounded in celebration and so that is what you heard. Also a fun fact the Kansas mascot is a Jayhawk and so the students are known as Jayhawks. There is a rule among the students that in order to really "officially" be known as a Jayhawk, you have to make out with a willing partner under the bell tower. Or that is something that my Dad and friends made up in order to get coeds to kiss them. Apparently it worked, often.

Or possibly "Hell's Bells" by AC/DC, that's another popular song played at games. Also, the Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State game where the guy acted like he was peeing like a dog and got penalized... Mississippi State's mascot is the Bulldog so he was taunting the crowd and opposing team by "peeing" on their goal/name painted on the pitch. Those two teams are a big rivalry and play the "Egg Bowl" (the trophy looks like a big golden egg) every year, which is the game being played there. In the last seconds, Ole Miss was able to score to get 20 points to MSU's 21 and the extra point kick would have tied it right at the game end, putting the game into overtime. But the penalty pushed the kick back 15 yards more and the kicker missed it, resulting in MSU winning the game. So basically, that guy doing that cost them the game (and the rivalry bragging rights for the year).

Muffing a punt is when a punt returner tries to catch a punt but drops it, making it a live ball that can be recovered by the kicking team. It can be a huge momentum shift if a team has to punt it from say their own 30 but get the ball back on their opponent's 30 due to one mistake by the return team. Also to note: if no one on the punt return team touches the ball, it's marked down at either A) where the ball comes to a complete stop, B) where a player of the punting team grabs it (usually to prevent the ball from bouncing in a way that helps their opponent), C) where the ball goes out of bounds, either on the ground or in the air (the estimated spot where the ball crossed the out-of-bounds line rather than where it hits out-of-bounds), or D) when it touches in the end zone or goes out of bounds anywhere beyond the goal line making a touchback, giving the team coming out on offense the ball at the 20. That's different than kickoffs where the ball is live after it has gone ten yards, hence the reason teams try an onside kick when they are losing a close game late or sometimes to cheekily surprise their opponent in an attempt to effectively keep possession of the ball and have another drive on offense without having to stop their opponent's offense.

Some states have big state supported universities with both bearing the states name. You have Michigan and Michigan State, Oregon and Oregon State, Florida and Florida State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and others. So in a game, you have the University of Florida vs Florida State University, but we only say Florida vs Florida State. This is not in every state, and we call these intrastate rivalry or a cross state rival, and some are regional rivals like a neighboring state rival. You can also have the University of Central Florida, and the University of South Florida, but we would only say Central Florida vs South Florida. Different schools within a state can all share the states name.

One of the biggest difference between college football and nfl football is that in college players can be down without being touched. If a player were running and trips and falls that’s considered “self tacklization.” In the nfl unless someone touches you, if the ball carrier falls they can get back up and keep going.

A few liveblog-like thoughts (other comments have probably mentioned most/all of these already lol): --Indeed, accidental contact with an official during a play is not penalized. If the contact is clearly intentional or is made between plays, the result is almost always an ejection and a 15 yard penalty. --The one with the punter's knee being down is a rule that exists in the college game but not in the NFL. In college, if the ball carrier touches the ground with anything other than their feet or hands, the play is dead, even if nobody else touched them. In the NFL, the ball carrier must specifically be "down by contact", that is, they must be down as a result of contact with another player or touched by another player while down. A few rookies in the NFL have forgotten this difference and many laughs have been had at those guys' expense. --There is indeed a play clock. If Dobbins were to try to run the next play without his shoe, he'd be called for an equipment violation and his team would be charged a timeout. --A "muffed punt" is much less risque than it sounds, lol. It merely refers to the punt returner dropping the ball (or, more humorously, having the ball bounce off them) when trying to catch it. ---As for the Metallica mention: the song is almost certainly AC/DC's "Hell's Bells". Very popular out here (probably thanks to Trevor Hoffman, a famous baseball relief pitcher, who would have it play whenever he entered the game).- *EDIT:* Another comment has informed me that the bell is actually just a bell -- from a bell tower on campus. --As others have said, in the last clip, the celebration in question was seemingly meant to taunt the Mississippi State team (whose mascot is the bulldog, and the two schools have a longstanding and intense rivalry). Moore's score pulled his team within one, but his taunt pushed the extra point back, and the extra distance contributed to the miss, so yes, he was on the losing side.

The problem with the "half-ass" punt wasn't that it was a soft kick, it was his aim. A pooch kick is done when the team is a little too far out to try for a field goal or just go for it (because it'll leave the other team with too good of field position), but they're too close to kick a normal punt. So he's trying to just place his kick close to the end zone (usually a corner to pin the runner in), because if he kicks it into the end zone, it's gonna come back to the 25 (or 20 if it's old game footage). I hope you all can go to a live game when they start having spectators again.

Ohio State "Buckeyes" - The Buckeye tree is native to Ohio (so an uncommon tree), school chose it as a symbol because it is something unique to their State. [No great, deep meaning. Just something unique to their area of the country.] The tree produces a nut that is dark brown and round: (similar to a deer/Buck's eyeball, dark brown and relatively the same shape and size) Florida is warm and humid, so oranges grow well in the state (number 1 state for oranges), so the Bowl Game held in Florida is the "Orange Bowl." - there is nothing special about oranges except that they are easy to associate with Florida. (it doesn't have to be something vital, just something related to the state.) Of course the teams choose mascots to sound cool that have something to do with the state: Florida has the Gators (alligators), the Seminoles (native American group in the area), Miami Dolphins (obviously the ocean + Florida), the Florida Panthers (Florida has a small population of wild panthers in the isolated areas of the state), the Tamp Bay Buccaneers (Pirates that used to escape to Florida on their gold runs in the area), etc. Not a deep meaning, just something that can easily be associated with that state.

The "what not to do" video looked like a Miami Hurricanes highlight film. I think it was the 1991 Cotton Bowl game where they got 16 penalties for 202 yards while demolishing Texas that really brought it down. It was a major televised event watched by millions and they basically tore the place apart from the opening kickoff.

Can someone explain to me the point of the clip where they untied that guys shoe and took it off? Were they just being weird and messing around or was there an actual thing they were trying to do? I have never seen something like that before.

A buckeye is a type of inedible nut, like a large acorn, that looks like the eye of a deer. People from Ohio call it a useless nut.

A muffed punt occurs when there is an "uncontrolled touch" of the football by a player on the returning team after it is punted. This can occur when: The kicking team interferes with the other team's right to catch the punt A player on the kicking team is struck unaware by the football running down-field to cover the punt. A player attempts to return the ball, makes contact with it but cannot retain the ball in his hands and it comes loose

The punt w the knee down is because its college. U dont need to be touched by the defense in NCAA. Once u fall down even if tripping on your own feet u are down. In NFL a defender must touch the player while their knee is down or tackle them.
